  • Grey hair transition, 23 Months no dye. So I got a comment. A question.
-" Why do you want to look old and worn out?"
    That made me think.
    Thank you for watching 💖

My growout is finished and I would never consider coloring it again! I enjoy the freedom and the natural highlights in my hair now, but most of all, I embrace my age and the woman I've become. The first time I tried to "let it grow" I re-coloured after 4 months. I look back on that now as a mistake. I was more concerned about "looks". Nothing compares to going back to 'natural' ! Don't base your decision on negative comments. I can't imagine.....23 months and re-coloring?! Of course whatever you decide will be ok for you. 😊Think wisely, not reactively.💛🙏

Do not dye it you will regret it. Go get a new style or something. This will make you feel better about yourself . Rocking grey hair gives you confidence and your hair will be healthier. I have only stopped for two months dying my hair. And my sclap is only just starting to feel better. We are all getting old. No problem if people want to look younger. Why not just look like you. Be yourself. I don't care what anyone has to say . The bible says your grey hair is a crown. So I'm going to try and embrace mine. Good luck. I know so many want to stop dying there hair every two to three weeks. Well I've had enough of running to the shops for another box dye

I totally get how you feel. I went 2 yrs and a few months letting it go gray. Then I paid to finish it off to gray and then cut to style. Was not happy at all. Every time I looked in the mirror I didn't like what I saw. Not bc of the cut. The lady that helped me into grayish so to speak and cut my hair did a beautiful job. My hair was cut to just below the shoulder. But I still didn't like what I saw looking back at me. So coming up in the 3rd year I decided to color it. I'm 68 and I'm much happier at what I see looking back at me. And I'm the only one I'm trying to please. I'm not denying getting old if I color my hair. I was 65 when I started to embrace my gray hair phase. Many different opinions, many different reasons, many suggestions. I can only say...what makes you and you alone feel good about yourself...that's what you do and why you do it. God Bless.

Thank you. I only redo my roots every month and a half or 2 months. In between I use the root spray. It works great in between coloring and lasts a couple of washes. Here's another little beauty. As you do your roots...you're creating lighter streaks through your hair. I love that. Look for the blessing 😉. Best Wishes.

@@saffysaffy3239 If only lifting the face was as easy as dying the hair! Imagine that-just buy a box for $10 every month to keep the face lifted too! However I have found a way to do this with magnesium oil massage but sadly its too complicated to explain how to do-otherwise Id be shouting it from the rooftops cause I know how distressing aging is to many women and I just want to help. However they have created an anti aging pill but its not on the market yet. Look up David Sinclair. Or for something even more way out there, look up the Ellen Langer anti aging experiment.

You are very pretty! Your hair is quite healthy, nice curl and the color is pretty even considering its grown out. I just went through this myself after not coloring it for a year. I broke down & toned it the other day, and I hated it. Now 2 re-colors after its okay, but damaged. Being a blonde I should've left it or only done a few foils on top. Pay no attention to negative people, they aren't worth your precious energy. Look at how beautiful you are - it comes from within & radiates outward. If you have or have not dyed it, it should be for yourself and not others. Be happy, ignore comments from those who are negative, and do what you feel works for you.

Try to not give up, if you can...be strong..... We live in a society where women have to be eternally young... which is very silly.... I'm so pleased that ladies of All ages are embracing their natural hair colours ... Most men don't dye their hair .... I see men in there 30,s with grey hair.....

I'm watching this three months too late.... just wanted to give you some encouragement on your grow out. I think it is normal to go through all of these stages as you grow out your natural colour. It could be a good thing to pause and consider what it means for you to feel 'old and worn out', and to see if you can find the beauty in yourself as an older woman. For what it is worth, I see your beauty. Your hair is so gorgeous - the length, the style is relaxed and casual, you look like a woman I'd love to sit down with and have some coffee. The colour also suits your skin tone. I'm also on this quest for my natural colour, and I definitely relate to what you are expressing here.

