I was six at this time and the 1998-99 seasons were the two that hooked me too NASCAR. But I remember watching this race and I was just dazzled by the lights and the cars running around Daytona at those speeds under the lights. And the TNN crew with Eli Gold, Buddy Baker, Dick Berrgern....who I belived relpaced Glenn Jarrett for that race brings back memories.
TNN must have been in a real hurry to show some country music videos, because they never showed a replay of the Chad Little wreck. We got to see the start of it, Gordon crossing the line, then the end of it. Thanks for sharing! This was going to be one of my next race "reviews", but I may just go ahead and do mine for fun, anyway.
@Ruddfan1997 Surprisingly no, because with him on TBS and TNN, I became used to it. Buddy Baker is weirder, he talks with marbles in his mouth and words come out as if Meatwad from Aqua Teen Hunger Force was announcing a Winston Cup race!
ok that would make sense because it looks like he is driving and oakwood homes sponsored car, and that was Petree's busch sponsor at that time. thanks!
yeah, I know! At the '09 Daytona 500, Dale Earnhardt Jr. apparently forgot about that rule. I really think racing would be more exciting if that rule was eliminated. I don't see the difference at daytona compared to other tracks that are allowed to go below

You should thank the capper and the TBK user who posted this, unless it was you. Good vid. I haven't seen this one in a while.
Me too. Then I started taping races. I was 6 and it was late 1998-early 1999 when I really got into it big time.
That race was in October, not July, due to being postponed due to wildfires. It was supposed to be on CBS (first race on prime time).
Chad Little was the last driver to race the Ford Thunderbird (which was legle in 1998) , but wrecked it as you can see.
I just recently re-watched the clip, and it seems that the car lost speed before it hit the wall; that's why the crash was not fatal (in the clip).

Pepsi 400 will return to cable in 2007 on TNT
I wish the lowline rule was gone, the racing was awesome with ppl flying to the apron

Does anyone else think its weird to hear Dick Bergreen doing color commentating?
It's at the end of the video

I think it is.
"43 started, 42... OH CRASH" lol ironic

i actually liked TNN's race coverage...ugly hit there for the 97
