My gear is State of the Art ......for 1995. The new gear, even the inexpensive gear, is pretty fantastic. If I was going to buy anything new, I would follow your suggestions. (1995 top end rod from Orvis or Sage was about $500; now it is about $900- $1000 Back then, 4-piece were very rare)
I’m looking to get into fly fishing and I’m looking for a dependable, good quality combo that I can have for years to come. I’m debating the Redington original or the Orvis encounter. I’m not sure which one to go with. I will mainly use this just for trout fishing And streams. What do you recommend. From what I’ve been reading 5 weight and 9 ft are the standards for that?

The Orvis stuff is awesome, you’ll love it!
Very helpful video!!
Haven’t seen many videos of you on the fly rod. Would be cool to see more fly fishing videos.
My fly videos in the past haven’t performed well, which is why I usually keep those trips to myself. Maybe I’ll post one this year!
Great video. Which combo would you recommend if i want to do river mouth fishing?
For most rivers a 9 foot 5 weight will do fine