Grey hair is not for everyone , it is beautiful if it’s almost all white but otherwise the white mixed with a lot of natural color can look just washed out. I went ten months trying to grow out and it made me look washed out so I jumped back into colouring and love it , something to consider is semi permanent color it will cover enough without the damage .

Hi!! Don’t let one person who obviously doesn’t know anything about beauty make you question your decision to let your beautiful grey shine!! Just keep your goal of beautiful long grey hair in mind! You have to accept that this stage is just a stage! It’s what you need to go through to have long grey hair. You know it and I know it! I have the same goal 😊. It’s not easy! If you dye your hair back make sure it’s because that’s what YOU want to do. Not what society says you should do! It’s fun to be badass and change society’s mind 😉

Honestly, I think the gray part looks super pretty against your skin tone and brightens your face. It makes your skin glow! If you are up for a cut, I would go that route first before throwing in the towel. A chin length modern bob would be super cute on your face shape and also alleviate the heaviness at the bottom. Really, as long as you keep the cut a more modern style, it really does showcase the beauty of your gray. I wouldn’t judge if you dyed it either. I’m completely gray after starting my journey in 2019. I cut the last of the dye off in 2021. I completely understand how painful this process is and if you aren’t ready, you aren’t ready.
You could also do the cut and then dye the parts that are colored a fun color to alleviate the boredom and feel more fun and make it less obvious. Blues, pinks and purples look so cute with gray and silver!

I am almost eighty. My roots are a nice salt and pepper. I got the idea that I would dye my hair grey let it grow out. Found out that grey dye fades quickly and leaves a mass of brassy straw colored ends. So what to do? Now I am back to dyeing my hair grey or trying every purple mask out there. Found a woman on youtube that suggested adding a small aound of black dye and activator to shampoo and letting it sit for 10 to 15 minuets. It did tone the bras. I liked the darker tones.
This has been an 18 month experiment. I just dyed my hair back to medium ash brown. Looks fine and I'm done with being consumed with about my hair. There is no one size fits all. If I was to do it again, I would get it cut short and let it grow out naturally. But for the time being, I'm burned out from thinking about my hair.

As we naturally lose hair pigments either we can accept it and embrace our new natural color or try to fight an endless battle of covering it with dyes that never look quite natural - and the older you get and the more white hair you have the more difficult it gets and the more unnatural the dyes look... Which way do you want to go? I think if everyone keeps following the majority and noone dares to make a different choice the collective mindset will never change.

I'm dealing with that same thing right now. My bangs and framed around my face are a lovely grey, looks blonde. the rest is sort of salt and pepper. I just did a bleach bath on my ends to lighten the brown, now it's a strawberry blonde. I'm a mess :) Kind of worried though because my skin tone is pale with red undertones from auto immune disease, and very light hair doesn't look good on me IMO. But if you want to try color, stick with ones that gradually wash out, demi permanents. that way if you change your mind, you don't have to start over. Or look into one of those color conditioners, they come in all kinds of colors, blondes, browns, etc. Edit to add, and as for that person and their rude comment, should've told them eventually they're going to look old and worn out too. Sounds like a vain person, and karma has a way of dealing with those folks.

I am in the UK and have been thinking of ditching the dye for a long time. I am now into the 4th month without colouring my hair and I keep wondering if I am starting to look old - I keep having a change of mind and then remember why I wanted to stop colouring my grey hair in the first place. That keeps me going. You are definitely NOT old and tired looking. To think you have come this far growing out the colour, it would be a shame to start colouring again just because someone made a negative comment. Obviously you need to do what you need to do for yourself but I hope you will decide to continue on your journey of letting your grey hair grow. Your hair is beautiful and so are you - don't believe anyone who tells you that you are "old and tired".

Every now and then I see someone with grey hair and absolutely love it , but mostly I don't. There's a woman at work whose long silver hair is gorgeous and glamorous. But quite often I think people look very washed out. My own grey is so light in patches at the front that from a distance it looks like a bald spot! So I will continue on with colouring for the moment for sure.

