Lucas's Star Wars had directly borrowed themes and techniques from Kurosawa's Samurai films, even entire shots in sequence from Hidden Fortress. We all loved that Samurai flavor and it was done with care. Now Disney will bring the master's name out every time they need a character reference for PR . Ryan Johnson had a rain scene in TLJ and they said "it's like Rashomon!" Current show has a potentially unreliable POV narrative and what's on every Ad media headline...''it's like Rashomon!''. We've seen ''Rashomon sequences'' in dozens of non SW projects that never begged the comparison. It's got twins too I guess it's also inspired by Ivan Reitman? It strains credulity to make these connections. It's just... lipstick on a pig. Even if it's true midway through shooting a episode director mentioned she should watch Ran sometime..

    • @9Siddartha9
      @9Siddartha9 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's exactly lipstick on a pig, same as quoting Kill Bill or Fight Club. But you are right, quoting Rashomon is particularly jarring, and frankly offensive at this stage.

I get what they’re trying to go for with the Chant: we’ve only ever seen Jedi and Sith acting as individuals or in master/student pairs. These “witches” use the force as a group. (With feminist overtones of the “patriarchy” views the Force as a force, power - while the matriarchal witches view it as the Thread that connects us.
They’re borrowing (or blatantly ripping off) the Wheel of Time where the men are individually more powerful than nearly any female, but the women can link together to become geometrically more powerful.
The problem is that they’re doing it _badly._ The Jedi have been around for over TEN THOUSAND years at this point and some of the first Jedi _were_ women and have always held power on the Jedi council. Just because we haven’t seen Jedi cooperating together to use the force on screen (we have in the comics and novels) doesn’t mean they don’t. We just haven’t seen it.
And the dichotomy in the force between light and dark isn’t what you do with the force, but _why._. Are you using the force selflessly or selfishly? Are you using the force to help others or to get what you want.
The problem here is that feminism, as the Leslie Headlands of the world understand it, believe power is a zero sum game, any power you have is at _my_ expense; any power men have is power women don’t (and since men only use their power to oppress people, they shouldn’t have any anyways). So she’s making a show about “power and who has the right to use it” and Star Wars has ALWAYS been about “how are you using the power you have: in the service of others or in service of your own interests?” Because we all have different amounts and kinds of power. Some of us have the force and some of us have the Millenium freakin’ Falcon and some of us have stone tipped spears.

    • @krnatsu
      @krnatsu 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I'm glad to see someone put perfectly, what I have been thinking ever since I heard the witch mum say "this is about power and who is allowed to use it". Its something that always bothered me, because surprise surprise, much of Palpatine the main antagonists character, is about being given power that he SHOULD not have. But the key that Leslie and many like her miss, is the reason WHY. Writers like Leslie are always asking the what's. They always present us with surface level and basic information, but never take the time to think WHY that thing is the way it is. It doesn't matter WHY the Jedi, the Sith or anyone in between uses the Force, what matters is simply that you have it. And that tells me that Leslie is not an individual wishing to solve the problem, because that requires her to not only acknowledge something as an issue, but to understand why it is one in the first place. She simply wishes to replace George's original conception of the Force, without considering the reasons he wrote it that way

Pushing for this “grey Jedi” to become canon is the worst thing you can do
People already don’t like the prequels but they also tend to scoff at the moralism of the Jedi and the emotional conditioning they undergo
If they manage to maintain a force user that wields abilities both sides of the force, kills in anger and holds down a marriage all without consequences that will confirm that said conditioning was never necessary and will therefore confirm the Jedi as being bad guys hung up on a dogma like they’re labeled for(yeah, I know: run on sentence)

    • @ThreadBareHope1234

      Same.
Witches in Star Wars whether they are the Acolyte's witches or the Dathomir's witches, no force user is in the middle.
I’m not saying everything about the Night sisters was perfectly planned, though. There's a lot about them that doesn’t make sense, but assuming they are *not* using something separate from the Force, it's obvious they're darkside.
They worship the Fanged God who's with them when they take life and eat (seems like the Son), and the Winged Goddess who embodies growth, fertility and life giving (like the Daughter), and they accept both. From that, it makes sense they have necromancy, as they might see the Fanged god (Son) as a source of power. Plus, they have dealings with the Sith (maybe for their protection), they exclude men in every aspect of society (there is no evolutionary advantage to this), and don’t seem to discuss conservation (not taking the Son's values to far), which could be the dark side's influence.
But again, it's likely not every aspect was intentional. There is no evolutionary advantage to the gender segregation, it's likely just a subversion. Or the green mist highlighting their control of an object. Does the mist effect come from within Nightsisters? And that's not to say I don't like Merrin.

