Actually, it wasn't "rap" week, it was "hip hop" week. They just knew that the other groups were likely to do rap, and chose a different path.....successfully, I might ad.😊
Every time I see this episode I think of the Superfruit vlog where Scott and Mitch react to some of their performances on the Sing Off (years later obviously) and Mitch is mortified that they made him wear that hat! 😂
In that SuperFruit video, Scott mentions that they were really mad when they performed this song. That might have been due to some of the issues they were having with the show's producers trying to control them beyond what was reasonable.
Wait for 7,10 & 12! You see Pentatonix being born, crawling, walking & sprinting off to their new career in these performances! It’s so fun to watch them grow from week to week & learn to work together & trust each others’, & their own, talents. They blended together so effortlessly! Love the reaction per usual, Salvo 😊 PS: there are groups left on both sides of the stage. They only showed the left side of stage.
I think they were front runners after this one and never looked back. Gosh they were so young ( youngest in the competition) and they just became unstoppable Fun fact Kirsty became first woman to ever win the sing off!!
One of my favorite performances. I'm so glad the judges really knew their potential and talent. It gave me a bit of chills and cheers, they all just don't know how successful they'd be.
This was when I began praying that these folks would survive the fame they were going to experience. They were so very young, and hungry, so vulnerable.
At this point there were 8 groups left. The breakdown of the season: For the first 4 weeks the 16 groups were split into 2 groups of 8, so PTX only performed on episodes 2 and 4. In weeks 1 and 2, 2 groups were sent home in each show, and in weeks 3 and 4 it was 1 group per show. (in weeks 3 and 4 each group performed 2 songs each night - so for PTX they performed Your Love is My Drug and Piece of My Heart on the same night) Week 5 was the first to have all remaining groups on the same week: 10 groups, with 2 being eliminated This performance was from week 6 Week 7 is the superstar medleys and from week 8 till the finale each group perform two songs each week so for PTX that means that the following performances are on the same night: 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 and 12 Performances 13,14 and 15 (winner song) are all from the finale.
They were such good arrangers even this early on. That is what sets them apart from everyone else. They aren't afraid to take a song apart and put it back together in new and interesting ways that really drive the emotion and give us all chills. They also deliver as well as they arrange.
One of my most favorite performances from the Sing Off! Everyone is amazing! Avi! Goodness! Scott! OMG! Mitch's little violin solo was beautiful! Killed it! I agree! Thanks for doing this one! There are groups on both sides up on the stage. I think there are four on each side plus PTX. Maybe 9 groups left.
Thanks for taking this journey with us. Watching their evolution and how carefully they heard and responded to the judges’ comments, what an amazing gift. What they learned and figured out in these early days led to who they are today. 💕
this is probably my favorite performance. I go back and forth between this one and performance 10 all the time haha they really left everything out on that stage, didn’t they? also technically, it was hip-hop week so that’s why they didn’t have to rap. nowadays they never shy away from rapping haha 😂
I'm happy that you came back to The Sing Off. Pentatonix did a great job with this performance. Mitch's violin sound was pretty awesome. I thought that I heard/saw Kirstie helping with the sound. Since Ben did not mention it, maybe I was not correct.
This is one of my favorites. For me, with the exception of one performance they just keep getting better or at the very least remain top notch. Great Reaction Thx 😎
Great reaction, thanks SalvoG😃. There were 16 groups at the beginning. There were some on the other side of the stage I believe. It's amazing to go back and watch their beginnings and to see how much they've grown and become the premiere a cappella group that set the standard for the people and groups that followed😊.
Great reaction! There were more teams on the other side of the stage, not just the 4 you saw on the one side. They started with 16, and this is week 5, and one team was eliminated every week, so there were 11 teams left, I think. This is the one where the Trio really started to trust Avi and Kevin to lead the beat, and that was a big turning point in how powerful they sounded. My next favorite is #7, although #6 is a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next one!
Can’t wait for you to see Superfruit reacting to the Sing Off - Mitch says in this one “they made me wear that hat, I look like I’m in the musical Newsies” or something like that 😛😛😛
They absolutely killed it while the group that they were worried about, Urban Method, didn't do such a great job. That group did Airplanes by B.O.B which highlighted their rapper but showed that they didn't have the equal singing talents as Pentatonix
I enjoy most of their performances on the show, but 10 and 12 are next level.
Very much agree with this statement! 👍
7 and 10 are good
7 too

Especially when it really.boils downs to ”be less obviously gay”.

Great description! Agree.
Well said!
I think they were front runners after this one and never looked back. Gosh they were so young ( youngest in the competition) and they just became unstoppable Fun fact Kirsty became first woman to ever win the sing off!!
She's still the ONLY woman to ever win on The Sing-Off.
Well,that explains a Whole lot…so very Sony!
Just wait. 7, 10 and 12 will knock your socks off.
One of my favorite performances. I'm so glad the judges really knew their potential and talent. It gave me a bit of chills and cheers, they all just don't know how successful they'd be.
This one was the one that convinced me they were unstoppable. The really left it all out there. It was hot!
Hubba Hubba!
This was when I began praying that these folks would survive the fame they were going to experience. They were so very young, and hungry, so vulnerable.
You are just over 1/3 of the way to where I realized they deserved to be where they are today. Can't wait till you reach #12

ahh I see, well that make sense now!

Enjoying ur Sing Off journey, keep going! ❤️🙌🙌
They literally said they were NOT going to rap 😂
There are groups on both sides of the stage. Hope you don’t wait so long between performances.
I thi k what Kirstie meant was they chose an hop hop song without rapping in it....which was a risk.
More is coming!
💖💖💖💖💖
He is "sapping" lol. Sing/rapping lol.
You've not gotten to the best one yet, keep going.....
Performance 2 was my least favorite while this and OMG are tied for my next least favorite. Really not a fan of the genre.