I am sorry that you received such a mean girl comment. I think you look lovely with either color hair, but I'm in the same situation as you are and I'm totally rethinking my choice to go silver. Do I feel old and worn out? Yes, I do. Do I want to advertise that this is both how I feel AND how I look? I just don't know. Rethinking it! So I'm with you and still undecided but the fact that we are even questioning it rather than loving our silver says a lot. Best wishes to you in your decision making process.

It looks great! Have you heard of color analysis? Based on seasonal color? I would get that done. Your natural hair is the right color always. What I would recommend is to stop and think about why you made the decision to go natural in the first place. Were you tired of having to dye your hair so often? It does take time and money do so. Sometimes when time goes by we forget the negative of things. The negatives of dying your hair won't change and once you dye it you're back to square one. I like the idea of maybe getting a trim of your pretty hair first then see how you feel. It does take time to grow out the grey that's true. I think for someone young like you it's a bold move. But as others have said it's a choice you're free to make. I wish you all the best.

I shaved my head 19 months ago and its interesting to see different lengths and how it really looks like through out the stages of growth. And yes your natural colour brings light out in you. Thank you for sharing ♥ You have beautiful face and trying new shoulder length hair cut with straightening your hair would look great and refreshed change with parting on the side. Give it a try it will grow fast and you will see how it really is one grey colour then 2 tones and explore with different colours clothing as well. Have fun with it. Inspired light ♥

If you are still having trouble transitioning, maybe try a color depositing conditioner, like overtone…. I have the same questions, but my hair is brown on the ends. I am going to give it a try. You're very sweet and I think in the long run you will be happy with it. There are some amazing conditioners called overtone that are shades of silver that wash out in about 3 months. I like the med dark one, vibrant silver, although I haven't tried it yet. I’m a blonde still and doing the dye strip method for a while. The gray also needs a lot of maintenance to look soft and nice I've noticed, but lots of advice and support on TH-cam on that. But, it’s a lot less work than keeping up the coloring.

some people are just sent to try us in life, I think those very same people would say if you dyed it, wow why did you do that it looked good on you so yeah best to ignore that comment and others like it, in saying that, I have been thinking of doing my hair as its pretty white now and I think the texture does not feel as good when its natural the dye seems to smooth the hair shaft, however I keep going back to why I grew it out to start with and it was the upkeep of the roots was to much work anyway you look great not tired or worn out

We only associate gray hair with being "old" because we've been told that for so long by society at large. If we didn't dye our hair at the first sign of gray, we wouldn't have this negative association with gray hair equating to "old"...it would just be another hair color.
I think your hair looks great, but you should certainly do what makes you feel best about it. I'm coming up on two years gray now as well, but I love mine, and you couldn't pay me to dye it again. It's just as much a part of my identity now as my brunette hair was when I was younger.
I think you're smart taking time to think about the decision and not just jumping straight back to dye. That way, if you do dye it, you'll know that's what you really want. You can also do semi-permanent dyes instead of permanent (think Overtone, etc). That could be a fun way to try some different colors (lavender, blue or green, maybe?), and just let it wash out in a few weeks.
Good luck! I'm sure whatever decision you make, it'll be the right one for you.

I think a haircut will freshen up the hair, I know the grow out can be long and frustrating, it took several yrs to do mine and I ended up cutting it- of course I went to a hacker 🤦🏻‍♀️. now it’s all good, Love my hair and it seems to change, it’s actually darker now lol- but I love the white parts. I just wish there were more of them. I have a more dark grey and whilte- salt and pepper. I do get lots of compliments on my hair. I truly think a hair style helps. Not just long but with a style to it. And don’t listen to those haters! It’s the stereo typing of grey hair. I had grey coming in, in my thirties. So yea, I am very glad not to have to deal with that dye anymore. I believe I was 53 when I finally let it go natural. And I have long hair. About mid back below the shoulders, but it’s in a butterfly cut- so some face shaping. Good luck stick with it! - p.s. if it gets to where your really not liking it, try some purple shampoo to lighten any white that has turned brownish and if that doesn’t work - well then you can always dye it again, 🤷🏽‍♀️. But at least you now know what it really looks like with your own color and I’m sure it’s saving you money 😉.

