Alive Or Just Breathing is my favorite metalcore album of all time. But I can’t deny that Fall Of Ideals is a certified classic too.
I'm partial to This Darkened Heart or one of the later As I Lay Dying albums, but The Fall of Ideals is iconic

The best metalcore album for me is probably Jane Doe by Converge, although despite its label as metalcore it sounds like a completely different genre to me. “We are the romans” by Botch probably comes in at a close second, although again whether you’d class that as metalcore (as opposed to math metal or something else) is up for debate.
The fall of ideals is top 5 metalcore of all time for sure. Check out The Air That I Breathe! Such a sick track.

That’s an epic album. The double bass in that song is beyond incredible. Still have to hear Chiron and Six from All That Remains.
In your own time, look at the “This Calling” drum track so you get a better idea of how beyond crazy his playing is.

I’m glad you did the lyric version because everyone else reacts to the music video and because it was associated with the movie Saw it’s a little gore-y and everyone acts all squeamish instead of listening to the music.

Me too. 2006, they opened for Drafgonforce. We were there for ATR, though. We met Phil outside after the concert. Dude was just standing there having a smoke. Nice guy.
Phil Labonte was the original singer for Shadows Falls the album they recorded with him is called Somber Eyes to the Skies but on that album he did all of death metal style vocals ... Then he either quit or got fired and started ALL THAT REMAINS and their 1st album was called BEHIND SILENCE and SOLITUDE

As a passive-aggressive metalhead who lives in an area where country music is super popular, whenever I used to be in a parkinglot or gas station where someone was blasting something annoyingly twangy, I used to crank my speakers and then throw this on as I drove past, haha. That opening scream worked wonders lol
Empty Inside is my favorite off of this album, you should give it a spin The drummer is Shannon Lucas. Hands down one of my all time favorites. He only appeared on this album with ATR, but his best work was with The Black Dahlia Murder for sure.

R.I.P. Oli, had the pleasure of meeting him once after a concert. The band wasn't doing pics or autographs but Oli came back out and hung out with a few of us for a couple minutes and took a few pics and stuff. Super nice guy!
Six by ATR was my first metal song that sent me down this amazing journey of metal. I was in 6th maybe 7th grade. I had to get this album, and for me, every single damn song on there was absolutely amazing. You cant go wrong with any song.
Love and appreciate ATR to a degree I cant explain in words. My first CD I bought with my own money. Bro I am so happy you listened to them. Love this.

ATR released some phenomenal material back then. The Fall of Ideals is more commercially accessible, but This Darkened Heart is their best, in my opinion.
They had a few sub-par albums in a row in recent years, but their latest release is a return to form.

@@kellendobmeier9876 I personally enjoy Fall of Ideals as an album more than any of their albums. I'm a tiny bit biased because it's the first metal album I really enjoyed. But yeah the songs are really balanced and produced well for once. This Darkened Heart sounds a little rougher. Really heavy though. Overcome was starting to veer in a more melodic direction but I thought it was still well balanced.
