They're not adding jobs to the SUV factory (which is in Texas) they're adding jobs in Flint, Michigan where they make the Silverado and Sierra pick-up trucks, and which are best sellers, no matter what the price of gas or the economy.

SUV‘s to me are the same as the truck, high up in the Air - lots of room inside and plenty of loading space . and I love my SUV I could care less if the gas goes up or down. I LOVE THE ROOMIE- NESS. Nuff said
Take care of your vehicles, and perform the proper maintenance; scheduled & preventative.. Follow this simple rule and EVERY vehicle is good and reliable. I've owned any number of domestic & foreign vehicles, and have never had any major reliability issues with any of them. Toyota, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Pontiac-- they were all great vehicles that never gave me any mechanical issues. I followed the service schedules, and that was it. Lots of people beat on their cars, and only service them when a failure has rendered their vehicle un-drivable. Do you know how many people never change their oil? Way too many.
The full size GM SUVs are gas guzzlers but they are known for lasting a really long time. Hopefully GM perfected the Dynamic Fuel Management system which replaces the horrible Active Fuel Management but only time will tell if it’s good or not. Predicted reliability of the Dynamic Fuel Management is really low.
@@atx-cvpi_99 I wouldn't classify them as gas guzzlers at all, even my generation. The K2s get over 22 MPG @ 75 MPH fully laden with 420 HP. Competitors don't come close.

