  • JRock and JSmooth teach Ticking and Strobing. The difference between Popping Ticking (contracting the muscles), Bopping Ticking (using dimestops), and Strobing (an effect to create the illusion that someone is moving in a strobe light using dimestops) and Tick Waves.
    Variations of Mixing the techniques.
Popping Ticking was created by the Electric Boogaloos, Ticking Will from Fresno was the first to be known for it, later Popin Pete, Skeeter Rabbit, and PopNTaco took the style to the next level.
Bopping Ticking was created by Boppin Andre and inspired by the music box dancer in the Movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Strobing's creator is unknown, but was made famous by dancers such as Flattop, Mr Re, Boppin Andre, Phax and more.

This is really good. I've been dancing for 2 years now, and recently got a slump of being repetitive in my dancing since I don't know enough techniques and moves in popping and robot. This video was a lifesaver for me to see different waving styles, different popping/robot techniques, and overall different angles to try. You guys are amazing. Thanks so much!!!

This is a fantastic tutorial on the different styles from two of the most knowledgable poppers out there. Mad thanks to both for differentiating between the minute differences that make all forms of ticking look so sick. The more you know the better you can use the style and mix it with others

I like how a drama post motivated you to do something constructive. This is a big reason why I stick around the popping online community, often the animosity can be a good motivator. There is a lot of good info in here (and good execution as well, nice job guys). Personally I take a slightly different view on these related styles. I see them all as variations on stop and go movement which differ based on how you tweak a few variables: 1) frequency of stops, 2) amplitude of movement, and 3) use of vibration during movement or for reverb effect. You play with those dials and you can get the styles you mentioned or a bunch of other possibilities. I think which approach one takes is a matter of how they learn best and what their goals are with the dance.

in Apple Keynote/MS Powerpoint it’s called Slide In, Slide Out, and Bounce. In React Native that's the ease() function. When they are all unchecked technically it's a linear move (same speed from start to stop, no bounce).

What I don't get is where Jrock says strobing is faster than bopping. Jrock does bopping on every half count of the beat. If you want to stay on the rhythm of the music, and strobing is faster, that should mean that strobing is twice as fast as bopping, it can be just 'a little bit faster', like Jrock says, you would be off beat. But then Jsmooth demonstrates strobing on half counts of the beat, so that means it is not faster than bopping, but the same. Does Jrock mean smaller instead of faster? Or does it mean that strobing is only good for certain fast part music? Like where he says you can vibrate. But vibrating is totally different from strobing. Or is it? I heard once that animation or sinbading is technically in between strobing and vibration, cause you're catching quarter beats. You could vocalize that by saying one-nuh and-uh two-uh and-uh three-uh and-uh. Etc. Which is which?

    • @jethrorahajaan1030
      @jethrorahajaan1030 3 ปีที่แล้ว

So, on the same beat this would be:
Single count: one two three four (popping, dimestopping, roboting etc)
Half count: and one and two and three and four (ticking, bopping style ticking, strobing?
Quarter counts: and uh one uh and uh and two uh and uh three uh and uh four uh and uh (animation, Sinbad-ing)
      Uncountable: trrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (vibrating)
      This correct?

get a transplanted kidney I promise I will post a video... I have been
popping since 1980... I am from the old school yet, here in the Midwest
we just have a different style of tick that I would love to show this
dancer free of charge because I like his style and his way of dancing
just like a few others I see on the internet.. It is a shame sir that
you haven't been able to see many of us unknowns... Please let me
introduce myself... My dance name is "The Dazzler" aka "Sir Poppalock"..
" The super adaptoid of dance... I would take your style, flip it and
bring it back to you with my own flavor... However, Now I just want to
share what I know to keep the art and the love of dance flowing... Thank
you again for commenting on my post.. Keep in touch please.. Thank
      you...

Damon Henderson Thanks for your response sir, understood! I've noticed that there's a lot of "Unsung" pioneers out here that were lockers, poppers, etc from that time (70s - 80s) that were smooth with it it too. I could tell that by those nicknames "The Dazzler" & "Sir Poppalock", you were a serious popper back in the day. Hope you get well soon, thank you for your response!

Theres no ticking waving its only ticking n double ticking is called three d style its a combination of all 3 ticking waving in animation style . These want to change or make their own because we all know robotic style is the foundation to the other or any style branch one can apply. Thats why when they run out moves they use robot moves when in fact u can use the wave n pop when we mean pop it means u ll heear or feel ur bones pop thats why its called popping. If i wave n pop there wont be no pause in my move so i can pop unlimited n destroy the opponent without a sweat nor getting tired why. ...? Because i m doing right. .. these style i d easily destroy them with one move

PayMan some DO both. To me, the best teachers are the ones that have actually won battles, championships, been on stage, on shows, etc. Same for anything, if you study the greats and are a great student, you become a great teacher. I do both. Popping isn’t one of those things you just talk to explain...you have to show it. You should check my lessons on Vimeo On Demand I have over 15 hours of lessons and content. With solo demos for each lesson. 😉

What you call strobing we called moving sinbad was animating as was bugs bunny
