In the sixties, the troll dolls were called Wishniks. Many had a long topknot ponytail. You were supposed to hold them by the ponytail in one hand, rub their belly with the other hand, and make a wish.
There was also a series of dolls called LITTLE KIDDLES. I had the KIDDLE Doll in the locket (LUCKY LOCKET KIDDLE) that could be worn as a necklace as well as displayed on a table.
I loved Liddle Kiddles! There were also animiddle kiddles - I had Dainty Deer and Tiny Tiger, and perfume kiddles that came in cologne shaped plastic bottles. I had Apple Blossom.
My daughter has her grandmother's original Barbie dream house. For a cardboard house it's actually pretty sturdy. She's the third kid to play with it and it's in surprisingly good condition.
The Tammy doll is Sindy. Pedigree Toys licensed Tammy from Ideal and brought her over to the UK and made her more British and changed her name. The dolls are identical and use the same molds. They both even use the same 'the doll you love to dress' tag line.
Well, that explains why Sindy looked so familiar. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that my Mary Poppins doll (1965) was made from the same mold as Tammy/Sindy.
As a child growing up in the 50s and 60s, I love this series!. My daughter grew up in the 80s, and I hope you will make an episode of these. ...Cabbage Patch Kids, Strawberry Shortcake, Barbies, Rainbow Bright, My Child Dolls. Ahh...these shows take me back to my childhood..how I loved dolls, (and still do). I am now buying articulated Barbies and Licca dolls for my grand-daughter! Also popular baby doll was called Thumbelina. Pebbles and Bam Bam dolls. Still have my Kissy doll, works too! Tressy had a knob or button on her back to adjust the hair length. Yes the dream house was cardboard. Remember having to assemble all the furniture from flat pieces. Thanks for the memories❤️
Oh, I was given a wig Barbie. I never knew she had that interesting outfit; I had inherited her from some family friends. I was quite young then, and the dolls did not survive me. They were played with until they disintegrated, though, so it's all good.

They also made several friends and a cousin for her.
Fun GI Joe fact: the popularity of GI Joe started to decrease in the mid or late 60s due to protest against war. They changed up their line for a moment and the action figures went from solder to like park ranger or something like that.

As for small dolls, there were Lil' Kiddles that were about 2 inches tall and came with their own house. The chatty doll I had was a Chatty Baby with dark hair, but she got thrown away when she couldn't talk anymore. I also had a GI Joe because I liked him more than Ken.

I was given my first Barbie in 1962 (I was 5 that year) and she was the red head bubble cut doll (I still have her). One of my favorites from the era is Peteena. One of the first, if not the first, anthropomorphic fashion dolls (a precursor to Pinkie Cooper). She's a poodle! Her ad jingle always gets stuck in my head. She was made in 1966 and has really cute fashion packs!

I had 3 of the 60's Barbie dolls all with plastic hair. I had 3 wigs, blonde, brunette, and black. Also the black stands, a black circle carrying case with a half zipper. My Mom was a phenomenal knitter and would knit the dolls little sweaters from spare yarn. The sweaters fit perfectly too. Then when I turned 12, my Mom told me to give them to my Godmother's first granddaughter. 😩
I have Kissy. I wanted her so bad. My mom told me I might not get her because dad was not working for his company went on strike. But I did get her! You press her arms to together where he hands meet and she kiss you. I still have her. Her body fell apart, but I have directions on how to use stretch cords to put her together again. I have also Tressy the girl with growing hair.

Tiffany Taylor (never had one as a child but now I have several), Dawn (still have my Dale plus everybody else now too, haha), both come to mind at opposing ends of the measurement scale. I remember getting my first Barbie, probably in 1963 or 1964. My dad bought it for me in Alexander’s department store. I got the gold lame cocktail dress and a gray fur stole. To be honest, she looked like a teeny tiny call girl. I loved her to pieces.

I had a Taking Barbie, brunette, from 1968, which I loved. I still remember the case she came in. Yes, she had cool friends, like Casey and P.J. and the Julia doll too.
I wanted Barbie so bad, my mom put her foot down, so I had Tammy who came out quite early and her sister Pepper. But grandpa got me Skipper and Tutti. I didn't have a troll, my friend had a whole bunch and my grandpa bought me a Moongoon, who was colored green with ruby hair definitely a knockoff. I had an early Chatty Cathy. My mom had a Talking Chatty and two lovely Vogue Burkett dolls. My cousins had a Giggles and a Kissy. My mom vetoed Chrissy. All my dolls got lost in several moves across country. But now I made up for that, and I have my family of 60s Barbies and friends, and I have Chrissy and Velvet and the AA Chrissy. And two early Chatties.