two turntables the wagon was killed by Federal fuel-economy standards. The SUVs are classified as trucks and are exempt from them. SUVs wouldn’t exist if the Feds hadn’t meddled in that way...
I’ve heard these SUVs are going extinct for 25 years and they are still around. People with money want the comfort and space for their families. People who need to tow with a car full of luggage and kids need them as well (that’s why I have one). They are making them more fuel efficient and also starting to transition to electric.
My 97 Sable shut-off after I landed in a pothole on the highway, it wasn't starting or cranking. I paid a lot to tow it just to realize that there's a safety shut-off switch in the gas tank, and it can activate to prevent fuel from reaching the engine when you're in a collision. You just need to reset it as a circuit breaker (my car has it behind the fuel nozzle in the trunk). Maybe that's what happened to the Mercury Grand Marquis.
People looking to buy these don't care about gas mileage any more than a Ferrari or Corvette buyer. If you can pull the trigger on buying one you can afford the gas it likely will be more efficient then previous models anyways.
The only thing I want from GM SUV's is the 5.3/6.2 engines. Just remove the cylinder deactivation and stop/start crap and you got yourself a racecar engine.
My dad was Mechanic and Scotty is the Man when it comes to common sense on repairs , quality , trends good or bad. Unrivaled for Anything Automotive. Many of which I know are fact.
It is very sad that GM with so many iconic brands are not paying attention to long term strategy. Why can't they get good, wiser decision makers and maybe get a think tank to help them in strategies?
8:00....To the point of trying to find a 90s VW....I drove a '98 Jetta for about 5 years until 2003....I considered myself lucky because only the alternator and ignition coils needed replacing. But I never see those cars on the road anymore. Maybe Handouts for Heaps took some of them off the road prematurely, but I think that still says something about their viability.
I really love your channel. It's so entertaining to watch how to work on cars and receive opinions from an honest mechanic who's worked on cars for a very long time. I'm glad you worked on them for almost 53 years.
Nobody offers anything like a big suv such as the suburban or expedition . I have a family of eight and nothing can haul the people and all the cargo of a large family . They make them because the sell them all . Sounds like smart business to me .
We've been on the SUV bandwagon before. . . then gas hit $4/gallon and used lots were chock full of SUVs they couldnt give away. These companies phasing out cars. . they're gonna be screwed.
My coworker got a 2020 GMC Denali back in December, and the truck has been in the shop more time than he has had it. Poor guy, I told him to listen to Scotty but obviously didn’t listen.
My 1987 Delta 88 (bought used) went 225,000 miles. It was a replacement for the 1969 Econoline van with 340,000 miles that had too many trips to the transmission shop and had too many rear axle bearings replacements. It also had no air, something that is needed in the south. The wife's 1988 Fleetwood was towed last year. Shop guys didn't know how to get it running. She bought it used when the 1978 Corvette wasn't reliable transportation. In 2003 I bought a new LeSabre that now has over 100,000 miles. Good car. Gave it to my daughter and bought a used 2012 Equinox that has needed only new tires, and do my own brakes. I also replaced the two VVT solenoids myself after a CEL code. The Equinox is good because it 1) is easier to get in and out, and 2) it provides a better view of the road ahead. Most drivers are looking only at the next vehicle in front of them.
2015 suburban for my family hauler, over 50k on the odometer. No issues, just regular maintenance. Tows whatever we want and is great for our yearly road trips.
To the guy who had a slight bump. I’m a recovery driver and on some cars there is a fuel cut off switch which will do exactly what your car is doing. Read the car’s manual find out where it is, press it and try start it. Hopefully it will work. I’ve recovered many of cars that way.
That's the second time I've heard you mention your grandfather's Cadillac with the straight eight. I'm racking my brain for any Cadillac ever that had a straight eight.. Pontiacs yes,,, Buicks yes,,, Packards yes,,,, but Cadillacs,,,, I can't think of any...
@ 6:10 inside the trunk of the Mercury on the left there is a button to reset the emergency system after a collision. Apparently after a collision the car stops gas from being sent to the engine so the vehicle won't turn on (some kind of safety feature on those fords) Try that and see if it starts.
These things aren’t built to last. It’s a joke compared to the longevity of a Sequoia. If the price is good, it’s worth to but it. But if a car salesman pushes this used at 50k saying it will last a lifetime, walk away.
In 2021 my brother bought a 2019 GMC Yukon XL Denali with 48,000 miles. He paid for the extended warranty for 75,000 miles of coverage. Thank God he did. This has been one of the worst vehicles he has ever owned. It is always at the dealership for "check engine" lights and running rough. The dealer cannot seem to find what is wrong with it. They turn off the engine light and five miles down the road it comes on. The dealer is just limping it along, until it goes off warranty and then is my brother's problem. They want to trade it in, but the dealer has no new vehicles. My Mom's cousin also bought a newer suburban and is full of electrical gremlins and no start issues(they ended up buying a older model suburban and parking this one, because they don't want anyone to get stuck with their lemon). My Mom's best friend has a newer Tahoe and it has "no crank" issues at times and the dealer cannot find what's wrong with it. I would stay away from newer GM Suv's at this time. This is like GM with their vehicles from 2007 and newer when they were cheaply building vehicles right before the great recession in 2008. When we bought our 2009 chevy 6.0 3/4 ton pickup the transfer case failed at only 7500 miles. :(
Scotty I'd be with you on this except for the following fact: 2021 Suburbans get 23mpg on the highway, and the 3.0 diesel gets 27. Tahoe too. Thats pretty good. Something has to roll down the road and the 70k golf carts are not a desirable product for anyone.
Thanks for the video Scotty:) How about Toyota/Lexus...many large SUV's with terrible gas mileage. I still buy them because of their reliability saves me lots of money and has the best resale value. Point is Chevy has some other problems too.

Scotty, I disagree. 1) GM is investing a lot of money and resources developing electric cars for the future. 2) In the short term GM is meeting the customer demand for SUVs. They are providing the product customers want. (Just like you stated Toyota does). 3) Oil prices are NOT going up in your or my lifetime. U.S. oil producers have developed advanced techniques to recover oil in ways never imagined before. The US is now the #1 producer of crude oil in the world. We now have hundreds of years of obtainable crude oil reserves in this country. When oil prices approach $60 per barrel, US producers bring more rigs online increasing supply, driving the prices back down. When oil prices drop below $45 per barrel producers take wells offline, decreasing supply, driving prices back up. Oil prices between $40 to $60 per barrel are here to stay.

