In addition to all the things you’ve mentioned I think this watch has some of the best looking numerals on any dial I’ve ever seen. My wife doesn’t understand me but when talking about a grail piece I think this is mine. Forget about the Daytona, the Nautilus, RO or any perpetual calendar or minute repeater…this VC is pure class 👌
If i saw someone wearing this watch, I would instantly know that the said person had class, and humility. That's a combination you don't see very often. Something Rolex or AP could never achieve.
@@Steve-fx6ej Ah, come on, crossdressers always get offended very easily, I respect everyone. Just kidding, I will buy an Invicta if that makes you happy ;-). Have a nice weekend.

Just pure class. My best watch is a 1985 Omega Seamaster Quartz, that I received for my 21st birthday. One that I cherish. The 1921 is way out of my reach, but absolutely love it. Thanks for a great presentation. Paul.
Thanks for that detailed review. Not only about the watch itself but also about what it will do. I adore the 1931. I think it is functional and elegant. I’m wearing a sector dial watch for the last few weeks, and I love it. It is so pleasing to the eye without being fancy, and it make me feel like I’m connected to the past. It is as legible as a field watch and has the charisma of a reverso. And as a bonus it a strapmonster. The watch can change from dress to swatch-playfull just by changing the strap.
it is a beautiful watch! simple yet daring. even though its a simple dial design, the numbers are very different and look amazing! this watch will be part of my collection...someday...
If you are considering this watch, do your best to try it on. I assumed the 40mm would be too big, being a non round case, but I had the opposite reaction trying it on. I felt it wore smaller than 40mm, which made the 36.5 seem quite dainty for myself 🤷♂️
@@LocalWatchGuy wouldn't disagree. I was convinced the 40mm was too big without trying it on was my main point. Had I never tried it, I'd own the smaller one and be none the wiser.
Excellent video etc. VC make superb watches, great to see a different design being executed so well. The VC boutique in Melb is great, got my Overseas there just on 2 yrs ago. Melb is growing as a great watch city.
Awesome video Andrew! You clearly couldn't hide your love of this watch, and nor should you. It's that good. I've been thinking hard on getting the JLC Master Control calendar chronograph, but this watch - granted a lot higher price point - has me reconsidering. One of the best looking watches I've ever seen...hard stop.
Love it!! Cheers Andrew!!! Great learns and cheers for sharing - it is so special and with the amount of watches you experience… it’s incredible how big an impact this watch had!!!🎉🎉
A beautiful watch Andrew! I’ve got quite a good collection of WW1, 1920’s through to WW2, 1940’s watches. A 1920’s watch I have is identical in case design as this but in normal orientation. The case though is only about half that size, being of that era. Another watch I have has the 12 o’clock at the 3 o’clock position. I know in particular pilots would have the lugs re-soldered to wear around their thighs to make the watch a lot easier to read whilst flying or I guess in a dog fight! I can definitely see the immense appeal of such a piece. Cheers from central Victoria!👍🏼😎
Good to have another Aussie (and Vic, too) watching! Yes, this case shape was popular from the '20s, such a golden era for flamboyant and interesting design. Cheers 🙌
I own it in Rose. I love it. Classic and elegant. My friends who love watches always want to try it on and comment that "it looks good on them". Obviously a stunner dress watch, but I wear it casually as well. I also purchased used excellent condition with box, papers, and warranty at significant discount.
love this watch and I've had my eye on it for some time. it's a grail watch for me. so unique and not something that you see everyday. rolexes, AP's and all those hype watches are so boring in comparison.
Great video and great watch, thanks! Do you know why the seconds subdial has a different orientation? If I am not mistaken, in the original version it was also rotated as the main dial, so I assume that they had some reason to change that in the modern version.
I have been obsessed with this watch since its debut. But sadly it's out of my price range for the style of watch. LONGINES Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935 allowed me to scratch the inch for a reasonable price. Yes, it's not exactly apples to apples but it was enough for me.
I love the original version of this, so seeing VC update it is splendid. However, the sub-seconds dial is not properly aligned with the rest of the dial, and it deviates from the original design....womp, womp...guess my grail will have to be an A. Lange & Söhne instead!
I don't understand why VC did this, as you say the original watches had the seconds aligned with the dial, aligning with the case makes no sense to me at all.
@@dunderhay9169 The only reason I can think of is that someone there did not want to create a 1-to-1 reissue, thus they made a small alteration. But these types of details make great differences in the dial's appearance.
That's a gorgeous watch and you're supercool BUT strapping the watch upside down on your wrist in the "driving position" is inviting scrapes and scratches.
Wristwatches began life as pocket watches and they simply soldered lugs on them in order to put them on the wrist during the first World War so they didn't really have much time to get into the politics of how to wear them a watch like that was easier to read with the dial on the underside of your wrist (given the juxtaposition of the movement having once been in a pocket watch ) as apposed to wearing it knuckle side up. Instead of holding your wrist across your chest as you would to read a modern watch instead you would hold your arm palm facing you upright.

There is the 36.25mm version that would help mitigate the issue of heft/size if you think the 40mm is too large
40mm for him 36mm for her.

Is there a functional rason for the 60 on the small seconds marks are not aligned with the 12 on the hour mark?
Good question, I'm positing it's a design decision, but will confirm one day when I ask Christian.

Will this be suitable for a 14.5cm wrist size?
I really wish that VC does a steel version of this watch, I will definity buy it.

reminiscent of a Longines piece. Which came first?
Fair question, off the top of my head, Longines aviation watches in the 30s featured an angled dial, but would have to dig up the very first.
Have a couple of glass Grey Goose on the rocks, and you will be fine with the orientation mate 🍻👍
😎 accurate
I own the 36.5mm version. I have a 17cm wrist. Considering upgrading to the 40mm version, but I am afraid it will be too large.
40mm would be too large. 36.5mm is better even for a wider wrist than yours.
Love VC...AP is a one trick pony
Helluva trick tho
Which size was this?
The 40mm
Andrew, you realise that 45 degrees from traditional 12 is 1:30 right? It’s not 2.

💯
Love it. This is my grail watch. One day, one day.......
Surprised you would ever wind a watch on the wrist as the stem can be damaged.
More likely to manipulate crown for time setting but never advised on wrist
You should've worn a hat, and had it at a jaunty angle, then you would've felt naturally comfortable with the angle of the dial.
Flat because its ment to be worn on the flat underside of the wrist..
Somehow I see this as a highend and rotated version of Panerai Radiomir :D
Would I be interested? I'd sell my soul for it but nobody wants to buy it (((
You should never wind your watch on the wrist anyway. Can't believe you do that.
It's interesting, but while I can appreciate it, I would never wear it - just not my style at all.
Fair enough Dave, you do you.
Too big, even for your wrist. There is a 37mm version that looks miles better in proportion.
You missed the most important point, it has a 40mm and a 36mm so it can be paired for a couple.
Mentioned that in the first one I think but should have again!
@@Timeandtidewatches I love that possibility in watches for a couple.