I had a doll in the 60's called Baby First Step. She was about 2 ft high with straight blond hair. She ran on batteries and when you switched her on she walked by kind of shuffling her feet. Good times!
Crissy is my favorite from the 60s by far. I love the face and body sculpts and the fashions! I'm most excited for the 80s edition because of the Teddy Ruxpin doll. I hope you include him on the list because he's super sweet and endlessly iconic. I know he's more of a Teddy bear but he had a sort of dress up element with different fashions and accessories that were made for him. Overall, he's my favorite piece of 80s memorabilia 🥰🐻
I preferred Sindy over Barbie during my doll playing years, 1979-1986 Sweden, because she had a more flexible body. Useful since my dolls were superheroes and other physical activities. I actually owned more Barbie dolls, though. 2 Sindys vs 4 or 5 Barbies. Barbie was considered fancier so I guess that's what adults preferred to get me for my birthday. Barbie cost around 200SEK mid 80-ies Sweden (4-5 restaurant pizzas, for comparison 😋), Sindy was maybe half that. I think Sindy got kind of caught in a spot where she was too expensive to get me when it wasn't a special occasion but too cheap when it was. I also had 2 off brand dolls of a different manufacturer (with flexible limbs like Sindy). She was like a head shorter then Barbie and Sindy, so I would have her be their little sister. Can't recall her name but I'm guessing it was some kind of a bargain bin version as it was a bit of an impulse buy on my moms part. So would not have been an pricey doll. I do remember both being ballerinas.
My mom's first American toy was a troll doll. My grandma came to the u s to work so she left all her kids back home in Mexico with her cousin my grandma would send clothes and stuff back to her kids and she sent my mom a troll doll with orange hair that was my mom's first American toy. The flatsy dolls I had one they were rubbery had a wire inside so you could pose the arms and legs I don't know what I did with her.
I agree with you Sindy reminded me of Tammy as well. The Christy doll i used to own along with Velvet, I think they were sisters. Christy was around 20 inches tall and Velvet was a little shorter. I used to have the twist and turn Barbie as well but sadly I gave Christy,Velvet and the twist and turn Barbie to my sisters and I never saw them again. I miss having them. Great video as usual! I have giggles!!! She’s the sweetest little doll she looks adorable in person and when you move her arms her eyes move left and right but if u slightly squeeze her arms she goes cross eyed which is adorable ☺️
I am excited for dolls of the 80s because that is when I was in my prime doll phase as a child. Some of my favorite Barbies! Angel Face Barbie, Twirly Curls Barbie, Crystal Barbie, Pretty in Pink Barbie. I am also excited to see and remember dolls I have forgotten.
A doll with a color-changing gimmick being advertised in a black and white TV ad gave me a good chuckle. They still did a good job indicating the color change given the limitations, but sure it hits different in a technicolor screen-filled 2023.
I got Tressy for Christmas one year around 1964/5. I adored her. You pulled out her extra hair from the top to style it then pressed a button (on her back or tummy ?) to get the hair back inside. Thankyou for this memory.
I washed my Barbies clothes in the washer and dryer and they came out nice no color problems white stayed white , I am going to wash 24 dolls outfits 1 is Sonny Bono white dress suit from the 70's I own since I got him and Cher for Christmas when I was as around 10 maybe less still have them his suit is black and grey blobs on White I'm 57

