  • I visited the Cuyahoga County Library branch along Ridge Road in Brooklyn, OH before they closed on a Sunday afternoon. I remember the library fondly from when I was growing up, and I was surprised to see signage indicating that a new branch was being built down the road on Memphis Avenue.
I looked at the construction of the new branch, and then continued down toward Brookside Reservation in Cleveland to view the Cherry Blossoms in full bloom and a ton of people enjoying them. Filmed on April 7, 2024.

This is the library I went too when I was a kid too. I went there all the time.

Another great video. It's been years since I've seen those blossoms, it appears to really gotten popular. Years ago I recall just cars driving by to see the trees, now it;s in a nice park setting. Thank you to the Cleveland Japanese Committee for the donation of the cherry trees, and thank you to Poko Traveler for the video.

I am so glad your Mom took you to the library when you were little. Lifelong learning begins when we are children. Nice ride. Thank You. 📚

Eastman Library was the closest, but she took us to the Brooklyn Library and the one in Parma (a little past Parmatown) all the time! Now both locations will have been moved.

Some locals are saying that the Brooklyn City Schools will be taking over the old library building once the library moves. Unsure what they’ll use it for but the library was built on school property.
And they did redo the creek area a few years ago to make it more natural and to help with flood control purposes.
The plane was actually moved to that “new location” quite some time ago. I remember when it used to be behind city hall with a kids playground slide going over it. The 3” Navy guns were moved there last year, along with the veterans/remembrance plaques and info.

Thanks for the backstory of all three of those things! I just Googled about the current library location; I see what you said about it having been donated by the schools, but likewise couldn't see what it'd be used for in the future.

I enjoyed the video. I was born and raised in Brooklyn. You are right that the Brooklyn library used to be in that smaller building next door that is now a daycare. That even older location is the library where I have all my memories. In the late 70's through the mid-80's I would often ride my bike there to meet friends on a Saturday for some type of program the library was having for us kids. I remember watching The Hobbit animated movie there. One Halloween, us older kids also organized a haunted house for the younger kids inside the library. I also have bad memories of going there to do research for school papers with looming deadlines, lol.
The Brooklyn Historical Society is still active but I think they are only open one day a week. I remember that building when it looked like an old historical house. But probably in the late 80's, they expanded it and gave it a modern facade that no longer looks historical.
As SixbyFire already mentioned, the old plane used to be behind city hall. The new library is being built where city hall used to be. I have a picture of my gramma going down the old metal slide that used to be over the plane. The park where the plane now sits was also expanded a bit. The city bought the first house on S. Parkside and tore it down to make more room for the park.
Lastly, as SixbyFire also mentioned, the Stickney Creek area on Ridge was redone for flood control purposes. They restored the area along the creek all the way to Roadoan and Brooklyn Memorial Park. I haven't been there lately, but I think they added or improved the walking trails back in the park. Great video!!

That older smaller building was the library I also knew growing up! We rode our bikes up there and through the park. And the new trails in the park are pretty good. They’re paved and sort of wind through the area on both sides of the creek.

Thanks to you for confirming all of that context too, I love reading about the history!

I really enjoyed your video. I live in Brooklyn and you rode right past my building. That was cool . (Ridge/Southfield) I bet you will do another video of the library when it’s complete and open. Again good video. I truly enjoyed it.

Yes, that'd be fun to do a video of the new building! Although I also get a bit shy when I'm filming inside of quiet buildings, hence why I only snuck in about 15 quick seconds at the current location inside, lol.
