I barely even noticed MegaMind2 until this video dropped. And after watching this video, Safe to say that I don’t have to go out of my way to watch it. Plus I can understand why the OG actors aren’t in this because $$$. But you’d think the animation would be better after saving a bit from hiring a different cast.
Usually having big names attached to a movie project helps getting a higher budget for it. In this case, the lack of big actors may have actually caused the budget to be cut even shorter, which could then even impact something like animation quality. Just speculation, though.
@@iamdanieloliveiramy speculation isn’t that the lack of big names affected the budget, but vice versa. I think universal made this movie with the idea it would be a cheap thing to put on paramount plus but still get interest with a popular IP.
As far as I know the trailer for the first movie contained the scenes mostly from a beginning, making it look like a classic hero vs villain movie, only to “kill” the hero in a first few minutes, so it is possible… But the chances are practically zero. Trailer being misleading about the plot is a common thing, trailer looking like trash is basically burning your potential profit. They even made a child sidekick and tv show, that have “selling crap to kids” written all over them. So it really doesn’t seem like “subverting expectations” moment
2:03 I’m so sick of that excuse Just because something is for kids, doesn’t mean it needs to be garbage Ben 10, Generator Rex, Static shock, Batman the animated series, Star Wars the clone wars, Avatar the last airbender and more All of the shows i mentioned and more are for kids and yet there awesome
Even Dreamworks TV show (like _Penguins of Madagascar,_ _Dragons: Riders of Berk,_ or _Kung Fu Panda: Legend of Awesomeness)_ has better animation quality than Megamind 2 would ever be. I kinda wish Dreamworks should stuck with _Megamind: Button of Doom_ -- aka the REAL Megamind 2.
Just want to remind everyone, that we did ask for this. In 2020 or 2021 everyone was begging for a Megamind revival when he started becoming lots of different meme trends
I really hope this is just a series and if it is a movie, then I hope this is just the creators' way of telling the people that Megamind is back. And when they do release it, I really hope the animation is better.
1:56 "At the end of the day, it is simply a kid's film..." No. That is never an excuse to make a poor quality film. There is a wealth of high quality films for kids that never took cover under the logic of "it's just a kids movie!" So there's no reason to dumb this down.
@@TYRANNYHORRORBro first you don't have videos, second i take a whole day just to animate one of mines, trust me, no comparison with an empty account.
There's a difference between a movie being made to be kid friendly, like Megamind was, and EVERY generation loved it- And a movie being made SPECIFICALLY for kids. Way too many shows and movies nowadays are forgetting that family films are meant to be enjoyed by the whole family- The kids, the parents, the cat or even the deaf blind grandma
thing is, the story they were going for *could* have worked. It could've been a story about how after Metro-Man disappeared (and by everyone other than a few who really know what happened) assumed dead, the doom syndicate tries to capitalize on the power vacuum and encounter megamind, it could've been a goofy "fire fighting fire" style of movie where both sides have similar styles of fighting but one has decades of experience fighting the strongest man alive (even if it was still one sided) and the other simply has numbers to make up for their lack of experience. there were so many ways to do this type of sequel right, and instead they shat on the legacy of the first film instead of building on what could've been an incredible foundation.
While everyone puking and punching on Megamind 2, I want to let you guys know that DreamWorks has a new movie called Orion and the Dark on Netflix. The movie released back in Feb 2nd 2024. Yes, this year, this month, less than a week ago. It's a really amazing and touching movie about a fearful kid facing his fears with the help of Dark. Although the third act may throw you off, like really really throw you off, and the movie does touch some subjects that is super heavy which would make some kids uncomfortable or won't understand (yes, heavier than Puss In Boots 2) but it's still worth checking out.
@@qbertking1910 np. Sharing this because a lot of people (including past me) didn't know about it. They didn't really promote it that much. My guess is that it's a new standalone movie on Netflix
Nah, the “kids movie” argument is never a good excuse for pumping out garbage. 🗑️ As you said the first movie was so good it was enjoyed by kids and adults alike which is how every genuinely good kids production is like. A wise man once said “ A childrens story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story.”
Well that's because it was animated by the TV production studio at DreamWorks instead of the guys who make movies, it's a lot like a Disney direct-to-DVD/direct-to-Disney Channel sequel from back in the day. It's also intended for Peacock, which is a streaming service that doesn't cost money because it's ad supported. Not surprised at all it looks so terrible.
Hope they do a Sonic the Hedgehog and delay it to fix the animation errors, hire the voice actors and do some much needed rewrites. Bonus points if they cancel the TV show.
Its a Peacock original, theres not a chance in hell theyre gonna go back to fix things. That company is hemorrhaging money and probably wont exist in the next 2 years. I think dreamworks put out a quick cash grab and then dumped it onto a dying service in desperate need of new content and willing to pay a premium for trash. Nobody with any amount of power in this production gave a shit.
OK, I DO want to point something out that I feel is important This is NOT technically a full sequel. This is a pilot movie to a spin-off children’s animated series. That doesn’t mean it’s above critique, obviously, but I do think people might be misaligning their expectations here. This isn’t How To Train Your Dragon 2, this is “Dragons: Rescue Riders”. This isn’t Kung Fu Panda 3, this is “Kung Fu Panda: Paws of Destiny”.
'You were a villain a few days ago, and now you're protecting it' - Sidekick girl Mfer, this happens literally days after the plot of MM 1, I'd call that a storyline following sequel, but it's just ass at it.

