I’ll stick with my All-Clad 5D pans. I’m just one person, so I don’t need a cookware set. I buy a pan as I need it, and I needed a new skillet. I’ve used my All Clad 5D stainless steel nonstick fry pan 3 times so far. I love it, food glides around the pan, and I don’t need to put much olive oil in pan. I finally figured out how to get more caramelization on onions, cooking them longer. Cooked shrimp with onions, garlic, and organic baby Bella mushrooms. The vast majority of my cooking is done in carbon steel or cast iron, and these are preferred, but they are heavy, cannot handle acidity, and will be destroyed by strangers who don't know how to properly care for them.

I just purchased my first set of quality stainless. I like to cook but for years I used nonstick. So much lost time. Purchased members mark tri ply after much research. Should out last me at this point.
The best set is one that you create yourself. Most of my stainless steel is Belgique and that has taken a lot of abuse in 30+ years. The rest are Cuisinart and Vigor. Testers grumble about Merten & Storck carbon steel but I like it the best and has nothing to do with the $26 price. I have little restaurant cooking experience as the majority of my cooking career has been in public soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Toss in some catering jobs and that sums it up.
What is your opinion of commercial grade stainless steel used in Vigor cookware used mostly in restaurants? Good for home kitchens? Like to see a review some day.
I have some of their products in my restaurant. I purchased them from Webstaurant Store. They’re utilitarian you can beat the daylights out of them. The bottoms are clad. They are not terribly cheap as a set. Have you ever use them?
Unfortunately that Kirkland set is no longer available. I would lean more towards the higher end legend set as a better set. The Kirkland is better than the lower end set.
The more affordable stainless steel looks like a great set. I’m gonna look into them and see if they sell separates. have an old Marco Pierre White 3.5 liter quart pot that is stainless steel with a very thick copper ring around the bottom. It’s not a disc of copper, it’s more like a thick band of copper. I think it’s discontinued. It’s a heavy pot and it cooks beautifully. Copper definitely is superior to all other metals for cooking, but I really don’t enjoy lifting heavy cookware and copper is so $$$. I saw a video from the guy on the Prudent Reviews channel who did a review of their fry pan and he showed his pan with the handle that came off. It popped off when he picked it up one day. He said they sent him another one and he thinks they fixed the problem, but I wasn’t surprised. Riveted can be a hassle to clean around but heavy pots and pans need them. There is a high end brand whose name i can't remember that has the rivets underneath a sheet of metal so you don’t see them. I'm scared to buy any enameled pots or pans from China over lead fears. I didn't know their stainless steel can be dangerous also.
@@AwareHouseChef I meant to say Prudent Reviews reviewed the Demeyere fry pan. Sorry about that. I'm surprised such a thing would happen to such an expensive pan also. I am leaning more towards the stainless steel for sure, but I want to do some more research and see if there is a sale. I've heard that the best time to buy cookware is May and June due to June weddings and brides having it on their registry so I will keep checking.
Most likely because it would be incredibly expensive if it was solid stainless steel. Manufactures have figured out a way of adding certain metals into the middle of stainless steel so that the heat distribution is better and more efficient. This is proven to be a huge plus when you’re dealing with induction it is definitely not something to avoid. But you should avoid what they call a clad bottom because those are a sign of an inferior set of stainless steel cookware. Hope that helps! All the best!
ikea actually had a really good set we bought years ago for 100$, you can still buy the individual pots and pans. good solid construction, works with electric, gas, or induction burners. and none of it is showing any wear. definitely check them out. you dont need to spend a 1000$ for good cookware. all these yuppy stores selling a pot or pan for 500$ make me laugh, and dont even get me started on the sets, jesus lol.
So when you quoted the manufacturer stated Safe operating temperatures of tested Cookware ranging from $375-500-600 degrees i hit pause and Googled Melting points of Aluminum & Stainless Steel and saw 1200° for Aluminum and 2500° for Stainless steel..... which is Far Beyond what Home Stoves/Oven's can reach... And Also What the Hell is Anyone Cooking at such High Temperature for say longer than 10mins ??
I think the reason why it is dangerous is because people forget stuff on the stove. Then they are hesitant to throw away the cookware, unaware that they’ve leached toxic metals into their home, and out of their cookware because these Pieces of cookware, they’re not made with pure metal. Also, broilers can reach temperatures at least into the 900°F range in a home.

