'If I didn't I would be a bad mother'...you're a bad mother already if you're that wealthy and yet your child isn't capable of getting in to the ivy leagues. I'm Canadian and went to a super prestigious uni in nyc on full scholarship. It was shocking how many entitled, lazy brats roamed the halls. Equally shocking was how uninspired the education was for what those brats paid, but it made sense: my profs had lost hope. They realized they weren't teaching gifted and engaged learners, they were just teaching nepo-babies.

The main issue is that the system is available only for rich people. Normal people cannot afford the tuition fee or drown in a life long study debt. It's not like stopping these schemers suddenly makes higher education an equal opportunity system. It's corrupt to the core.

Disingenuous interview. You could have had your daughter attend a community college and transfer to a 4-year university. An option for many new students unless you think that was an option that is not the more traditional elitist route. Many parents are faced with the same dilemma but don't break the law. Interesting, your daughter took the SAT's over without help and still admitted to an elite college. Can you explain that? Maybe you didn't have trust in your daughter to begin with to score well on the SAT's? Appropriate community service would have been to counsel parents and students on what not to do and provide the best options to get into college.

Agree with most the critical comments here. 1. She owes the FBI an big apology from her snarky comment that actually revealed they treated her the same as anyone else. 2. She and everyone like her actually assumes the privilege of wealth over the less wealthy who can’t afford to break the law…her daughter took the seat of someone who deserved admission by earning it. 3. The charity she is pushing has nothing to do with anything here except making victims out of those who are guilty of breaking the law. 4. USC and the other elects institutions should have faced criminal prosecution as institutions as well…their admissions programs are not clean.

The crime here isn’t that FH bought access to school and cheated other students; the issue is that she paid the wrong people and cheated the schools.
Schools have the right to admit students based on whatever factors they decide are most advantageous to their school and their goals. Academic excellence is one factor. Exceptional talent in music or sports are others. Exceptional financial generosity is another. If a school wants to admit a substandard student because doing their parents will pay for a new building or endow a new department schools have the right to make that choice.
Paying to get a kid into school isn’t a crime, but paying someone else (coaches and test takers, etc.) to cheat the school out of their ability to make those decisions is a crime. If you want to buy your way into school, you have to do the unfair thing in the legal way.

I know Felicity was scared because her daughter had learning challenges but she didn’t have to break the law. She chose to. She and her husband are white, rich, and famous. The last thing they needed to be worried about were their children having a future.
There’s a right college for anybody who wants to go, and a lot of schools have gotten away from looking at SAT scores because they know they don’t reflect students as a whole. Rick Singer also couldn’t dictate her daughter’s future. He’s not God.
Anyway, I’m glad Felicity at least took responsibility right away and showed genuine remorse for her wrongdoings. She’s better than Lori and Mossimo in that respect.