Just replace story with movie.
They gave Megamind a Cocomelon sidekick 💀
And it looks like Cocomelon too!
Some laughed. Some cried. Most were silent.
Megamind: "Oh you may think you're a Megamind movie, but you're lacking one thing."
Megamind 2: "Oh yeah, what's that?"
Megamind: "PRESENTATION"
The moment I saw they are making a sequel after a decade and a half, I knew it's going to be a quick cash grab because some out of touch executive saw one of the memes and went "Hey, we own that, dont we?"

A crazy puplicity stunt would be to make the trailer look trash, but then make the film it self extremly good. Or maybe im yappin
As far as I know the trailer for the first movie contained the scenes mostly from a beginning, making it look like a classic hero vs villain movie, only to “kill” the hero in a first few minutes, so it is possible…
But the chances are practically zero. Trailer being misleading about the plot is a common thing, trailer looking like trash is basically burning your potential profit.
They even made a child sidekick and tv show, that have “selling crap to kids” written all over them. So it really doesn’t seem like “subverting expectations” moment
Yes you are yapping.
Literally the point of a trailer is to generate hype, not kill it. How would that be a publicity stunt?

The thing is. For a tv series this animation is „acceptable“ but not for a movie

1:56 "At the end of the day, it is simply a kid's film..."
No. That is never an excuse to make a poor quality film. There is a wealth of high quality films for kids that never took cover under the logic of "it's just a kids movie!" So there's no reason to dumb this down.

There's a difference between a movie being made to be kid friendly, like Megamind was, and EVERY generation loved it- And a movie being made SPECIFICALLY for kids. Way too many shows and movies nowadays are forgetting that family films are meant to be enjoyed by the whole family- The kids, the parents, the cat or even the deaf blind grandma
corporations are obligated by their shareholders to maximize profits so they know but just dont care
If anything this megamind sequel could have just been a multi part pilot for the tv series and not a full movie.
I bet you 50$ they didn’t know Megamind: The Button of Doom exists.
thing is, the story they were going for *could* have worked.
Although the third act may throw you off, like really really throw you off, and the movie does touch some subjects that is super heavy which would make some kids uncomfortable or won't understand (yes, heavier than Puss In Boots 2) but it's still worth checking out.
reminds me of that thing where animators who didnt meet their quota got shreked
instead of being shreked they got megaminded

Thanks man, never knew about this one

Nah, the “kids movie” argument is never a good excuse for pumping out garbage. 🗑️ As you said the first movie was so good it was enjoyed by kids and adults alike which is how every genuinely good kids production is like. Megamind 2 getting the Buck Wild treatment.
Please don't remind me of that atrocity of a "movie". Still can't believe there are SIX ice age movies. And the last one isn't even made by Blue Sky.
I purposely forgot about the Buck Wild movie until now. It was so bad I stopped watching it halfway through, and I grew up an Ice Age fan

Megamind has fallen to the 90s Disney animated films direct-to-DVD sequel trope
Megamind 2’s recent released poster also looked like a shovelware Wii game as well
hell, the shovelware Wii game might've been a better sequel
I get major vibes or direct to dvd sequels with this film
that’s insulting to direct to dvd sequels
Well that's because it was animated by the TV production studio at DreamWorks instead of the guys who make movies, it's a lot like a Disney direct-to-DVD/direct-to-Disney Channel sequel from back in the day. It's also intended for Peacock, which is a streaming service that doesn't cost money because it's ad supported. Not surprised at all it looks so terrible.
Direct-to-streaming has become the new direct-to-DVD
@@matthewlopetegui6204yeah. I miss 2d animation. Never thought I would miss those movies. I even have some of them on Dvd.
@@skinwalker69420This looks worse than most disney direct to dvd movies. Remember that there were some good ones here and there.

From Megamind to Never Mind.
Megamind turned to Nevermind in 2024
Sometimes not having a sequel is good
2:00 my brother in Christ, Puss in Boots managed to do both
Hope they do a Sonic the Hedgehog and delay it to fix the animation errors, hire the voice actors and do some much needed rewrites.
If all of this succeeds and releases I will simply gaslight myself to thinking it never existed and that it was over after the first.
Looks like the creators behind Megamind 2 don't have the most mega of minds
I love "Will Fur-El" and his quality voice acting
OK, I DO want to point something out that I feel is important
This is NOT technically a full sequel.

Mfer, this happens literally days after the plot of MM 1, I'd call that a storyline following sequel, but it's just ass at it.
@@O-bearer-mine I mean yeah, but like, in the same way that Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness is a sequel to Kung Fu Panda
It’s probably not gonna be canon if they ever ACTUALLY make a Megamind 2 is all I’m saying

Now that I think of it, the animation for megamind 2 reminds me of the boss baby show Animation 💀
Megamind was underrated before since it wasn't getting as popular as other films so they didn't bother making a sequel, but now that it has become more popular than ever thanks to the meme community, it's only now they decided to make a sequel, and they didn't even do it right. This is what I hate. It feels like when your parents made you and they didn't care enough about you, then someone helped you became successful and only now your parents come crawling back at you for the money.
