Alright, first of all, I'd like to say big thanks to SMASH English. It has helped me tremendously with preparation for the FCE. If only everyone had watched SMASH English, the world would be a much happier place. The speaking part itself is not really hard and is very short. If you get the opportunity DO SPEAK TO YOUR PARTNER before the exam - if they haven't watched SMASH English it may be that they will be nervous and confused what to do. I haven't done that unfortunately and now I'm little worried what my results will be, as my partner was very nervous and not exactly prepared - we found it hard to construct a natural conversation.
I am sure you'll be fine. If you speak the same way that you write then you'll have done SMASHING! Thanks for the lovely comment, VonOstrau!

I have ADHD so listening and reading were a nightmare for me but actually speaking was the part where I scored the lowest marks. I am actually very confident when it comes to speaking English but my partner didn’t see me as her “friend” but more as her competitor and she was constantly interrupting me so that I kinda didn’t say much. So folk, if you know who’s your partner tell the person that you are “friends” and it has to be a dialogue, not a battle who says more.

Hi Toby! Last Saturday I took my CAE exam. I have a good feeling about that although I have to wait for results 🫶🤩 speaking part 2 was a disaster since I completely panic and couldn’t say a word! Maybe I answered just for one question 🙈 however, the rest of speaking parts went pretty well. I also had quite an aggressive partner … he didn’t really let me talk…🙈 but as you said I got additional questions in order to produce language 👍 writing part … a piece of cake! I have been watching your videos for about 3 months - literally every day! I must admit those videos helped me a lot! Thank you Toby! Your videos are extremely helpful, I love your work. I feel like I am mostly nervous for the speaking exam, I fear I will just shut down completely at the first question. I get nervous quite easily for exams and hearing my deadname will just make it worse. I'm a trans guy hence the deadname.

Regarding your name. Where are you going to have the examination? Will it be where you usually take your English lessons or somewhere else? In your situation I would talk to an invigilator or the examination centre leader. They would gladly inform the examiners of your situation. This way if you give a different name to the one on your paper it won't cause problems 👊👊

Hi Tony, I found your videos very useful and I love your content. I’m supposed to take my FCE exam in a few days and and I will take it in my local school. In that case I would tell the examiner the city I’m from and not the country as it’s pretty obvious. Does the pronunciation of the city affect the grade usually? Am I supposed to try to mimic an English accent while saying it or I can say it with full Italian accent straight forward? This is the same issue to address Italian nouns in general, I’m always very confused if the neat disconnection from an accent to another is going to bother the examiner.
