@@antimatter2380 - if you look into the backstory behind that song, it was inspired by a time when Steven Tyler was at a nightclub and they were checking out a "girl" from behind thinking about hitting on "her", but when "she" turned around it was Vince Neil from Motley Crew.
You definitely need to give it another listen and pull up the lyrics. There were clues all the way through. "In a dark brown voice, she said Lola." "I can't understand why she walked like a woman and talked like a man." "Girls will be boys and boys will be girls. Even the description of the setting foreshadows the twist at the end. The champagne tastes like cherry cola, they dance under "electric candlelight"...nothing is as it seems. Especially Lola.🤣 Such clever lyrics. I love the subtle line at the end about how the protagonist had just left home a week ago and had never kissed a woman before. Because even after his encounter with Lola, he still hadn't kissed a woman.

The clues start right away - electric candle light, champagne that tastes like Cocal Cola, in other words nothing is what it first appears to be, including the lady so strong she nearly broke his spine, and who walked like a woman but talked like a man.
This was inspired by a true experience their record manager had in a club in Paris and his chance encounter with a Special lady, that’s all I’m saying 😉

@@kingcosworth2643 The original lyric is “coca cola” they were forced to change it. Here is an explanation: Written by singer Ray Davies, Lola is about a relationship between a man and a “woman” who turns out to be a transvestite. But it wasn’t this gender confusion that worried the BBC. The song was banned for including the words “coca-cola” which was against their policy on product placement. This is a master class in "dodging the censors". The few things that give away the "secret" can be explained away, or missed entirely. "I know what I am, and I'm glad I'm a Man, and so's Lola". Well, Lola is also glad he's a man. I mean she's a woman, so... 🧐 "When she squeezed me tight, she nearly broke my spine". Well, she's a passionate lady, and she works out... "She picked me up and put me on her knee". Like I said... she works out... 🤨
You keep saying “in my youth” and in my head I keep hearing the Led Zeppelin song Good Times Bad Times “In the days of my youth I was told what it means to be a man” great song check it out!!

I loved this song when it first came out, I was just about in my teens. It was hilarious when the penny finally dropped, the whole song had been throwing out clues from the start. Over 50 years later it still makes me smile, fortunately this never ever happened to me... although I definitely remember some strange women...
in1970 when this song first came out it was band from many Radio stations because of the songs content a lot of the Radio stations refused to play it the subject matter in it was a taboo back then not like now days I'm loving it that you totally missed the meaning of this song that's the best part of this Reaction
Definitely needed the lyrics playing on this one. That last verse: "Well I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man And so is Lola"
I had Herman's Hermits I can take or leave your loving - the flip side was "Marcels" which covered the loose genderisation of parts of the London "dropout and free love" scene quite well.
i dont know what a trans person is exactly but i know what a transvestite is. i enjoy petersons and rawlings push back on transvestites of today. not like transvestites of the past. they have been around since the beginning
Ray Davies said he was inspired to write the song after their manager spent the night dancing in Paris and discovered he had been dancing with a cross dresser all night
But Lola could be glad he (the singer) is a man. The wonderful English language which does not demand that every thought and action is specifically appealated to one specific person at any one time, allows for all British Farce and comedy. (The man with the wooden leg called Albert ,- really what was the mans name ?. etc)
"I know what I am, and I'm glad I'm a man, and so was Lola." The genius of that line is that although it could have meant that Lola was also glad this young guy was a man BUT what it actually meant was that Lola was also a man.

