I have a 3500w (RMS) system! I have a 160 amp alternator, 3 big marine lead batteries with 1 medium sized agm battery! I eliminated my factory battery altogether and am running everything out of the trunk 😂😂 only slight voltage drop not enough to dim the lights! Drops down to like 13.9 on super low sound! Comfortable listening absolutely 0 drop!!!
Was between Mechman and JS ... went with a custom JS 320alt for a toyota FJ build. Using 3x XS power AGM. Everyone seems to go with Mech' , hope JS is as good, better, or all the same. Looking to power @ 8500-10k rms combined (not crazy, but not normal)
My system a RF 1,500 mono block and a JL Audio 600/4, car is a Cadillac CTS with an OEM 130 amp alternator, at idle my voltage does dip at heavy bass songs at 3/4 volume which is about as high as I run unless the song isn't an older non remastered which tend to be lower volume to 11.7 volts for short bursts, but stays over 12 volts 90% of the time, this is at idle and I don't notice listening wise any dip in volume or SQ , and my headlights don't flicker, so should I upgrade my alternator or am I fine for now
Most newer vehicles are an absolute nightmare to replace the alternator and can actually cost over $1,250 with labor. Can just add a lithium battery to supplement the system without upgrading alt for a few hundred.
I have a 2018 Honda accord, I will be running 2 amps, 1 down4sound jp3300, 3300 watts, and 1 down4sound jp95 1500 watts, I order an AutoTech engineering alternator 290amps. I some help with batteries under the hood and in the trunk, what should I look into?
Even with hi output alternator u still need power storage or you'll get drop!!! Plus you'll strain your factory wires that's a big ass alternator for a small vehicle
No you are not done. Unless you take steeps to seal the ground location and or take steeps to prevent rust, in a few months you will lose ground and smoke everything!
Nope your wrong! Just keep corrosion clear and good to go!!! True I've been installing stereos since 1996 when I smoked my first amp wiring incorrectly 🤣🤦
I have a 220amp. According to your math, between my amplifiers, I was a total of 190 which I multiplied times 60% and I got 114. Do you recommend I do the big three? I’m going to add a capacitor just to be safe.
Appreciate the info, my current alternator in my truck is 220amp I only have kicker cx800.1 amp, but i noticed the needle drops for battery voltage if at low rpms or idling at half volume or more, should i be concerned and or would a big 3 alone fix this?
Do I need a higher output alternator or a better battery if I’m just trying to run a new android head head unit and 3 screens? And an Xbox from time to time
I've been trying to figure it out for weeks now. I want to add a second battery. I'm running a 2500 W amp with 2. 12. I have done the big 4 upgrade. But I'm just not smart enough to figure out what kind of battery I need. I cannot get nobody to give me a direct answer. And it is driving me crazy. I drive a 2007 Kia Ronda. And I'm running a Pioneer head unit and Both of my twelve are rated for twenty five hundred
Down4sound has a guide on the site. They have 12v lithium for the truck you can use with a regular 12v battery in the front or find out the size agm your car accepts for the front or the largest you can fit. For both batteries, you'll be spending around 600-700.
@TG-qy3us the Titan8 lithium for under hood battery before an alt. The one battery alone can power 2k-5k just. 1yr warranty though and the new ones coming out will have 4yr.
Just got my 370 alt im a be running 3000x1 amp ran at 1ohm with a 4 channel 100x4 at 4ohm will i need second battery gonna be running 3000 watt too one 15
i have a Dual 12" 2,400 Watt SDR Series Complete Subwoofer Package with Vented Enclosure and Amplifier. My amp is 1200rms I have a 130 stock alternator, do I still need to upgrade to a better alternator or will I be okay with what I have for while ?
Question: When calculating the amplifier power, do I calculate ALL AMPS or just the bass amp? I'm running 14 speakers. 2 subs, 10 midrange and 2 horns. 12000 V between the 3 amps. When I do the math, I'm getting some really high numbers. I may be doing something wrong.
Add all of it up, also im pretty sure you mean 12000 watts not volts. Hope that helps. Watts devided by current(volts) puts you at a 1,000 amp load with a 12v system. With everything in use and at full load. If you upgrade your alternator, you can add controls to controll the voltage, probly wanna turn it up to 14v that would put you around 857 amps. Which is still pretty hi. done correctly you would probably need two Mechman alternators, a second battery, isolator for the second battery is nice as well.
I have a 12000rms amp the music amps is 643 and a 1000rms amp and the pull is between 70 to 100 so add the to amperage pulls 70a plus 643a which is 710amps music pull then times it by 60% which equals 427.8 so I may need 2 alternators😬😬😬 if yours is 12000rms you'd still need around 350 to 400
Your forgetting that the stock alternator uses about 50 to 60% to power the car. So in reality you don't have 70 amps starting you have 28 amps enough to power a 300 watt rms amp before causing issues. But since you wont play a 35hrtz tone and you will play music you can power a 500 to 600 watts of musical play on your amp. The math is this per every 100 amps you can power a 1000 watt amp. Use the knowledge as you like
Big 4 is extremely useful. Just adding a ground from the alternator to the fuse block under the hood. Completes the circuit.

Could have left factory and installed battery isolator to separate 2
@@stevelovesgod it was junk so eliminated it lol
Good video man.
Appreciate it!
Thak you Josh for this helpfull video. Keep teaching us.
Yeah!! You got it brother!
Nice video. I needed this. My goodness.
Thank you so muchness, it was very educational
1:03 he just called me out completely 😭 I have a 2002 Honda civic as well

Bro wire in another battery in series and you'll be good to go minimal voltage drop!!!
@@jwelch1027parallel
Only if your system exceeds the cars electrical demands... I would still do a big 3.
Yes big 3 is critical if you can't get the voltage fast enough you'll burn shit up!!!
Most newer vehicles are an absolute nightmare to replace the alternator and can actually cost over $1,250 with labor. Can just add a lithium battery to supplement the system without upgrading alt for a few hundred.
Not true have an xs power battery and still experiencing voltage drop
Hello I have a 2012 yaris with a 80A alternator no power windows or locks how much wrms will the alternator handle with no alteration thanks

Lto lithium cells bro best in the game

Xs power d3400 for underhood batteries and xs power xp3000 for a reserve in trunk battery.excellent agm battery's

The big 3 is highly recommended to try that first
@@BreakersStereo did the big3, still have drops in voltage, was trying not to upgrade alternator but i guess im left with no choice
Big 3 on 220 amp alt and still voltage drop on an 800 watt setup? Something’s off
@therealb_angel8774 yeah its not affecting sound any, but i can see the lil bar dropping and rising on my 23 silverado
Definitely recommend the big3/ 4.irs called the big 3 but most times it's 4 wires that need to be installed
Thank you for this video
Yes sir! Thanks for the comment!!
My alternator belts squeaks only when i cut my system up. Do that mean i need a bigger alternator?
I have a 86 4runner old school running 3,200 watts .... what is a good alternator. Old school cars are hard to get alternator.

All you need too do is go too auto zone or Riley’s and ask for the same battery you have in your engine bay
