  • Join me and Leanne as we venture through Wellingborough's infamous council estate we called home for majority of our lives...The Hemmingwell. The rugby pitch, the pond, the farm and the tanning industry...We love The Hemmingwell

I remember the barn that used to cover the concrete slab which is the last piece of Hemmingwell farm, we found a dead horse in there in the very early 70's......

12:37 That view takes me back to a kid , that would have been my route to Oakway Infants and Juniors . All those buildings you see were never there back then apart from the white building which was a Chapel or Church . Which back then was surrounded by an orchard , the bridge further down the road was bult but blocked off . We called it the bridge to now where . So all that area was basically awaiting development and a kids paradise to play in . The estate behind those houses on the left wasn't there either at the time ( Kestrel Lane etc ) , the roads had been laid but that was it .

I was Wellingborough born and bred. Born on Stanley Road then moved out back in '92 then lived round the corner from The Swallow pub on Fulmar. My family still in Wellingborough I'm in Nottingham. Wellingborough holds some great memories but a lot has changed since moving out in 2000. Some great vids there fella!

The Hemmingwell Lodge nursing home , my Mother worked there for many a year . In fact she retired from there just before it shut . It did have some structural issues at the end of it's life , although couldn't have been that bad as it was used as a Doctors surgery after closing . I believe one of the issues was the enclosed stair well which would have been seen from that side of the building was actually coming away from the main building . It also had on that side a House that was meant for the manager of the home to live in ( i think that was its purpose ) . How ever that got burnt down many years before it shut .

I lived on Nightingale Lane in the early to mid 90's. I worked in the HMV. Had some great times DJing alternative nights in Wellingborough and Kettering. I even did some Reunion specials in The Horseshoe between 2015 and 2017.

12:44 If you was to look down your left on that bridge , further down Nest Farm Road on the left on the grass opposite Sandpiper Lane was if i remember the only shop at the time on the Hemmingwell " The VG shop " . It was a portacabin shop and was there many years until the shops were built by the Swan pub and the old people home . I seem to remember the under pass for those shops was there but i don't remember the shops and for the life of me can't remember what was there before it was built . Taking a trip down memory lane right now lol .

They got rid of the pond because people would always dump their rubbish in there, made it into a stinking eyesore!!! Used to catch newts there in the 1970's, when it was pretty decent.... Lived in Thrush lane for 40 years, 2 doors up from Ray Stewart, before he moved out, funnily enough.... Nice one for the pond photo, purple, brought back some memories 👍👍

I used to play with the Paterson children on Nest Farm when I was little, before the Hemmingwell was built. They were bought by the council and moved to a farm nearby. Can't remember where, though. I went to many a night at the rugby club and my sister's first house backed onto the pond when it was first built. My first Stag night was in my local, the Swallow pub, as I lived in Gannet Lane. But, wow, is it different now?

Really nice that you are promoting where you live. Like you say it got a very bad name 20/30 years ago but I guess those causing mayhem have now grown up and all now seems to be under control. Where I garage my car 10/20 years ago a group of people played havoc, breaking anything and everything and the councils answer at the time was 'knock the garages down'. Thank goodness that did not happen. The youngsters grew up and now value the area like we all do. well done to both of you.

Great video again mate. I’m sure the estate was built in the 60s not the 80s.
So many memories. Where the play park is now there used to be a “mobile school hut” that we used to practice when I played drums in a punk band. It also used to double up as a disco on a Friday. Near to that there used to be a radio mast that we used to climb up!
The bridge you crossed I got a slap round the face from a girl at the time. And yes there were qui a few scraps in that pub, that really was notorious. I also remember the pond and a shop that was another mobile school unit and was on nest farm road on the triangular patch of grass opposite the Robin lane junction. We also used to ride about the field down near the brook on a moped.
It’s a shame about the rubbish everywhere. But I think bits been a problem for ever really. I lived there when I was 15 in 1981 to about 1996. And it’s also part of me growing up. Not as long a time as yourself of course.
Notorious nah, would I change the fact I lived there? No chance.

It amazes me that Wellingborough district has removed more than halt the litter bins and don’t sort the pathways out anymore! How the council workers go home with heads so high I don’t know. over paid carefree attitude with little attention to the homes of thousands.
The A45 looks a tip even to the point a young lad and lass was litter picking the bit around mc Donald putting there life’s at risk! Even the attitude of Norse is somewhat childish when confronted about the lack of a service they provide.

    • @charlottehill7855
      @charlottehill7855 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I agree, I find it really sad the level of litter around our town esp the A45 and all our estates.. it never used to be this bad.. the council need to sort this out. I often pick up litter around my street, it
      is frustrating
