there's something strangely hypnotic about this game... I think it's the music
It's one of the hardest Master System games ever made ,You will see the 'Game Over' screen many, many times before you even get to the end of stage 1

Me neither. The very first video game I ever beat was Space Harrier on the Genesis. I almost felt like I should’ve lost respect for it by allowing me to beat it.

Love the frog sprites from Alex Kidd in Miracle World. :)
They first appeared in this game. A lot of Alex Kidd enemies are actually cameos from other games (the Daruma enemies were from Teddy Boy, and Alex Kidd dies in the same manner as Teddy Boy, turning into a ghost and floating up to heaven while a funny sound plays)

Holy cow. I played this game for hours as a kid. HOURS. And I never knew there was a boss. I can't believe the whole thing is only actually 8 minutes long.

I bought this game as a young child and instantly hated it. There’s still some type of trauma that’s remained with me ever since. I can’t remember whether I smashed it or returned it, but I ended up with Golden Axe and my faith in humanity was restored.

ONE OF THE FEW GANES OF MY CHILDHOOD i wished there was an option to adjust the volume on the music. This game was hard but I would always play it on mute because you can only take so much of the music before you are just mad because you don't want to hear it anymore.
This is a very cheery game for starting out with a brutal kidnapping.

Is it just me or at the end of the boss fight where they are looking at the sunset (such a Shonen way to end things) are they playing a part of Queen's "We Are the Champions" song in 8-bit form...? I knew I recognized it and took a few seconds to realize what it reminded me of...lol. Well, if it is , it totally fits the situation and is a great little addition!

It’s vice versa. This game was made in 1985, while Alex Kidd was made in 1986.
PS: the frogs were also originally snakes in the arcade version, and they spat venom.

Why is the goddamn sky green?! I’ll take the arcade version over this one any day, thank you. The problem with this port is that in the arcade game, the stages all were set in the same physical location, just in different time periods (a present-day Japanese City, A village in the Edo period, and a fortress/futuristic warehouse in the future), so the layout remained similar between levels albeit with some new obstacles on each stage. In this one, since every stage is set in the city (due to tech limitations of the Sega Card format), it just looks like the same level over and over. Honestly though, I’d still play this game just to turn my brain off for a few seconds.

I loved this game you had to beat it twice. I don’t know why he video stops at level 4.
i actually got the european/australian version which comes in a cartridge instead of a cart, but this game is brutally unfair. the only way to make it roughly halfway is by just jump kicking in order to move forward, because the ground melee attacks are worse, and if you have a rapid fire unit or a Genesis controller with turbo, neither will help you at all.

There's more like 20 levels. I've gotten to 15 it just gets ridiculous at that point.

+Adriano Miguel I'm guessing Sega couldn't fit enough kilobytes onto those cards (this was a "My Card" game that could only hold up to a limited amount).
I think this is unforgivable, even Donkey Kong on Atari 2600 had had at least two levels! :-(

They're all there, sort of anyways. All the levels keep the same layout like the original arcade game's levels, it's just that the background graphics, music and enemies are recycled from the first level due to technical limitations of the Sega MyCard.
Was Master System popular in Europe? I'm from the States and it was sold here, but I didn't know ANYBODY who owned one.
Very popular, except in France, it was sold more than NES. There´s also a lot of games exclusives from Europe, the later releases from 94-95. Most of them very expensives.

So wait a minute?! How many rounds are there actually in this game?! This game nearly drove me mad and made me blow a gasket as 12 year old back in 1990! The cheapness and the way you die lolz?! In a fight with the main boss you can take about 10 hits before you lose but on the way you instantly die getting taken out by a dude riding a pig and a remote control car to the shins lolz. Oh the hilarity of it all, a beer bottle I can relate too?! Maybe even a dude throwing a rock or a knife as well?! But those Alex Kidd frogs (which were invincible?!) and those bloody flames?! Oh lets not forget the bombs and rocks which were so random haha!!? Oh well that's the games charm and I can laugh at it now but I certainly didn't as a kid though...I like this game, it looks good, has a pleasant tune but is SO frustrating beyond breaking point that you just get angry at everything and everyone in the end. Dark Souls of an early beat em up, you can forget Double Dragon as well heh..Frustratingly good!!!?!...

There's actually an infinite number of level, since stage 4 they're just repeating with greater speed. And actually this game is quite hard, so it probaply takes longer :)
They had some goddamn audacity to even release this.

i love how a lot of characters on sega consoles look like turtle heads. look at the enemy at 2:40 or gunstar heroes. what's up with the turtle faces?

Music would have been cool if it was slower and not a polka song then on stage 2 it was the same music had to turn the volume all the way down
