NZer here - this is great to see! Really good to see rugby making good progress in the States! Great that the Free Jacks are making their home games a big "social day out" too - that's a really positive way of doing things! Having social-rugby games going on all day plus the food, drinks and entertainment - great!
As a Welshman I wish our clubs did similar tbh. Very few fans turn up to watch the rugby. If they have a bit of entertainment and make it a "day out" rather than just rugby match my 6 yr old wouldnt be bored and would want to come back again and again until he actually gets into the rugby.
@motodudu - same in NZ. So-called "Super" Rugby is loooooooong past its "use by" date. It's booooooooring. The franchises are artificial constructs really. It was ok when Christian Cullen and Lomu were playing but now - it's just "meh......... ". I'd *much* rather watch the NPC games and Ranfurly Shield games!
@sumboi2321true. USA has amazing athletes and the potential to takeover rugby with proper coaching and managing. On the other hand, I think rugby has the potential to change the NFL. Imagine doing set plays with laterals AND having blockers, etc. again proper coaching is needed.
Never will happen.. simply to.. nfl.. if baseball basketball even ice hockey can't computer to that sport. And this coming from a rugy league fan.. nfl once you follow it.. is 1000 times better than rugby due to the storylines. Off acenes
@@oliveryoung2260 US will never "take over rugby". The US has great athletes but doesn't seem to understand numbers don't equal domination. If that were the case France and England would only ever lose to each other and have won every world cup. Rugby is tactics at speed with a healthy dose of thinking on your feet and making decisions to what is in front of you. That isn't a strong point of the US, not in sport nor war.
Had the privilege to play rugby at a club level, Orange County Bucks. What a great sport. Make it a community affair and it will grow. Its a beautiful game.
Some University in America has just signed some agreement with Leinster around coaching and management. It's a good deal as Leinster is seriously top tier.
This was great to see...love that rugby has become more and more global. At 62yrs old and former rugby player born and raised in New Zealand, it is fair to say I'm a loyal All Blacks and rugby supporter. Rugby's essence is the community, seeing the locals at the club fields for a home game with good food, good music, and a festive environment win or lose, is what I love about the game.....rather win though😂😂😂

Incredibly smart move to turn the match into an event, just as the NFL does. Does the stadium have room for tailgating? Tailgating parties would be a sign of having arrived. Adding a half-time show of any kind (high school marching band, for examplle), would add to the festival experience.
Now to see a Team in one of the three "C's" (Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati). Hopefully Cleveland or Cincinnati as a homage to the their NFL teams (the Cincinatti Bengals and the Cleveland Browns).
most Canadian markets are tough for sports leagues in NA to generate a profit. Not impossible by any shadow of a doubt, but when "smaller market" cities in the US are all well over 1mil in populace in the city itself, let alone the included metro area it just makes it very difficult for them to compete financially. All that being said though, developing sports/leagues are actually perfect for smaller markets like many found in Canada, and as the MLR falls into this category I think y'all could definitely see more teams coming soon. At a minimum at least another in Montreal, maybe Vancouver. The prairies numbers wise has people but realistically with the dominance of grid iron football there and the stronger Canadian identity rather than a more cosmopolitan one I see it less likely to take off. You never know though! Get a good grassroots community going and anything is possible, just look at Soccer and its growth/resurgence in NA in the past 30 years. I could never have imagined growing up soccer being relevant enough for something like the MLS to exist how it does today, let alone something like the USL as well. MLR will get there it will just take time, and I think like Soccer, Rugby is a more international leaning/oriented sport and as such I think Canada definitely plays into those plans. So I wouldn't fret.

Depends, it's still a young league that is growing, top players earn enough for it to be a full-time profession for sure, especially ones with international caps. But the average player I think only earns between like 10-20 thousand a year so I'm sure a lot of them have other sources of income from either sponsorships or second jobs.
Awesome 👍😎. Any country can be good at this game. It's just a matter of time before the US becomes a serious challenge for tier one sides like South Africa England Ireland New Zealand and so on.
