Belgium had an amazing show and strong songs. The only song I didn't liked was from an Italian woman, forgot her name. I would have rooted for her as Italian, but her song was the weakest. My personal winner was Gala and I didn't saw Gustaph winning it. When he got elected at first I hated it, but I guess it's just because I love Gala's song so much, even Cherine, Ameerah and Straling were great. But after listening again to the song, I realised it's really a great song and the simple lyrics work perfectly for us because we ain't English native speakers. I have this song litteraly the entire day stucked in my head. It's in my personal top 5.

They're literally channelling the current trend of 90's dance songs being rehashed, or the 90's dance sounds being brought back in to newer music to give it a retro flavour. People forget that Belgium were the powerhouse producers of eurodance music throughout the 90's and then the trance genre in the 2000's. The lineage of this song is quite self explanatory In that sense because it all ties in. I love his vocal and I like how he almost reminds me of a modern Boy George with his styling. The lyrics aren't the best, but not every song has to have deep meaningful message. Vocally he's not giving us a crazy gymnastic workout, but he can sing superbly. I hope that he does qualify because I love 90's sounds. This takes me right back to my teen years!

Walter Van Beirendonck is one of 'The Antwerp Six'' famous fashion designers, a long with Dirk Van Saene, Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Marina Yee and Dirk Bikkembergs. He's one of the big names in fashion, although I'm not a fan either.
I think I initially had a bad reaction cause I liked so many other songs for Belgium but on more listens and watches it's not ba just a little generic. I love the "world got me going crazy" bit

What always strikes me about the pre-reviews is that almost everyone wants to put a song in a box... sounds like the eighties, looks like Boy George, is gay. Come on people, it's about putting on a fun act that catches on. It makes me happy, it invites you to dance and what is important, the song 'lingers'. A possible winner!

i was waiting for this 🙂. thx. I'm also hoping for a revamp to drag this a bit into the 21st century he sold his song the best on the night. in interviews he said that they were going to make it all a bit bigger for the ESC stage but the basic concept wouldn't change much. we'll see.
well they did revamp in 2013 but it was the french broadcaster. i would assume hes got lots of connections who could help him out. also hes clearly a ESC famn, so im sure he knows what a revamp is

Ok, let's start by saying, all respect to Gustaph. He is a fantastically likeable personality and his vocals in parts of this song are tremendous. But let's be honest here, this song is just not good enough. The favourites in Eurosong for varying reasons, screwed up big time. The 2 takeaways for me in particular were Cherine's shit show of a staging plus dodgy live vocal ability. And as for The Starlings.....omg how could they choose the wrong song. They narrowly came 2nd to Gustaph but would, imo, have definitely won with the song they rejected. (I still listen to that on a daily basis). I wish Gustaph and Belgium well, as I'd love to go to Brussels for a ESC extravaganza but we must be real here. The optimum ambition and achievement would be qualification and in the weaker semifinal with only televote (I'm sure the juries would kill this) there is hope of doing just that. Televoters tend to favour uptempo songs and this gives this entry hope. Either way, it has zero hopes of making top 10 as it stands. Still, i wish Gustaph and Belgium all the best of luck for Liverpool 👏👏
oh yea, this has absolutely zero chance at getting top 10 the choice of Rollercoaster was mind boggling, Oceanside was clearly more interesting, whereas RC was pure cliche. No idea what went through their mind. plus some weird jury stuff for them too. Shame that Cherine messed up. i liked the ambition but it didnt work. also i find that song v hard to listen to, the "sound" of it is cool, but the actual melody, i dont find it enjoyable.

Firstly: absolutely no shade on Gustaph because he has an amazing voice, he seems to be a wonderful person and he's so enthusiastic on going to Eurovision. I wish him all the best. However... this song is just... dated, basic, safe... I mean, I appreciate a celebration of gay culture, but this song is just very uninspired. He gives it his all, so real kudos to him! He's coming to Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam where I'll be going to, and I'll totally cheer for him. You weren't the only one not expecting this to be a contender: he himself was obviously completely shocked that he won. I don't know about that friendly rivalry between Belgium and the Netherlands pushing both of them to up their game. It would mostly be between the Netherlands and the Dutch-language broadcaster in Belgium, since tbh the Netherlands usually completely forgets about French-language Belgium existing... sorry Wallonia, but I get the feeling that Walloons don't really care what's happening in the Netherlands either. The approach of the French- and Dutch-language broadcasters in Belgium is completely different: I don't think there is a common plan for Belgium in Eurovision, they're both doing their own thing. Strangely enough, the selection procedure of the RTBF has had more in common with the Netherlands's broadcatser; they've internally selecting for ages and come up with the more edgy entries, while VRT has been more attached to its national final. And in that national final, however well they organize them, and again sorry to say so, my feeling is that they usually go for songs that are deemed "Eurovision friendly", or for singers with and underdog vibe. You may notice that I'm trying hard not to be an arrogant Dutchie and tread on any Belgian toes, cause I do really care about my neighbours doing well in Eurovision!
