Next time you have to put a hole in a strap, try using a soldering iron. The old school kind. It will melt a clean hole and it's safer than using a drill. Love your videos!

I really like the repetitive “lesson learned “. We are always learning. It’s what we do with the lesson the keeps us going and alive. Thanks for teaching us from your hard knocks.

100% agree with you about learning lessons from previous experiences, I've done pretty much the same to my fishing kayak as you did here Dan, I also carry a paddle float inside my PFD, using float bags is perfect for jamming gear to the hull of the kayak, sharing such important information makes us better equipped when disaster strikes.. knowledge is power.. Great Job Dan. 👍

I've found a great way to put holes in a strap is to heat a nail with a torch and melt a small rip proof hole.

Thanks Dan. This is a great video and so helpful. Based partly on your suggestion (video), I bought a Dagger Axis 10.5 kayak last week for flat water, moving water up to and including Class 2, and for photography and fishing. It's a great kayak that is amazingly stable with primary and secondary stability. However, it has a huge cockpit. So I did place two float bags in the bow. Based on this video I'll put another for the stern hatch with maybe a strap over.
So...this is my question. There is no thigh brace pad in the cockpit leaving too much space with no contact. I have called several companies and it appears they are out of thigh braces so I'll have to carve some out of foam. So...could you make a video outfitting the Dagger Axis 10.5 for rivers and maybe even ocean surf. Many thanks. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.

I have the same bilgepump! The BilgeMaster by Aqua-Bound really is the best pump around. Helped me the other day by quickly and easily emptying my sea kayak’s cockpit. Btw great mods, next time around you shouldn’t be having that hard of a time.

FYI, for future hole making on strapping, just use a hot nail and be sure to add brass grommets

Sometimes we don't know what we don't know until we know what we don't know and then we know better. Simple yet highly effective upgrades/mods. Very nice Dan. Would those NRS bags raise the stern of my fishing yak a little? I know, weight loss would too, butt lets not go there.

If you think about it, the only thing that's there already, before the bags go in, is air, so all the bags do is keep that air in place (rather than it being rapidly replaced with water) if you take a tumble. They can't add to the buoyancy of an upright kayak - in fact their (miniscule) weight would make the stern imperceptibly lower in the water :)

What kayak/ paddle would you recommend As the easiest paddling kayak. Something useful in water regardless it’s it’s choppy or flat water. I am looking to buy a kayak I can use in bay/gulf. Primarily for just enjoying a cruise the water. Thanks

I have a 10-ft Jackson traverse. I don't feel connected to the boat so I'm contemplating on changing to a 9 ft. The dagger katana is available the question is for a crossover boat all in all which ones going to be better performance, comfort are my biggest to concerns. Any recommendations thank you

I found a good deal on a Katana, but I don’t live near whitewater. Is the Katana also good for flatwater, or will it track poorly? For the price I’m looking at, I could also get a Feelfree Aventura which might suit my needs better or pay a little more for a Moken 125. I’m wondering what you think though.