Ha ha!!! 😂 Reading these comments made me laugh! I never knew this was what this song was about!! I’ve heard it before and sang along w/ the Lola’s! But it was never one I played. Loved the reaction tho!! ❤
To be fair there were only about 6 Clues. LOL(A)...."Nearly broke my spine" "Put me on her knee" "Girls/Boys" "Asked her to dance and took HIM by the hand" "I pushed her away" .."I'm Glad I AM a MAN and so IS Lola( ambiguous)...etc
Still waiting for that light bulb to go off!!! LMAO!!
This song got a ton of radio time back in the day. This is a little longer version but brings back memories. Thanks for doing this one
The "went over his head" meme is perfect for this reaction! BPis all about the lyrics but missed this one!
This is a master class in "dodging the censors".
The few things that give away the "secret" can be explained away, or missed entirely.
"I know what I am, and I'm glad I'm a Man, and so's Lola".
Well, Lola is also glad he's a man. I mean she's a woman, so... 🧐
"When she squeezed me tight, she nearly broke my spine".
BP gotta make a reaction video of him reading these comments!!
Honey Im 20 some odd years older than you. With how the world has changed since this song came out I would've thought you would get it. Most of us got it right away even back then.
Please come back and let us know you hot it. We were all waiting for it. Are you tired today? You usually get it.
A beetle is a bug, The Beatles is a play on the word musical Beat.
I swear I remember that they got the idea for the name of their band from Buddy Holly and the Crickets.
OMG how could you have completely missed it????😂😂😂😂😂
When I heard and sang with this as a teen, I didn’t understand the lyrics. As an adult when the light dawned it blew my mind. There are a lot of songs that have stories that I now get as adult but this is the most blatant one.
you're a good sport for not deleting this, a true honest guy.
When I was a boy this song came out
I had no clue what it was about
When I became older I understood it
I just liked the riff
The live version is even much better!!
I also love ' Waterloo Sunset'. ❤❤
Thanks for giving some attention to one of the best bands ever!!😘🫶👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Was waiting for you to catch on but didn’t happen, lol.
🤣🤣🤣it did go right over your head!! I’m a man and so is Lola… still my daughters father-in-law who is in his 70’s has always been a fan of the kinks , when I said about who Lola was his jaw hit the floor…😂😂😂😂
Sitting here waiting for that light bulb to come on... you gotta listen to it again! 😂
yeah, I guess I just don’t think like that so I was totally lost. Might have to revisit this one. 😂
Once you "get it", you'll know why the song didn't exactly vibe for you. 😉
Hey, being born in ‘85, it took me years. 🤷🏻♀️ You grow up just singing along with the chorus.
😂😂😂😂😂Im lmao cause when I have put this song on for guys in the past they never bother to listen to the lyrics and just sing along then I would point out whats up then they got shooketh from the reality absolutely love it and as usual you rock😍🤙
Wow, I've never seen lyrics go over somebody's head in such an extreme manner before!! LMAO!!
I love this song! The story is surprising. Still a great song. One on my forever playlist. Ummm..
They we both guys as I understand it. Okay, with me. 🎉🎉
I’ve watched many reactions on YT to this song. It’s really fun. I was surprised that he didn’t get it.
Oh, young man, listen again. Good song though~! Thanks for an entertaining reaction, loved it~!
I loved this song when it first came out, I was just about in my teens. It was hilarious when the penny finally dropped, the whole song had been throwing out clues from the start. Over 50 years later it still makes me smile, fortunately this never ever happened to me... although I definitely remember some strange women...
Listen again to the very LAST line.
You mean the last word of the chorus
brother you amaze me, your innocence is appreciated
I am dying over here. Halfway through and you mentioned a girl like Lola. Wait until you hear the whole song.
Priceless--you aren't the first to miss the punch line at the end. Glad to see others helped clue you in. A classic tune!!
It’s a true story happened to their manager
Damn man. I was 14 years old when this came out and I knew exactly what he was talking about the first time I heard it.
BP, look up the lyrics! Your missing key imformation!😮😮😮😂😂😂
It went right over his head. Lol 💜
in1970 when this song first came out it was band from many Radio stations because of the songs content a lot of the Radio stations refused to play it the subject matter in it was a taboo back then not like now days I'm loving it that you totally missed the meaning of this song that's the best part of this Reaction
I'm sure you never had a woman like Lola , listen to this song again very close ,lol
Definitely needed the lyrics playing on this one. That last verse:
"Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola"
Best song ...shocking when we were young and really listened to the wording...the end ! A shocker back then !
I had Herman's Hermits I can take or leave your loving - the flip side was "Marcels" which covered the loose genderisation of parts of the London "dropout and free love" scene quite well.
Absolutely a great band and good song. They broke barriers!!!
Love the Kinks! Look at Sunny Afternoon ☀️
Dude, that's so sweet, and I always reckoned life should be just like you took this song. Big props to you!
It's almost like trans people existed before Jordan Peterson and JK Rawlings started to bash them for clout.
i dont know what a trans person is exactly but i know what a transvestite is. i enjoy petersons and rawlings push back on transvestites of today. not like transvestites of the past. they have been around since the beginning
"I'm a man and so is Lola" :) Best reaction to this song ever. Thumbs Up!
Lol! I'm dying! Lola fooled you too !!
I love reactions when the reactor figures it out during the song. The look on their face is always hilarious
"What did I miss" - THE SONG
My year 9 science teacher, Mr Zola, hated when we sang Zola, Z O L A, Zola. We got what it was about back in the '80s.
Weird Al did a parody of this song called Yoda. It is really good.
Not initially getting the lyrics just shows it was a genuine reaction.
Ray Davies said he was inspired to write the song after their manager spent the night dancing in Paris and discovered he had been dancing with a cross dresser all night
"I'm glad I'm a man....and so is Lola".....right over your head bro. Listen to the song again and you will hear the clues!
But Lola could be glad he (the singer) is a man. The wonderful English language which does not demand that every thought and action is specifically appealated to one specific person at any one time, allows for all British Farce and comedy. (The man with the wooden leg called Albert ,- really what was the mans name ?. etc)
Lola's a bloke you spanner 😂
Got to be english or aussie.
This is from the 60’s, these guys were way ahead of the times. These songs hold up though the years!
"I know what I am, and I'm glad I'm a man, and so was Lola." The genius of that line is that although it could have meant that Lola was also glad this young guy was a man BUT what it actually meant was that Lola was also a man.
I f...... loved this reaction - waiting all the way through for the light to hit you and you were so close
I’m seeing all these posts to look up the lyrics. It took me years to understand this song, and my mom actually telling me to listen to the lyrics 😂it’s still a cool song! I love the “Cherry Cola” lol 😂 I love how they sing Lola too ❤it’s a pretty cool flow that goes together. ❤
They had to change the line to avoid being sued
Lmao! I was waiting.... and ur going on and on.... missed it "dog" still laughing, but also still love you!
Hahaha, gotta be careful about some of those attractive women that hit on you, BP. Might get a little surprise... then again, could be a big surprise! 🤣🤣🤣
Yessss! I haven't watched for awhile. I love you finally did this
