Great fish. I have 2. The female is about 5.5 inches. The male is maybe 4.5 inches. I bought 2 when they were maybe 2 inches. They have actually breed 3x. Great fish although it seems the female is more sociable. Someday im going to set up a larger tank and have about 10 in there. Better cichlid than the more popular angelfish. Very easy care too.
@xThaVietx - both cichlids and gouramis are members of the perch family, so they are distantly related. I do agree that their flatter body shape and their pronounced pectoral fins make them look very "gourami-like".
Its a very fine black sand, well more grey to be honest. The festivums were showing a lot of aggression at the time, have moved a few fish around and things have settled down again....
240 litres, not so much stress marking as aggression markings, the 3 were battling each other at the time. Some people think festivums are very placid, this is not always the case and they can be very aggressive towards one another, they were probably all males? They have since been moved on.
I've never heard of those. I would imagine they were probably male. I work at the local pet store in my town and have for four years and ive never hear of or seen an elliotti cichlid.
They are actually Elliotti cichlids, and no they were fine together, but as you can see the festivums got a little nasty together when mature, probably all males?
I have festivum with oscars and gourami. Living together peacefully. This fish doesnt need to be in pair. Single is so well with them

Nice tank. I just ordered some Festivums to keep with my discus. Did you have any issues keeping those firemouths with the rummy nose tetras?