Thanks for sharing. They’re both well made. I’m surprised that the handle popped off. Let me know what you end up with. Cheers
Why do stainless sets have different material "cores?" Do all stainless sets have this? Should I avoid it or is it a plus?
Most likely because it would be incredibly expensive if it was solid stainless steel. Manufactures have figured out a way of adding certain metals into the middle of stainless steel so that the heat distribution is better and more efficient. This is proven to be a huge plus when you’re dealing with induction it is definitely not something to avoid. But you should avoid what they call a clad bottom because those are a sign of an inferior set of stainless steel cookware. Hope that helps! All the best!
Im having a hard time finding good 430 18/0 nickel free stainless steel cookware ... ideally fully clad and 3mm in thickness
ikea actually had a really good set we bought years ago for 100$, you can still buy the individual pots and pans. good solid construction, works with electric, gas, or induction burners. and none of it is showing any wear. definitely check them out. you dont need to spend a 1000$ for good cookware. all these yuppy stores selling a pot or pan for 500$ make me laugh, and dont even get me started on the sets, jesus lol.

LOL - the 5 ply is now 599,00, so much for the video's 199.00 price tag!
Haven’t checked but I believe it. Things have doubled since I released that video. I hope something gives. All the best.
CyberMonday deal is $494 for the 14pc SS on Amazon; No sale on the 14pc Copper Core: $999. I've been waiting to see if the Kirkland CC would be back, but after seeing this, I think I can give-up on that now. There is a members only price for the All-Clad 14pc Copper Core set thru Costco: $1,349.99. I believe I like the selection of the All-Clad set better. The price... not so much.
I’m going to give away my age a little.
The problem with some of the younger people is they think they can buy their way into being a good cook.
The age of instant gratification.
Sorry but it ain’t gonna happen.
Part gift, part discipline, lots of time in the kitchen and some descent equipment. No way around it.
@@AwareHouseChef I think a desire to be the best and always improve is key to being a good cook.
This whole series on cookware reminds me of people that buy 800 dollar fishing reels and rods.
Don't buy junk but you don't have to buy the most expensive thing out there either.
Our first set was magnalite and I still use it almost daily.
That stuff wasn't cheap either but we got it on sale in the early 80s.
I am looking to buy a kitchen set my budget is between $200 & $350 please help me buy the best cookware stainless steel set for my money
It is thought to find quality stainless at that price. Your best bet would be to buy individual pieces at a store like Marshals or a really well maintained used set.
I don’t believe 304 stainless steel is the same as 18/10 stainless steel.
To the best of my knowledge they are used interchangeably in the industry.
Thanks for your reply, either way , I’m looking at purchasing the 5 ply, seems like a great alternative to the more expensive brands., really appreciate your review.
@flg5347 my pleasure! Cheers!
The 18/10 is 316 grade stainless steel
Oh man they discontinued the Kirkland sad face
I have seen other varieties. I think they are actually better in quality. Cheers
@@AwareHouseChefwhat do you recommend that is similar to Kirkland set? I need a new set for a family of 6. I cook a lot and need something affordable and durable.
Nontoxic?
Prices went up for legend,$100 more lol
That was then…
It's up to $999. now. 😢
🥲
Legend is way over my budget. Lol
Even more so now. 🥲
I would rather spend a little more money and buy Made in America pans than made in china. And I disagree with you that the workmanship is the same. Chinese made products are far inferior!!😅