The Pee Wee doll of 1965 it was popular about the same time as the troll dolls.The Pee Wee doll was bout 3 1/2 inches tall and it was great fun to make clothes for them.
Wow those Barbie dolls that mimicked Jackie's style are so beautiful! I love an elegantly dressed Barbie. Sindy is another line that I find quite cute, especially her modern iteration (though I live overseas and they don't ship to me 😭). Licca-chan has quickly climbed the ranks to be one of my favorites, I'm a sucker for that old Shoujo face and all her cute outfits, she has me obsessed.
Giggles eyes look like that because she's suppose to be acting nutty. Her eyes could go left, right or crossed. I believe her head tilted too. Wow, u r bringing back memories 🎉
Oh what fun! Love your presentation! Slug-Bug!! That's one I haven't heard for ages! It was a car ride game based on tormenting your siblings and friends (are there any car games that aren't?). The idea was to spot a Volkswagen Beetle car before any other kid riding with you. Then you got to call out "Slug-Bug!" and punch a companion on the shoulder. You weren't supposed to punch hard but you know how kids are.... The things we did before cell phones or in car entertainment systems! Of course you could always play with your Barbie if your mom let you bring her along for the ride. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
OMG!!!! I've been trying for years to find out the name of Popi! I had this doll and loved actually making the clothes. I learned to sew not long after and that doll definitely was a great learning tool to teach about sewing and fashion design. Thank you!!
Does anyone remember Mattle's Sister Small Talk from 1967? She had a groovy dress on, with go go boots. I loved mine. And all the Liddle Kiddles, what fun they were. I had a Locket one with brunette hair, very popular in the late "60's. I also had Talking Barbie from 1968, which was probably my favorite! I still remember the case she came in, along with the Barbie tag on her wrist. I had Crispy too, which was fun playing with her hair, but I also wanted the blonde Velvet, which I never got. But I did have Mrs. Beasley! What can I say, I loved my dolls! : )
i'm loving this series!! i'm actually really excited for the 80s! i had a ton of handme down barbie clothes from then and often didn't even know which pieces went together, so recognizing the clothes & seeing what mattel thought went together vs what I thought is always so much fun!
Ive always cringed at those bendable legs that make that cracking sounds but now that i have degenerative arthritis in my 30s it physically hurts me to think of them 😂
Barbie was the first doll I remember buying with my allowance. 1960. Now I have many, many. Started collecting as an adult over 30 years ago. The first was like my original ponytail which is long gone. I actually won a Kissy doll when I was 10. Cricket, I think, was a character on a TV show. Slug bug was when you saw a vw, shout out slug bug.
Nice video. Ideal Tammy is not a clone though. She is actually a doll with a more wholesome look made by Ideal in competition to Barbie. Pedigree based their Sindy doll upon the same style as Tammy hence the similarities. I think there was some licensing agreement between Ideal and Pedigree. They even shared the same catch phrase, "The Doll You Love to Dress".
Tressy was an 11.5" doll like Barbie. Crissy and her friend Kerri were about 17" tall (I had purchased Kerri on sale when I was about 12 to use as a model for designing clothes and hairstyles). The dolls had 13" or 15" younger sisters as well.
I had a Popi. The wigs were soft plastic and worked well. The clothes were fun and really did work as advertised but they had a funny smell. The Barbie type body was a cheaper, thin plastic and just seemed cheap.
My mother had (and still has!) Crissy and Velvet dolls when she was a kid, and I admit, I kinda took a liking to them! When I was a teenager I used them as my audience during my piano sessions lol
You missed the Liddle Kiddles. They were small dolls, maybe 3 inches tall, some themed with little cars or airplanes, etc. My favorites were the jewelry themed Kiddles, dolls inside lockets or rings that you could actually wear. There were Kiddles inside perfume bottles that smelled like flowers, and a line of Kola Kiddles that came in soda bottles. There were fairy tale Kiddles and even a line of romantic couples like Romeo & Juliet and Robin Hood & Marian.
I used to have a blonde Swingy doll, with a pink dress. There may have been some orange too. Unfortunately, she was broken many years ago, but I just bought one recently, and it's great having a small piece of my childhood back again. Swingy has the absolute cutest face!

Yes, I had Baby's Hungry, whose mouth would open and close as she "ate" her pretend food. Until her D-cell batteries ran down - then she was pretty creepy until her batteries were replaced.
Great Video! Liddle Kiddles had /have quite a following. These mattel dolls were introduced in the 60s. (a bunch of kiddle klones came after their release) A few of the kiddles were reintroduced in the 70s and the 90s. Thank you for creating these doll videos💜

Mattel had two dolls that were my favorites back then; Dancerina (the ballet doll) and Tippy Toes - she rode her own bike!

I remember getting my first Barbie, probably in 1963 or 1964. My dad bought it for me in Alexander’s department store. I got the gold lame cocktail dress and a gray fur stole. To be honest, she looked like a teeny tiny call girl. I loved her to pieces.

I wanted Barbie so bad, my mom put her foot down, so I had Tammy who came out quite early and her sister Pepper. But grandpa got me Skipper and Tutti. I didn't have a troll, my friend had a whole bunch and my grandpa bought me a Moongoon, who was colored green with ruby hair definitely a knockoff.
I had an early Chatty Cathy. My mom had a Talking Chatty and two lovely Vogue Burkett dolls. My cousins had a Giggles and a Kissy. My mom vetoed Chrissy. All my dolls got lost in several moves across country.
But now I made up for that, and I have my family of 60s Barbies and friends, and I have Chrissy and Velvet and the AA Chrissy. And two early Chatties.

