No.1 shed was demolished in 1964. I can remember my late dad, who was a boiler 'tuber' working at No.2 shed at the time , coming home and telling us it had been knocked down. No.1 shed was the 'running' shed, where locos were prepared for duty, whereas No.2 shed was the repairs shed, also having a machine shop and blacksmiths shop built on the outside of the north end of the building. Between the two was a two road 'through' shed, which housed the wheeldrop, and wheel lathe. Roundhouse Way crosses the site of the wheeldrop shed. I have heard the story that the wrong shed was demolished, but don't know if it's true or not. I'm pretty sure the newest shed, No.2, had the biggest turntable. I also remember the late Tim Warr, a Wellingborough railwayman, telling me that there were cellars under No.1 shed, I can only assume the arches that have now been revealed are part of the cellars.

Wow. I came by today and saw this, the concrete spurs of the turntable are now being dug around. Also the arches of the ‘cellar’ are now visible. Fantastic.

Before the road went through on the side that it is now, there was a track that ran along side it. I remember the Diesel shed being there and the watertower. The track used to run up to Finedon slips as I used to bike from Mill Road to the slips and back. There used be a great rope swing on that tree next to the waterfall as pictured from the drone shot. Many a misspent youth down that way as a teenager.

Great video. Hope they don’t destroy this. Just been down to take a look. Didn’t know it was a turntable but I figured it out. Said to my daughter who lives there “I’m pretty sure it was a roundhouse”. She replied “Well you’re in Roundhouse Way”.
    That’ll be it then. 😎

Is that the original centre of the turntable in the middle of all the wooden spokes Purple me ol'mucker? You're right, it would be lovely if they incorporated it into the park. Maybe make a unique, railway based fountain out of it?? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I didn’t think there was anything left of the second roundhouse! If I remember rightly from what I’ve been told the actually demolished the wrong shed in the 60’s as the one knocked down had a turntable big enough to turn 9f’s whereas the other didn’t, the turntable and pits are still in the other roundhouse, just buried under concrete!
