「夢メッセみやぎ」に押し寄せる津波

仙台市・宮城野区にあるコンベンション施設「みやぎ産業交流センター(呼称:夢メッセみやぎ)」を襲った津波の様子を捉えた映像。
最初の映像は、震災当日、偶然現地に居合わせた仙台放送の局員が撮影。
イベント開催中であった夢メッセみやぎには、たくさんの人々が来場しており、地震直後、余震も起こる中、混乱する展示場の様子が映し出される。撮影者も、上層階へ避難するよう、施設関係者から促される。
続く映像は、夢メッセの職員が避難場所から撮影した映像。
地震発生後、多くの人々が同センター会議棟の屋上に避難。
避難を呼びかける大きな声が発せられる中、カメラは、センターの東方、仙台塩釜港方面に向けられる。
遠くまで見渡せない悪天候だが、数百メートル先の埠頭(仙台港フェリー埠頭ターミナル)まで、徐々に白波が押し寄せてきたのがわかる。
埠頭を越え、目前の駐車場が浸水したと思ったのもつかの間、波は、みるみるうちに車という車を押し流し、会議棟の方に迫ってくる。
信じられない光景を目の当たりにし、絶叫や悲鳴がこだまする。
激流と流されてくる車がぶつかり、施設内に林立する鉄柱(旗の掲揚ポール)は、次から次へとなぎ倒され、瞬く間に、会議棟の周辺一面は海原と化した。
会議棟に隣接する大きな展示棟も、建物の中に、どんどん水や車が注ぎ込まれ、そして別の出口や破壊された壁面から放出される。
建物の周囲を覆っている大きなガラス群が、音を立てながら次々と割れていく。
北側の屋外展示場付近も、濁流にのまれ、おびただしい数の車や、がれきが目の前に浮遊する。
騒然とする人々を施設内に置き去りにしていくかのように、波は、ひたすら内陸へ向かって流れていく。
そして最後の映像は、再び仙台放送の局員が撮影した映像。これも、避難場所である会議棟の屋上から津波が引いていく様子や、津波のあと、現地で発生した火災の様子などを克明に捉えている。
Footage: Tsunami attacking convention center, "Miyagi Industrial Exchange Center" in Miyagino ward, Sendai city. The first footage was recorded by a staff from Sendai Broadcasting who coincidentally happened to be at the scene on the day of the disaster. There are a crowd of people at Yume Messe Miyagi where an event was taking place at the time. There is confusion in the air just after the earthquake, amid aftershocks. A facility employee prompts the beholder of the camera to evacuate to the upper floors.
The following footage was recorded by a Yume Messe employee from the evacuation site. Subsequent the earthquake, many people evacuate to the roof top of Yume Messe's meeting room building. The camera points to the direction of Sendai Shiogama Port, to the east of the facility, as loud voices in the background warn people to evacuate. Visibility is low due to the stormy weather, but white crested waves gradually push closer, a few hundred meters away on the wharf (Sendai Port Ferry Dock Terminal). Climbing over the wharf, the parking lot is instantly flooded before our eyes, cars pushed away and approaching the meeting room building.
Facing an unbelievable sight, shouts and screams echo all around. A rapid current crashes into a floating car being washed away, and iron poles bristling within the facility used to hoist flags are knocked down one by one. In an instant, the surrounding area of the meeting room building became a part of the open sea. Next to the meeting room building, the exhibition room building is doused with water and cars, discharging them from a different exit or destroyed walls. Panels of large glass covering the periphery of the building loudly begin to break one after another. The northern side near the open-air exhibition area has also been swallowed by turbid waters. Debris and copious amounts of cars are afloat in front of our own eyes. The waves single-mindedly try to reach inland, leaving those people within the facility behind in a tumult.
The final footage is recorded by a staff from Sendai Broadcasting once again. It also captures a detailed visual of the tsunami leaving the roof of the meeting room building (evacuation area), and a fire that broke out at the scene after the tsunami.
