Once we got out of the 70s we lost the rawness and innocence in music

Here's a comment! This song is my favorite fm song. I have yet to meet a single person who has EVER heard it. I'm glad I left my dad's tusk album playing long enough to hear it. I listen to it at least 50 times a year. This version is obviously an early one and honestly it's not that good but it's always the same reason. Stevie. It's hard to believe how bad she is live. I hate to say that. I really do. Lindsey's part in this version is very good. I love how he never sounds bad and never seems to play the same way twice. Ty for sharing

No comments? Holy cow. This is a historic first time live performance of Sisters of the Moon, one year before it even appeared on the Tusk album. No comments? Wow. I had this on audio cassette for years but lost it when I gave away my cassette collection. I'm thrilled to find it again. It's truly archival.

+DaveMcdon Thanks for the first one. I love this early raw version... don't know why, but people just don't seem to comment on videos as much as they did a few years ago. Out of close to 3,000 views, only 24 even bothered to give it a thumbs up. Doesn't stop me from posting gems like this!

+DaveMcdon I saw them in Atlanta in August 1978 and they sang it last. I think it was before Baton Rouge but I have to check the unused ticket. Stevie was pretty messed up but it was AWESOME, even better than this one. This one is great though!

+Anne C. Yes, you're right, and also Aj below. I did a google search and found July 30 Philadelphia, Aug. 29 Atlanta, and Aug. 30 Baton Rouge all featured "Sisters of the Moon" Live. I couldn't find a complete tour date list. It would be great to figure out when and where "Sisters" actually was performed live for the first time.

I was there, feel in love with STEVIE THAT NIGHT, waited for her to come out in a white Limo with her big hair blowing in the wind. . I had black eyes next morning from binoculars fixed on her all NIGHT.... great post, THANK YOU.

Actually saw them perform this earlier in the summer at the Cotton Bowl Jam 2, in July, I think that might have been the first time they ever performed it live, hell of a show, this was an encore!

I begged my parents to take me to see FM on this tour in 1978 when I was 9 year old - saw them in Saratoga Springs, NY that summer and this was one of the encores that night. I'm almost 50 now and still a bit obsessed! love the draggy drugginess and extended guitar solos of this version. fabulous!

I was 16 in 1977, living close to Louisville, KY. A friend a few houses down, Diana, told me she had bought tickets for Fleetwood Mac at Freedom Hall. I said "Fleetwood Mac Sucks!" I was busy seeing Led Zeppelin, Rush, Nazareth, Yes, Ted Nugent, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Aerosmith, Heart... you get the idea. I had only heard "Rhiannon" on the radio and considered it commercial fodder, nothing more.
The 17th of September came around, she called me bawling her eyes out, saying she had no one to go with (Diana was 14) her parents would trust, she was going to miss a band she loved, and she had already spent the $15.00 on two tickets. That was a lot of money in 1977! So I said yes, I would take her. She even gave me gas money for my '73 Mustang Mach I. So off we went, and I figured it might be boring but I really had nothing better to do.
It's hard to describe what I experienced at that show... I have never been more surprised by a band that I "didn't like" in my life! Completely blown away. They were "on" that night, and it was clear that EVERY person in this band was extremely talented. It was also clear there was magic in the air... you knew it was something special. I remember Stevie singing "Rhiannon", it had little in common with the radio track I had heard. It built with Stevie's incredible vocals and Christine McVie's keyboards, until she started yelling and screaming out the ending lyrics over Lindesy's guitar. I'm sure my mouth was hanging open. She gave it everything she had... I remember spittle flying from her lips and thinking how sexy it was, and how Stevie was so in the moment that she didn't care. I've never seen or heard anything like it, before or since.
I also remember Mick Fleetwood doing an insane drum solo, which turned into him running around with huge "bongo drums", arms flailing and eyes bugging out! One of the best concerts I've ever seen, and I've seen a few.

Indeed. I guess the band decided there's no reason a sisters song can't rock some socks off (and the roof off). Not that this version doesn't rock, but the versions in later years rock way harder.

I love that Lindsay sings the bridge which he didnt do on the Tusk tour. He did it again on the Mirage tour. Thank you so much for this. The quality is great and the pictures are perfect. Interesting how the last verse is not the " so we make our choices when there is no choice...". The studio version doesn't come close to the live versions although the remastered Tusk CD with rehearsal version is really good. Thanks again!!

I think this is one of the Mac's best... thanks to Stevie. Captures the drugged out culture of rock and roll at that time. Powerful. Punches you in the gut and wraps you in velvet all at once ;)

I've been a fan of FM ever since my brother bought the Rumours album when it came out in 1977. I was into Genesis, Yes and the like and didn't think I would like this but I absolutely loved it and Stevie's voice blew me away. I love this version because it is so raw and real and reflects what the band were going through in this particular chapter of their life through the performance of the song. Very emotive. Amazing.

Walter Egan of "Magnet and Steel" fame (a song probably written about Stevie) was captured by this song and was playing it a lot live on his tours during the Rumours era. In introducing the song he often said it would appear on his next album. Lindsay and Stevie appealed to Egan not to record it . . .so that it could go on the Tusk Album. . .and become the gem that it is . . .

Terrific job with the photos; all appropriate to whichever section of this gem of Fleetwood Mac’s best songs performed they show up in. Love Lindsey’s vocal interlude as well as his playing. Had I only been cool enough to know anything about The Mac back in 1978 and had convinced a cool family member to take me to their JFK show, my rock n roll life would be complete. The Philly show coming up with Finn and Campbell filling in for Lindsey is something I am excited about but can’t possibly bring back the hard rocking glory of the Rumors/Tusk era. So happy to hear this version and see all the great photos! Btw, I’m also a big fan of the live version on the 82 Mirage tour. They rocked hard and had that druggy Led Zeppelin vibe for sure. LZ-lite! Far Better than the Eagles

If I could listen to only one version of this, it would be Stevie's solo piano demo. It's not intense, like with some live versions. But her voice sounds perfect accompanied by only the piano. It is posted here on TH-cam: th-cam.com/video/lTvWfP2uizE/w-d-xo.html

  • @robvanderliet1828

In all frankness, this is a great deal less "intinse" than during the Mirage tour performance.
