Should have checked out Rockbottom music shop just by West Croydon. Legendary music shop whos owner actually wired amps for The Beatles back in the day. It was looted during the London Riots in 2011 and it's an absolute miracle that it's one of the few independent music shops still standing today ❤

I'm nearly 40, I grew up in Croydon, I still live in Croydon, I know people who have been murdered etc, its safe as long as you stay away from the roads, if your a gang member in Croydon you are not safe.
Unfortunately this is definitely not the Croydon I recall and remember from my childhood, growing up there in the 70s, 80s. Croydon has definitely changed beyond all recognition, not for the good either. You have some lovely areas south of the borough. Parts of Purley, Shirley, Coulsdon, Sanderstead which are still very nice. North of the borough, Norbury, Thornton Heath and West Croydon, there are definitely no good words to describe the place. The night time economy which used to exist is no longer, the many restaurants, bars, nightclubs were in abundance. The great shopping centre, The Whitgift centre and surrounding shops, Alders for their Christmas decorations were absolutely unbelievable. Many people would travel to Croydon for the many shops which it had. Some forget that Croydon was on par with the West End for shopping. Like many Croydonians, I moved away from the borough as the demise set in. It's a shame those in control of Croydon council certainly helped in destroying Croydon. Only ever come back to the borough from my home two hours south to watch my beloved Crystal Palace football club. The borough of Croydon, home of my childhood and some of adult life will always be in my heart forever.
