  • we're taking a solid look at the newest 4 cyl engine in the VW line up, and why the 1.4t is the next great swap for classic water cooled VW's. It's a great, compact engine, and once some of the issues are sorted out, will make a potent powerplant for a lot of small cars and trucks where the ABA is being used currently!

    I have a 1.4t in my 17 Jetta and it hauls azz. For some reason torque feels better than the 1.8t I test drove. And my gas mileage is really good when I don't drive like a maniac. Overall I love it

    Props for breaking ground on a new option for conversion - I've just seen that you have some vids on the wiring and will be watching those next! If this engine can make a Tig feel perky it should make a mk1 dance!

    i can see this being very intresting for a Mk4 as well. like daily and stuff. espeicaly if a 02A 02J can hook up. matter of making a side engine mount. and a front. and should be good to go.. then only finding a way to get this running loom wise. deff gonne follow this to see how that department goes!

      the software is a little more complex and is going to require some hard work to get the car running error-free.

    Still watching your video, but man, I've been wondering this same thing! I've got a mk1 Jetta in need of a new powerplant and I'm wondering if the 1.4T is going to be a nice option that's also LIGHT enough to be appropraite for the platform. Gonna watch now🍿.
    EDIT: Oh cool, you're in my neck of the woods! Just watched your Datsun video where you rode over to Vashon to pick it up.

    chances of fitting this in a polo 9n? I've just started with modding and been reading buckets and am genuinely mechanically curious. If the idea is dumb would equally be happy to learn why. Im a late car bloomer (started driving at 32). My first car was a 2003 polo 9n and Im to sentimental to get rid, so I want to pimp the crap out of it.

    • @ThrottleGrotto
      @ThrottleGrotto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would presume that it would fit well since there is already a 4 cyl engine in the 9n polo

  • @PieterKuijk

    I've been asking myself for years if someone would do this swap. It is a really nice engine. I think the bigger engines are way too heavy for a mk1 golf. It handles superior with a light engine. Seen some 1.4 16v ALH swaps with carbs putting out more than 150hp. But those engines are harder to find these days and become more expensive. They use the 084 box which is kind of weak for this application. Being a ea211, it has the same footprint as the ea111 engines. Wouldn't it work to use the ea111 engine mounts? You would have to use 085 gearbox because the ea111 ea111 platform is tilted forward.

    • @ThrottleGrotto
      @ThrottleGrotto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible that those engine mounts would work. You'd have to have a set in hand to see if it was possible. This cost me about $50 for the passenger side one, and a bunch of my time. Plus, using the 02A mounts and gearbox I already had made it easy to locate the engine in the bay.

    • @PieterKuijk
      @PieterKuijk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThrottleGrotto yesterday I watched your latest video on this project, good thinking! Subbed to your channel, I really want to see how this comes together. I realise you are in the states, so you never had the small block (ea111) engine in the golf. The 1.0, 1.1, 1.3 are. From the 1.5 JB up are the big block (ea827)