I think that sometimes grey hair looks old and worn out and sometimes it looks fabulous....maybe the blunt cut is the problem and you should add layers. I have a lot of white in my grey so I decided to make mine all white all over and really like that (my hair isn't long, though.) Maybe wear a little blush and subtle lipstick or gloss??? Do not listen to that silly comment! You look beautiful with the gray hair. I just think some people are still really conditioned to this old stereotype. You do not look 'old' and you do not look 'worn out'. I get so inspired watching how amazing each individual going through this journey, ultimately transforms into a completely radiant person. I can't put it into words, but there is something that happens once a person has fully transitioned. Like they've come in to their own (power) maybe? And they just start glowing. I hope you keep going because you are almost there!

  • @nancyroach8655

You are a beautiful woman and I would love to have your hair! Don't listen to anyone negative, don't read those comments. Surround yourself with people that support your efforts. There are so many of us that will cheer you on! Watch other silver sisters and their struggles through the transition. They can be very inspiring. You have put so much effort in and your gray IS beautiful! Your hair is long and healthy and will only get better with time. Embrace the gray and the new stage of you image and if it still doesn't feel right then maybe the time is not quite right to go gray. You cans always try again and again. I think it is as much mental as anything so don't be hard on yourself if the time isn't right for it now after all! Do what your heart wants to do and don't give a thought to anyone who doesn't support you decisions, whatever they are. Know that you are beautiful.

Hi there I'm on my 8th month of growing out my silver. Listen Beauty I know comments like that are very rough n mean, but did you think that it could be someone that is scared of their true self? So many can judge, but not many can be true to whom they are. Your silver is beautiful, and believe me I've thought the same many times. I now wear wigs to change of up look, and it has been fun, but did you know also that that person that left that comment could not do this the way you did. I congratulate you, and embrace your natural beauty, because if you dying your hair you will only regret it due to the silver will still come in, and you will not be your authentic self. Plus you will have to keep dying all your natural beauty away. You don't look old I'm 48 and I feel 35 some people want you to have that spirit of evil don't let anyone steal your joy, and true self. Think about how far you have came , and went through all the transitions, feelings, etc to get here. Also, maybe do highlights. I don't think you look tired and old, I am almost 65, now I look tired, but luckily My grey has been taking its time coming in. This natural hair color compliments your wonderful skin tone beautifully! Your eyes are amazing! Perhaps simply refresh the hair cut and apply some lovely color to your lips? Also, you could try new colors in your clothes? I haven't dyed my hair for twenty years and I have my first gray hairs now. I notice that the color of some clothes that I used to really like do not look good on me any more. So, I am discovering new colors. My reasons for not dyeing my hair are ecological. I do not want to wash all those chemicals down the drain to pollute water and nature for my vanity. If there are days when I feel a bit tempted to dye my hair, I always go back to my green values and feel strong again in my decision and in myself. Love and all the best to you!

Kati, you have a beautiful youthful face and the grey does not harm you one bit, it looks like light brown and is a soft texture. All that being said, I feel women are pressured to go grey by other women--men would never want that for most women. If you want to color your hair, color it. I'm 61 and always looked older. Grey hair does me no favors

Hello your hair is beautiful. I would go with lighter make-up thats more suited to lighter toned hair. I would go with some really light colors and then warm it up from there, that will make a huge difference. Your skin tone will carry it well and be more balanced appearance. The hair colors coming in are a lovely color, if you do make an adjustment I would just add a few highlights around your face for now, and maybe some more if you like how it turns out. It will still look natural as it grows out if you dont want to keep up with the highlights there wont be a harsh line like a dark color would show as the hair grows
