Above are the two greatest links you'll ever click on when educating yourself about high output alternators. This Mech-Tech-Truck video I touch base on why we use our 1.75" high output pulley's and options for those that should NOT run the smaller pulley and keep the stock sized belt. On to the next one!

Just re-checked my social media messages again and nothing there.
Checked my Tony@Mechman.com email and don't have any unread/unresponded to emails.
Now, we are an actual business and not a guy in a garage cobbling alternators together and painting them, so we will be close tomorrow(Saturday/Sunday) but we'll be in the same place we've been this week on Monday.
I'll still be checking social media over the weekend on my own personal time, but thats no biggie. That's what I'm here for.

Let me chime in here since i just had a "life Alternating" experience,
So the old stock" 130A alternator finally died on me in my 2002 Escalade AWD 6.0 after buying the truck from a private seller - he did mention that it may need some TLC down the road, so i went to Advanced Auto where a certain A-shmole" was working the desk trying to counter my info i needed to get a replacement "OE" one all part numbers matched up and model type.
Put it in my truck and bam as soon as i started driving fast or aggressively it gets a low volt reading from the volt gauge in the dash, this was my first time having to replace this part, so i was stumped for a few moments, thought maybe it could be a bad battery, crapped out "new refurb" alternator, maybe a ground came loose somewhere, etc etc, then I went online bought a 250A overland spec Alternator and a 250A fuse with 0 gauge wire booster. i even had new shops test the 130A alternator and my battery to rule out which one is causing the problem they both said the battery was good and the alternator was fine, but for some reason i didn't believe them (strange gut feeling), put my battery back in the truck and tossed the advanced auto 130A alternator in my toolbox -
So anyway back to the 250A Alternator, I installed all that in about 3 hrs since i had to figure out how to upgrade my positive battery terminal as it needed "some changes" and as soon as I connected the negative, i heard a faint electrical crackling through the truck from the front to back - like the truck was being baptized with power - then when i started it, damn the 6.0V8 engine had a better aggressive start, healthy, and the stock bose sound system sounds better overall bit more bassy and clear, now i can accelerate faster, hills aint nothing anymore, and just the performance as a whole is great now. This Escalade feels brand new to me just by installing the higher output Alternator.
Deff my case using a high output alternator may be different from others, I've been working on car since i was 14, I am now 47.
but glad i did this to my escalade, it was worth it.
Cheers and keep learning out there

Just got my new 370 elite for my ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. Love the look but I have not done the install yet. I’m trying to use the website to find the new belt I need but it won’t let me click on what I need to get it done. But what I was thinking was, why not send the correct belt out with the chosen alternator.

    • @mechmanalternators

Because we do not know the vehicle options, year changes, year breaks for that specific stat. Idler pulleys can vary in size from OEM to wear/tear replacement items over the life of the vehicle. I can keep going on and on.
The GM SUV/TRUCK belt chart in our FAQ's is only like 99% right. We still have an occasional disgruntled customer because he has the 1 of 20 vehicles made that year with NO A/C and the whole system is different.
The best we can do is give the customer all the necessary tools and information to ensure a proper fit.
I just checked the link, seems to be working perfectly fine.

The reason changing belts is scary specially on boat engine is because not all belts are made the same and it's already difficult to find the original belt so getting smaller belt might be ok initially but what if they are no longer available in the future. My example is for a Volvo Penta 5.7 belt is part # 3862665 if you have the part number for a smaller belt that will work I'll definetly buy this alternator for my boat.

So - with the install of the big three or four and with the install of a new high powered amp, not much discussion in what size fuse you should use from that high powered alternator to the battery. This is a key point due in fact that fusible links are there for a reason. With the install of a high powered alternator, larger cables are required and are often replacing the factory cables. Question: what size fuse would you put between that High Amp alternator and battery?

    • @mechmanalternators
      @mechmanalternators  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, a fuse is there to simply cut power in the event of an accidental short so if you have have a 400 amp alternator, any fusing over 400 amps would be perfectly fine. Fusing is fairly straightforward when knowing the rated amperage of the alternator...or so I thought.

Like I said could be the battery or maybe my module isn't working properly 🤷‍♂️ but the alternator is BAD A$$ I'm running about 4 thousand watts 4 little DC 8 inch woofers and at night pushing those lil guys and dropping down to about 13.3/13.5 at night to me that's amazing cause everything in the vehicle is running so I am very happy

Tony! Why don't you sell a larger pulley for the idler so people can use the stock belt? Just a though to help people overcome that problem of being intimidated by needing a non standard belt. It's an easy addon sale and will help customers feel more comfortable knowing they'll be able to find a replacement belt without having to get something non standard.
Use a top quality bearing and make the pulley steel or aluminum so the bearing can be pressed out so they can rebuild it for under $20. It's just another quality upgrade you can offer. Idler pulleys wear out. You can give your customers an opportunity to replace them with something better than factory instead of far worse than factory like pretty much all of the aftermarket pulleys are and maintain using the stock size belt.
It will fly, even for replacing the other idler and tensioner pulleys they keep stock size. A set of Mechman hard anodized aluminum pulleys color matched to those bitchin' alternators, maybe black or polished aluminum finish...???! It's a no brainer to buy. Consistent design aesthetics when they pop the hood. Longer bearing life. Lower rolling resistance than crappy bearings. Love it.
Shoot me a message. I'm more than happy to accept a big ol' gift amazon card for the new product line idea! (but only because I don't need a big alternator right now!)