I had a doll in the 60's called Baby First Step. She was about 2 ft high with straight blond hair. She ran on batteries and when you switched her on she walked by kind of shuffling her feet. Good times!

Crissy is my favorite from the 60s by far. I love the face and body sculpts and the fashions! I'm most excited for the 80s edition because of the Teddy Ruxpin doll. I hope you include him on the list because he's super sweet and endlessly iconic. I know he's more of a Teddy bear but he had a sort of dress up element with different fashions and accessories that were made for him. Overall, he's my favorite piece of 80s memorabilia 🥰🐻

I preferred Sindy over Barbie during my doll playing years, 1979-1986 Sweden, because she had a more flexible body. Useful since my dolls were superheroes and other physical activities. I actually owned more Barbie dolls, though. 2 Sindys vs 4 or 5 Barbies. Barbie was considered fancier so I guess that's what adults preferred to get me for my birthday. Barbie cost around 200SEK mid 80-ies Sweden (4-5 restaurant pizzas, for comparison 😋), Sindy was maybe half that. I think Sindy got kind of caught in a spot where she was too expensive to get me when it wasn't a special occasion but too cheap when it was.
I also had 2 off brand dolls of a different manufacturer (with flexible limbs like Sindy). She was like a head shorter then Barbie and Sindy, so I would have her be their little sister. Can't recall her name but I'm guessing it was some kind of a bargain bin version as it was a bit of an impulse buy on my moms part. So would not have been an pricey doll. I do remember both being ballerinas.
My mom's first American toy was a troll doll. My grandma came to the u s to work so she left all her kids back home in Mexico with her cousin my grandma would send clothes and stuff back to her kids and she sent my mom a troll doll with orange hair that was my mom's first American toy. The flatsy dolls I had one they were rubbery had a wire inside so you could pose the arms and legs I don't know what I did with her.
The bendable knee Barbie was fun but the knees sadly broke fairly easily :(

The Christy doll i used to own along with Velvet, I think they were sisters. Christy was around 20 inches tall and Velvet was a little shorter.
I used to have the twist and turn Barbie as well but sadly I gave Christy,Velvet and the twist and turn Barbie to my sisters and I never saw them again. I miss having them. Great video as usual!

I have giggles!!! She’s the sweetest little doll she looks adorable in person and when you move her arms her eyes move left and right but if u slightly squeeze her arms she goes cross eyed which is adorable ☺️
I am excited for dolls of the 80s because that is when I was in my prime doll phase as a child. Some of my favorite Barbies! Angel Face Barbie, Twirly Curls Barbie, Crystal Barbie, Pretty in Pink Barbie. I am also excited to see and remember dolls I have forgotten.

A doll with a color-changing gimmick being advertised in a black and white TV ad gave me a good chuckle. They still did a good job indicating the color change given the limitations, but sure it hits different in a technicolor screen-filled 2023.

I got Tressy for Christmas one year around 1964/5. I adored her. You pulled out her extra hair from the top to style it then pressed a button (on her back or tummy ?) to get the hair back inside. Thankyou for this memory.

I washed my Barbies clothes in the washer and dryer and they came out nice no color problems white stayed white , I am going to wash 24 dolls outfits 1 is Sonny Bono white dress suit from the 70's I own since I got him and Cher for Christmas when I was as around 10 maybe less still have them his suit is black and grey blobs on White I'm 57

Tammy was taller than Barbie, about 13-14", taken from the Debbie Reynolds movie, and she had a whole family (fathy, mother, little sister, and I think two others).
Tammy came before Sindy. She was American. pedigree bought the rights to reproduce a very similar doll, Sindy.
The Pee Wee doll of 1965 it was popular about the same time as the troll dolls.The Pee Wee doll was bout 3 1/2 inches tall and it was great fun to make clothes for them.
Wow those Barbie dolls that mimicked Jackie's style are so beautiful! I love an elegantly dressed Barbie. Sindy is another line that I find quite cute, especially her modern iteration (though I live overseas and they don't ship to me 😭). Licca-chan has quickly climbed the ranks to be one of my favorites, I'm a sucker for that old Shoujo face and all her cute outfits, she has me obsessed.

