Great video ! Thank You. Looks like a great trip, and without the peak season crowds. We'll have to try a cruise. Maybe in the spring.

+Robnord1 Thanks Rob. If you haven't been on a cruise you guys really should do an Alaskan cruise or maybe surprise the Mrs.. Just get an inside room on a good ship and have a blast. The first time I went to Alaska there was a tilt up sign in front of the AAA office offering last minute deals. I think it was only around $300 per person for an inside passage cruise on Holland America. With an Alaskan cruise you don't really need any excursions which saves money. The very best things you see like glacier bay and Tracy Arm you just see from the ship itself. I have a video --well slideshow on my page on the Volendam of that trip if you're interested.

We viewed that one, and liked it very much. My wife has decided she wants to go to the Bahamas ffirst, but I agree, that Alaska cruise would be a fun and memorable trip.

I have been to the private Royal Caribbean and Carnival Islands which ARE in the Bahamas but It doesn't seem like I have been there. What I would really love to do is see the Exumas in the Bahamas. Lots of shallow sandbar like islands. It looks amazing.

I've been spoilt and never had foul weather aboard the Solstice, but great to see that she handles it so well. Thanks for the video

Thanks Russ.. And the Solstice does handle heavy seas well. I am especially amazed the stretched tents covering the rear of the ship by the lawns handle it so well.

I don't know how high the bow of the Solstice is but the water was crashing over it many times on one of our sea days. Every time I would grab my camera and go to the forward lounge things would calm down but when I reached the elevators you could feel the ship smashing a big wave again with a crash. While everyone else was hoping for calm seas I was hoping they would kick up just a bit more.

Hana Ro Ro, lol good video thanks. i live in kona and was looking for a way to go the other way but i think the jones act pretty much kills that. I don't see how they can make money doing this cruise because they would have to go back to vancouver with an empty ship

The Knights Templar flag flying on the Celebrity Solstice stern was an interesting sight. It turns out the Solstice is registered /flagged in Malta in the Mediterranean which was once an ancient holdout of the Knights Templars. I suppose it would be too expensive to register the ship in the USA?

Cruise ships are not registered in the USA because if they were US labor laws would come into effect including requiring a large percentage of the crew to be US citizens. That would mean the fare of your cruise would more than double.

Wow, that looked very windy! Did anyone get sick?

+Doctor Rennie (Dr. Rennie) Hi Dr. Rennie--- Yes, people did get sick on the Solstice but they are Wussies--I think they are called? Actually people prone to motion sickness are what they are and can't help it its just that I have never had much trouble with it myself. There were Vomit Bags placed around the ship on coffee tables, bars, and set on trash bins by each elevator bank.
They even wrote with a ball point pen "Vomit Bag" on the ones they put on the bathroom sinks. I suppose so we wouldn't mistake them for feminine napkin bags? But this was in the men's room so that was a little funny.
I really loved the rough days. It makes being at sea fun.
I don't know if you have ever seen my experience on the Royal Caribbean Freedom when it kept tilting over in 120 mph winds and the captain couldn't steer the ship. th-cam.com/video/Y1wnz6nwdHk/w-d-xo.html

We have done this trip from Vancouver to Hawaii several times now and we always hit that rough patch. Your video is accurate and it's a good thing for people to be aware that this itinerary usually has one rough day in the same area coming and going. It won't last long but for those who are sensitive to motion pack some candied ginger and gravel patches. The Hawaii trip will almost always have that one rough bit. sometimes better sometimes worse but nice to know about.

I am doing the Vancouver to Hawaii trip this September... so you're saying it's rough the first day heading west, but then it calms-down?

@@GeometricMason I am thinking of doing that itinerary this Sept 2023 - did you find the weather to be rough?

    • @GeometricMason
      @GeometricMason ปีที่แล้ว

@@wjarmstrong2842 Sorry can't help you. As you can see, my comment was three years ago... 2020... so that cruise got cancelled due to covid. Also, I am the wrong person to ask about the ship being rocky, because I was in the Navy for ten years and I hardly notice a cruise ship's motion.
