    Maybe add a link to your store at the end to promote tools used in the video as an idea, eg scissors, concave cutter and pots. Great vid as always mate, I always promote Greenwood, keep em coming.

    I have been leaving the pruning to just 2 or 3 times a year and the trees seem to benefit from this. I do trim Chinese Elms a little more frequently due to their strong growth. Your Katsura is looking great.

      Can you get a specific type of fertiliser that works better on certain species of tree.?

    Thanks Corin for this Video wish it was longer. What your take of Buying Japanese Maple Tree now with September,October left? Also put in a large Bonsai Pot height 28” 1 1/2 thick! Or should put in a Nursery Pot so it will not Stress out from shipping? Thanks Greg of USA,Ohio

      @greenwoodbonsaistudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it can only be longer if I'm slower lol Yes, you can buy a tree now, but id re-pot it in Spring. If its shipped well, it shouldn't get stressed.

    As someone with a relatively small number of developed trees, I would never be able to resist pruning for that long while watching long extensions grow. I'd prune back a lot sooner. Am I doing it wrong or would this tree have ideally been pruned earlier?

    • @greenwoodbonsaistudio
      @greenwoodbonsaistudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Peter, This was its second pruning this year. Yes, you can do it more frequently but letting it grow free like this isn't a problem. It is only 12 weeks growth.

    • @bonsa1guy
      @bonsa1guy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I used to be exactly the same. I only touch my maples now 2-3 times max a year. Katsura, I've found, is quite a vigorous cultivar and can easily pile on extension growth a few feet in length in a season.
      With your field Maple, @Peter Bone, you can easily throw in a defoliation too most years if it's growing well to slow it down, reduce internode size and remove energy at the tips.

    • @nigellee9824
      @nigellee9824 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, there is a danger of over pruning, too much care and attention on one tree…and as I’m sure you know that pictures of beautiful trees have just had a haircut before the photo was taken….that’s why I prefer pines…..I started my hobby when I was 28…I’m now 70, and have never lost my fascination with bonsai..anyway good luck with your trees

      No. The best success is under a misting system for propagation

    Hi guys, I'm thinking about what you said regarding this tree last year slow/weak grow and I'm trying to find out why. Working only with maples in development as I don't have any in refinement stage I found out this. The tree putting out energy to send new shoots and if you cut them before they give that energy back, the tree is getting weaker and next year is not going to have that much vigour. Do you think this was the case with this tree last year?

    • @greenwoodbonsaistudio
      @greenwoodbonsaistudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As I mention in the video, its got frosted last year and therefore it didn't send out any extension growth at all. But it is certainly back on track this year !
