I am a retired 67 y/o nurse who has never worked on cars in my life. By watching TH-cam, I was able to change rear shocks on my 97 Chevy S10. After watching your video, I was able to change the passenger side mirror on my 98 Ford F150. It was actually fairly easy thanks to your video. Although my truck was slightly different, it was not so different as to cause me any problems in changing the mirror. I figured I saved about $200 and when you are retired, that is a lot of money to save. Thank you for your great video.
Thank you. Great video. to the point instructions and the bonus was showing me that the color mirror shell could me swapped with the new one. I also appreciated how you show that the door trim can be removed without taking all he switches and linkage apart. Thanks again. PS The dog is good lookin'
Informative video. This job went so smoothly in about 45 minutes with the assistance of my 8 year old son. Wish I bought the dang assembly from Amazon though, as it cost me $235 from the dang dealer and I had to drive there twice.
+Sunshine Boating I'm glad it went smooth. Always good to have a helper :) Don't feel too bad the OEM one you have is probably better quality than the one I have. Best part is it's done and you were able to check it off your to-do list
Thanks for this helpful video. I have a 1998 F-150 and was able to change out the mirror out by removing the door panel without disconnecting the wires to the window and door lock switches.
Awesome video. The mechanic wanted to charge me $75 to put the mirror on since he "had to remove the door panel". After watching this video, I did it myself in about 20 minutes. And I'm no mechanic. Thanks for posting this video!
This is great! i'm about to do a mirror replacement on my 2004 f150 heritage, and this is exactly what i needed. thank you so much for just a detailed step by step
Thanks for the video - if you have an F-150 with manual windows you will need to carefully pull the cover off of the door crank handle with a flat tip and then use a T-15 screwdriver to unscrew the crank. Replacement is same as you show after that.
Hey Chris, just did watch your video this morning it is Sunday 8-11-19. I too had a little driving time with a tree, I consider it a tie, the Tree was still standing and I did drive back home with a small fender dent and a torn up Mirror! I do have a suggestion for any future video's although I do see this Video is now 7 years old, I hope and pray you are still in good health!! Anyway back to these video's, I consider myself to be very knowledgeable around a Vehicle, 80% of them anyhow!! But man I thought I done everything to a Truck, BUT NO I had never before put an Outside Rear View Mirror on!! HOLY SHIT BATMAN!! Back to my Suggestion: you could consider adding explanations in writing under the video or talking about The Degrees of Experience and/or Skill Required to get this LITTLE JOB DONE!!! I did have the experience and the Skills ( with back ground) to accomplish this Task. I am a Christian, but I am going to need to ask the LORD ALMIGHTY to forgive a lot of what I had said to today!!!! KEEP THOSE VIDEO'S COMING YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT TECHNICIAN, just a little more on the explanation of the where to's and the why for's. KEEP ON MOTORING CHRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So my truck is a 2001 XLT model trim and doesn’t have the turn signals but I really want them but don’t want to add any new wiring. Do you know if that’s possible or am I out of luck? If I do get them I’m hoping (and maybe you would feel the same) that my truck would already have it programmed into it and I can just connect it and it works 🤷♂️ idk if they’re be a wire I’ll need tho or not. Although my truck also didn’t come with the automatic headlight switch but I swapped my light switch out with one that an automatic since my old one was already broken and I discovered there was pre wiring for where I can add the automatic sensor. In which I did and it worked. I also discovered that the switches have many more modes on it than they give you. Unlike the typical… Automatic > Off > runner/dashboard> headlights > pull up for fogs But without the little plastic piece inside to force it to change modes, the nob itself can go… unknown mode (no lights turn on but makes my truck ding still if I open the door) > automatic (and you can also pull up for fog lights) > runners/dashboard (also can pull out 2 times (Ik you can add the fog feature for it) > headlights (also can pull for fog lights but also pull even further out my guess is for roof lights or any work lights) 🤷♂️
Thank you for your post.I have a 2000 XLT that I'd really like to update with new mirrors w/signals.Any chance you can let me know what updates are avaliable?
It's easier if you pop off the window lock panel with a flat screw driver first. Makes taking wire harness clips off easier. Also to take off the mirror nuts I used a magnet stick to avoid them dropping into the door.
Truck came with that fanciness when I got it from my grandfather. I'm not use to having A/C with my old Jeep that I only use it in the truck for the dog when we come home from the park.

Thanks for this video. I am not clear on why you swapped the front cover after you mounted the new mirror???

Nice YJ, in addition to my 00 f150 that I came here for, i have four YJs myself. Lol
I wanted to keep the original paint job look on the mirror without having to paint the new mirror front cover.
Thanks for the tutorial. My mirror was the victim of someone else's s**** driving...
We all say that...
$75...????
Currently on Amazon, power mirror, non-heated going for about $35
Mine don’t just lift and come off
Am I the only person in North America that has a 5 speed with no power windows?