Oh what fun! Love your presentation! Slug-Bug!! That's one I haven't heard for ages! It was a car ride game based on tormenting your siblings and friends (are there any car games that aren't?). The idea was to spot a Volkswagen Beetle car before any other kid riding with you. Then you got to call out "Slug-Bug!" and punch a companion on the shoulder. You weren't supposed to punch hard but you know how kids are.... The things we did before cell phones or in car entertainment systems! Of course you could always play with your Barbie if your mom let you bring her along for the ride. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
OMG!!!! I've been trying for years to find out the name of Popi! I had this doll and loved actually making the clothes. I learned to sew not long after and that doll definitely was a great learning tool to teach about sewing and fashion design. Thank you!!
Does anyone remember Mattle's Sister Small Talk from 1967? She had a groovy dress on, with go go boots. I loved mine. And all the Liddle Kiddles, what fun they were. I had a Locket one with brunette hair, very popular in the late "60's. I also had Talking Barbie from 1968, which was probably my favorite! I still remember the case she came in, along with the Barbie tag on her wrist. I had Crispy too, which was fun playing with her hair, but I also wanted the blonde Velvet, which I never got. But I did have Mrs. Beasley! What can I say, I loved my dolls! : )

i'm loving this series!! i'm actually really excited for the 80s! i had a ton of handme down barbie clothes from then and often didn't even know which pieces went together, so recognizing the clothes & seeing what mattel thought went together vs what I thought is always so much fun!
Ive always cringed at those bendable legs that make that cracking sounds but now that i have degenerative arthritis in my 30s it physically hurts me to think of them 😂

Barbie was the first doll I remember buying with my allowance. 1960. Now I have many, many. Started collecting as an adult over 30 years ago. The first was like my original ponytail which is long gone. I actually won a Kissy doll when I was 10.
Cricket, I think, was a character on a TV show. Slug bug was when you saw a vw, shout out slug bug.
Nice video. Ideal Tammy is not a clone though. She is actually a doll with a more wholesome look made by Ideal in competition to Barbie. Pedigree based their Sindy doll upon the same style as Tammy hence the similarities. I think there was some licensing agreement between Ideal and Pedigree. They even shared the same catch phrase, "The Doll You Love to Dress".

I had three or four Sindy dolls and the Sind house with working elevator. Good memories.
Tressy was an 11.5" doll like Barbie. Crissy and her friend Kerri were about 17" tall (I had purchased Kerri on sale when I was about 12 to use as a model for designing clothes and hairstyles). The dolls had 13" or 15" younger sisters as well.
I had a Popi. The wigs were soft plastic and worked well. The clothes were fun and really did work as advertised but they had a funny smell. The Barbie type body was a cheaper, thin plastic and just seemed cheap.
I still have my 1960 -61 ponytail and bubble cut Barbie,and most of the outfits.
My mother had (and still has!) Crissy and Velvet dolls when she was a kid, and I admit, I kinda took a liking to them! When I was a teenager I used them as my audience during my piano sessions lol
Chrissy had a little sister named Cinnamon. There was a marketing campaign to name her.
You missed the Liddle Kiddles. They were small dolls, maybe 3 inches tall, some themed with little cars or airplanes, etc. My favorites were the jewelry themed Kiddles, dolls inside lockets or rings that you could actually wear. There were Kiddles inside perfume bottles that smelled like flowers, and a line of Kola Kiddles that came in soda bottles. There were fairy tale Kiddles and even a line of romantic couples like Romeo & Juliet and Robin Hood & Marian.

I used to have a blonde Swingy doll, with a pink dress. There may have been some orange too. Unfortunately, she was broken many years ago, but I just bought one recently, and it's great having a small piece of my childhood back again. Swingy has the absolute cutest face!
I’m shocked that somebody doesn’t know what slug bug is! Lol. And if you read any books or watch 1960s shows people had cute little nicknames for each other hence the name cricket.

« Cricket » is also a famous character in the soap opera « the Young and the Restless », so I guess it’s not that uncommon of a name in the US.

In USA, MATTEL Toys had battery operated dolls that did things like splash water in her tub (Baby Splash) or spun around because she was a Ballerina.
Yes, I had Baby's Hungry, whose mouth would open and close as she "ate" her pretend food. Until her D-cell batteries ran down - then she was pretty creepy until her batteries were replaced.
Great Video! Liddle Kiddles had /have quite a following. These mattel dolls were introduced in the 60s. (a bunch of kiddle klones came after their release) A few of the kiddles were reintroduced in the 70s and the 90s. Thank you for creating these doll videos💜
