This song is unbelievable. From the Beatlesque intro to the last notes, this song is an indie masterpiece. I have listened to it probably three or four dozen times since it's been posted. Thank you Daniel for being one of the best contemporary songwriters.
I heard this song on WKNC a week ago and I can't stop thinking about it. ".. If I had a chance to see the friends I have love and lost, and begged for their return, I'd dig until I bleed, I'd drink until I rot. I know that's wrong..." Well done!
Pure fucking magic. I've been a fan of GB for years, and his guitar work has always influenced my style/music I love. Hearing his solo music just makes me appreciate it more. Cheers to you Daniel.
Also anybody who digs the strumming in the bridge part should check out Mac Demarco's band Makeout Videotape its full of those strummy riffs with modal ideals. Just saying.
Not to gush... But I hope Daniel comes back someday soon. His solo music has always been a massive influence me since I discovered him over a decade ago. Meeting him for his first solo show (Neumos, Seattle) is a moment I'll never forget. No one has come close to providing the same feel with music like him. I suppose we'll see what happens in the future.
I won't know what to do with myself if this EP doesn't get the attention it's worthy of. Going on almost a decade of having a library of original music out there, Daniel Rossen deserves to become a more prominent name in music. People like Daniel Rossen or Cass McCombs remind me of a meme I saw recently: Rock Musician: 3 chords, 3000 audience members. Jazz Musician: 3000 chords, 3 audience members. That's not to say they have NO ONE listening to them, but this is music that needs to be heard.
It just occurred to me that Daniel's drumming on this song is very evocative of Ringo's style. Particularly in his use of the hi-hat, but also in his use of the snare. Yet another facet of Daniel's solo work that I absolutely love :)
Yes gawd, lol I love this guy! the way he flows a song is magic, listening to the curves and edges his mindful melodies intertwine gives me so much life!!!!!!
Daniel, you are great. I love your music. Your music is what builds my last two years.. Thanks for making the time spending with the train extensively more lovely.
If it's Dan you know it's gonna be good. I really want him to do more with Fred as the two of them together seem to produce the best music, but this will do nicely for now!
@TheBicycleRyder Yeah... but there's a significant difference between "Flip" Dan and "Floating on the Leigh" Dan. It's the factors that came along later that helped to cultivate his sound, or develop it, or what have you... And all that touring.
@TheBicycleRyder i'm going to have to disagree with this. a while back i was reading through interview with various members of the band and it portrayed daniel rossen to be very particular in college in terms of who he played his music for. i think grizzly bear has allowed him to enter a public realm that DoE never really gave him the chance to see. i'm not saying that DoE didnt "open him up to the world" or anything but touring the world with grizzly bear must have played a part.
hey guys! i instantly fell in love with this song! so I tried playing it myself. I already have a few main parts pieced together and i'm wondering if there are people who would like me to post a rough how-to video. so if you want this please give this a thumbs up or a response to let me know :) Take care!
I meant to say Cris Taylor hence the next statement "Not to mention the amazing drumming." They're just such a brilliant band, everything about them that's all that needs to be said.
Spent 20 minutes googling mishead lyrics to finally hear this. Posting some now juuust in case it gets indexed and someone kind find it: Exiles on a field goner in a mine Diggin up the swan
This was released in my lifetime. Not all is doom and gloom.

I hear a whole lot of Beatles in this song. It has been and remains my favorite tune of 2012.

Daniel is pure genius.
truly is.
Heard this on the radio and had to find it. Just perfect. It's like a missing Beatles song.

He just came back and is better than ever!

