    As long as thrifted items cost more than ones selling in the shops, thrift shops will never take off in SG. After experiencing true sustainable and pocket friendly thrifting in US, Canada and Europe...this is really disappointing leh. Seems like the shops just want to make a profit from it being "vintage" or "one of a kind" lol

      Some of the shops they went to I wouldn’t call thrift stores , they’re “vintage” , and more expensive bc they’re curated rather than wholesale. Have u been to lucky plaza or even some newer shops at queensway shopping centre ? There are some small shops scattered around Singapore run by charity organisations that are truly “thrift” stores, way cheaper.

      @@midnightat3am are there any that you would recommend, especially for guys? even the obvious ones like Salvation Army can charge 15 for 1 t-shirt these days!

      @@hilmir I mean there's functionfive thrift shop, they offer shirts from $5, sometimes u can even get free clothing items, seems to dominated with t-shirts and pants, I would say it's fitting for both guys and girls regardless

    • @hilmir

      @@jayneyeo3560 yeah they are one of 3 in sg functioning closely to actual thriftstores. the only test is sustainability over time, and also expanding their base. right now, the main customers are students who cannot afford to constantly buy new clothes, but want changing looks. it should not be a targeted business, but an alternative for anyone who wants to thrift across all age groups and social status.

    • @jayneyeo3560
      @jayneyeo3560 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hilmir I think the reason why it is a targeted business for now is simply due to how thrifting has only seemed to pick up recently among the younger demographic, I feel like it isn't as common practice among older generations at this moment. But, I do believe that eventually it could branch out from just targeting a young demographic and build a loyal customer base. This is just my two cents though, I still get what you mean in the end.

      I find the quality at Fleawhere at Scape is consistently very high, and quite cheap also (in the evenings, a lot of sellers will price to clear). But mostly women's clothes

      A random thrift store in the US, you can get actual vintage oversized tees going for USD 2 to 5. SG thrifting is kind of a scam..

    • @Naomi-fb1ej
      @Naomi-fb1ej 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@hilmir i have to agree... SG thrift scene doesn't really have many vintage items that are not imported from overseas. Personally I'm not necessarily looking for vintage just stuff that's cute and also cheap/ecofriendly which is why I shop secondhand.