But besides that it’s been perfectly reliable. So Scotty is there any thing you have to say about that or do you think will have more problems if so what!
the Mercurys and the Crown Vics from that era have a fuel safety interrupt switch when they are hit it shuts down everything - especially when hit from the rear - check that first.
@Karen Emery Because the general public was bitchin' about fuel economy, yet not opting for the diesel Excursions which gets over 20mpgs with the V8 7.3s and 6.0s from Powerstroke. Instead, the masses got the Gas V10 6.8 Liters and Gas V8 5.4 Liters.
Because of the low cost of debt in recent years and the "debt tax shield," many companies learn that they can make a lot of money by leveraging themselves a lot, and have few negative consequences (in the short run).
TO THE GUY THAT ASKED ABOUT THE PASSAT: If you get the 2015 TDI model it will come with a 11 year (until 2026) and/or 162,000 mile limited warranty that will cover anything that shows up on the OBD2 scanner. My wife has a 2015 TDI Jetta and it is covered by the warranty because of the "dieselgate" thing, the car has been perfect and hasn't had any problems but it only has 17K miles on it. I also have a co-worker that got a 2015 Passat TDI and she has a 2 hour round trip commute for work and she absolutely loves it and hasn't had any problems after about 75K miles. My wife had a 2006 Jetta TDI and we traded it in with 180K miles and it never had any problems other than front wheel bearings at about 170K miles cause she doesn't slow down for speed bumps. Hope that helps! Cheers!

even big suvs are getting better mileage and more efficient every generation. who knows the next generation after this new one might be a legitimately efficient hybrid. i mean the new 3 liter diesel suburbans are probably going to get 30 mpg highway. which is just as good as my current commuter car. if they simply stop production or reduce it , they will make less money which would be less money for future R&D..... you cant expect to see increases in technology and mileage with out a source of revenue to research it. GM makes most its money on full size trucks and SUVs. and GM is already heavily invested in electric technology R&D with the new hummer being proof they they have been on board for the past few years already. i guarantee you they are already designing electric and hybrid full sizes for the next generation which would probably be released around 2026-2028...

The full size GM SUVs are gas guzzlers but they are known for lasting a really long time. two turntables the wagon was killed by Federal fuel-economy standards. The SUVs are classified as trucks and are exempt from them. SUVs wouldn’t exist if the Feds hadn’t meddled in that way...
Damn 😆
I’ve heard these SUVs are going extinct for 25 years and they are still around. People with money want the comfort and space for their families. People who need to tow with a car full of luggage and kids need them as well (that’s why I have one). They are making them more fuel efficient and also starting to transition to electric.
"your daughter is insane" hahahahahahaha hahaha 😄😄
i think is weird why those big companies wont think smart and improve quality .thats the only way to win customers
4:04 Hundred bucks says your daughter fills the diesel up with regular gasoline.
The way gm sees it, once it's off the assembly line it's your problem.

People looking to buy these don't care about gas mileage any more than a Ferrari or Corvette buyer. If you can pull the trigger on buying one you can afford the gas it likely will be more efficient then previous models anyways.
No doubt though that American companies like Lincoln, Dodge, and Cadillac are putting out some really cool cars right now!

That is a wise decision Toyotas are better!
It is very sad that GM with so many iconic brands are not paying attention to long term strategy. Why can't they get good, wiser decision makers and maybe get a think tank to help them in strategies?

I really love your channel. It's so entertaining to watch how to work on cars and receive opinions from an honest mechanic who's worked on cars for a very long time. I'm glad you worked on them for almost 53 years.
Nobody offers anything like a big suv such as the suburban or expedition . I have a family of eight and nothing can haul the people and all the cargo of a large family . They make them because the sell them all . Sounds like smart business to me .

Buying a GM vehicle is like giving someone an extra bullet to shoot you after they missed the first time.
My coworker got a 2020 GMC Denali back in December, and the truck has been in the shop more time than he has had it. Poor guy, I told him to listen to Scotty but obviously didn’t listen.
Mine have all run good
My 1987 Delta 88 (bought used) went 225,000 miles.

2packs4sure I learned to drive in a 1953 Buick Special with an 8 in line engine.
@ 6:10 inside the trunk of the Mercury on the left there is a button to reset the emergency system after a collision. Apparently after a collision the car stops gas from being sent to the engine so the vehicle won't turn on (some kind of safety feature on those fords) Try that and see if it starts.