So Beatlesque or more accurately, Paul McCartney solo circa mid 70s.
This song crushes anything he ever did with Grizzly Bear and Department Of Eagles
Yes gawd, lol I love this guy! the way he flows a song is magic, listening to the curves and edges his mindful melodies intertwine gives me so much life!!!!!!
Addicted to this song
You're right. The intro to Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" comes to mind as this song begins.
i love the George Harrison feel of this track. Daniel is definatley one of the most talented musicians of this generation.
Daniel Rossen is a genuis. If/when he tours, my life will be complete.
reminds me of the intro to the ballad of sir frankie crisp. love it.
Such a departure from the grizzly bear/department of eagles catalog. I'm really impressed by this.
Bloody amazing, I am glad I am not the only one who loves his music. This song also reminds me kind of George Harrison.
Oh my. This is fantastic. What a fantastic songwriter. So glad I stumbled upon Grizzly Bear. And of course this.
i love the guitar in this song! its so classic and beautiful. Now this is guitar playing. Even my dad likes this.
Daniel, you are great. I love your music. Your music is what builds my last two years.. Thanks for making the time spending with the train extensively more lovely.
this guy is an international treasure
I LOVE DANIEL!!!!!!
Daniel Rossen is amazing here, there, and everywhere.
George Harrison meets Elliot Smith...this is a extroardinary song...thanks Daniel Rossen!!
This song has been so in my head all day - so good to listen. Nice George Harrison touch.
Just heard "Golden Mile" the other day on KCRW. I'm truly not prepared for the mind blowing I'm going to receive from this album.
I can't wait!!!!!
I LOVE YOU DANIEL ROSSEN
lol speaks deep to us us with clay soil trying to make a living. makes me feel appreciated. I feel sad and enlightened all at once. great song
this is a masterpiece. everything about it is perfect.
one second in and I'm already in love.
o man this is so great. if this is the quality of his solo work, i can't wait to hear any new grizzly bear music
this song sounds just as good in a pitch black room on a snowy night as it does on a blazing summer afternoon..
I'm so happy about this EP coming out
I like it. A lot.
Definitely great
Great tune....love that melody and the way it was recorded/produced. Brilliant!
AWSOME! DANIEL YOU GIVE ME AN INSANE SPACE!
the song is cray!!! love it!!!
Never enough grizzly bear, department of eagles or just dan. Good god I can't stop.
Exquisite. Thank you, Daniel.
Perfect song
Yeah that one's going on the playlist
Mr Rossen, congratulations on creating something.
Very nice. I love the drums and guitar.
Very good song! thanks
Yeah I did discover this on kcrw I love that station
Simply a genius..
this. is. BLISS!
Oh man... eargasm...
really really good
I love this so so much
Dude, what an intro. Bravo!
This is some good stuff! I'm grateful to have found out about this EP! Totally gonna grab it.
I haven't been this excited since Veckatimest and Archive 2003-2006.
@Kugunga you got the Chris' mixed up. Lol. Chris Taylor produces and Chris Bear drums.
@ZeeJules67, thanks for pointing me to that song. :) Always challening to find good music. Little easier now to wait for this EP. ;)
If it's Dan you know it's gonna be good. I really want him to do more with Fred as the two of them together seem to produce the best music, but this will do nicely for now!

Does this remind anyone else of George Harrison's All Things Must Come To Pass? I bloody LOVE this!!!
100% you are genius!
@theDman911 I found out about Grizzly Bear after Yellow House came out, but it was an amazing album. I'll give you that.
@lamonti I had never put those two together before but that's spot on. I would also throw Fink in there as a descendant of that lineage.
hey guys! i instantly fell in love with this song! so I tried playing it myself. I already have a few main parts pieced together and i'm wondering if there are people who would like me to post a rough how-to video. so if you want this please give this a thumbs up or a response to let me know :)

@hugomeyer1991 Yes please! i would love to see that. His songs are always so hard to figure out haha
@kwickemarts I know! Don't you feel as if he's tied down to his music like Eliott was? I sense like a connection.
@soupermanist Well of course I give Grizz their due, but have you never heard Archive or The Cold Nose? He was doing amazing stuff before GB.
banger
Let's not forget about Department of Eagles.
Grizzly Bear is holding back Daniel Rossen. His musical genius is too great and versatile to do any one thing. Fact.
@jstolesomething
exactly what I thought but didn't have the words to convey.
Ultra good! :D
Great White Album era track!
I don't really hear any Beatles in this song, mostly because I actually like this song.
genius
Spent 20 minutes googling mishead lyrics to finally hear this. Posting some now juuust in case it gets indexed and someone kind find it:
Exiles on a field

Diggin up the swan
Very Beatles, nice track ;)
More like very George Harrison
Mikael Hegerstroem shit, I didn't know George Harrison wasn't in The Beatles...
@TheSaOk
No problem, man. Listen to Harrison's whole album! You'll be smitten by it's sound.
epic.
Best Beatles song they never wrote.
Sounds nothing like the Beatles, has a lot of solo George Harrison influence, but also diverges a lot from that.
@@hermestrismegistus4650 Whatever you say, musicologist.
I love that squeeking guitar thingy at 2:41, 2:57 and 3:13.
Lovely song. The chorus reminds me of Elliot smith
@Andrew Cayer, listen to the opening of Mind Games by Lennon then listen to this opening.
@TheBicycleRyder Eh... I think Grizz is at least partially responsible for his being who he is now. Gotta give everyone their dues.
@iansarmy1 WHAT! where did you get that!?
Grizzly Bear
Want. Neeeed.
@iTavukciyan what about yellow house?
Also, when does this come out?
@iansarmy1 which vinyl is that then?
Ah but Ed Dorste was originally grizzly bear on his own. And Chris Bear does their production. Not to mention the amazing drumming...
office intro melody
elliott smith shout out
If ever I declare war, this is the song
Good point. But I don't think any musician wants to create bad music.
Nobody since me. I weep.
Mining the George Harrison - Elliott Smith lineage. Great stuff.