Andor is very grey because it was about little people having to use the weapons of their enemies and how they suffer under a regime. Acolyte should be more black and white and I think it will be.

"Many" means that they can all combine their forces to weave a multi-threaded tapestry.
I guess that's what gives them the power to take possession over other (force sensitive?) people's mind.
Perhaps when Mae died she migrated her personality into Osha, making her act like a split personality.
Now they may become collectively vulnerable when they join forces, so to harm one of them is to harm them all.
The possession 'thing' was developed in GOT where John Snow could shift his consciousness into his dire-wolf.Ghost. Possession is widely associated with witchcraft.
PS. I still think that "Something (gray) stinks in Denmark."

It's not possible. To me it sounds like people trying to make the story better. But the 2 have definitely been on screen together in a squence.
Because they are twins there has to be some creative editing, that might slightly give a wrong impression. But in the endings sequence of episode 3, other people acknowledge them both in the same scene and one shoots at the other.
If they did that fake out it wouldn't at all make sense

Thor's take on the Osha/Mae save attempt by Sol is...weird. Sol pretty clearly hopes to save them both but can't. He saves Osha because that's who he could save. The kind of decision making Thor describes doesn't make sense, especially coming from someone so adamant that the Jedi really are the good guys. So which is it Thor? Do they try to save anyone they can or are they the type of people who only save the useful people who wouldn't complicate things? Very odd.

as cringey as the witches are, I’m actually glad they didn’t use the Nightsisters… we just saw them in _Ahsoka,_ and I think that’s as much as I’d like to see of them 🤷🏻‍♂️
but ideally… why couldn’t the twins just have been Force-sensitive sisters born to a regular family, and the Jedi come to take them away and train them, but the parents resist, and some tragedy occurs? or maybe the Jedi only take one sister, and the tragedy is simply splitting them up? and one grows up to be a Jedi, and the other ends up an “acolyte”?

That is fine, the character is just mistaken, that is how many dark side users have been depicted in Star Wars EU.

That said in house of dragons when the King died and he gave that prophecy to his current wife, that soiled the entire story.
    Now hear me out
Before we all knew who the rightful hair to the throne was. And we knew who the usurper was going to be.
We knew motivations and we understood the means. As fans we could understand and empathize with the Queen and the desire to save her children from what she believed to be their impending doom.
When they threw that scene into the story and the Queen said, “I understand”, that gave her cover to ignite the Civil War instead of letting her just be the villain we could understand and empathize with.

    HUH?
See, here's the thing: When you have to explain your creative choices, midway in a series...
I'll say this: If, by episode 7, We don't have clarity with regard to WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED...this miniseries will forever live in infamy and obscurity. What could the 8th episode do, that could fix all that came before it?
BTW: What about this material correlates with The Clones Wars and the story of The Nightsisters? Again, unlike popular theories, Lucasfilm Ltd. promos, and interviews circulating of late, Mr. Dave Filoni DID NOT have much of a role in the creation and execution of The Acloyte. He was nowhere to be seen, when it was greenlit (in 2018/19), when it was being filmed (via leaked set photos), and when the panels and interviews occurred at SW Celebration 2023. I think, if anything, he was "brought in" during the reshoots, and maybe he tried to refocus what was happening in Ms. Headland's "version" of George Lucas' universe, after seeing how far it had gone unfettered. Ironically, Headland (seemingly) didn't even think to consult, along w/ Dave, George Lucas and Katie Lucas (his Daughter), who was the main writer for the storyline of The NIghtsisters Of Dathomir, inc. the ultimate fate of Asajj Ventress, which got depicted in the novel, Dark Disciple.
P.S. Why am I NOT SURPRISED, that the people involved with this show are speaking of avoiding a binary kind of thinking and being?

I wouldn't say that Star Wars was ever about good versus evil. It seems to me it was more about "Is it a good idea to perceive the universe as a struggle of The Good against The Evil?" In the original trilogy Luke solves this dilemma by deciding that no one is truly evil, not even Darth Vader, somewhat against the persuasions of his masters we should note. That is "original" Luke's answer, presumably lined with the reasoning that it is the deed that could be evil, but not the person - the person is inherently good, while the evil deeds stem from confusion, misguidedness, entrapment and a lack of skills and tools to properly deal with ones challenges. A rejection of the "good vs. evil" worldview is possible on different grounds as well, like those explored in "Andor" ("Noble outcomes are sometimes impossible without evil deeds, noble motivations sometimes bring about evil outcomes"). Then there's the theme of "Is it evil if it's necessary for survival? Does it make one an evil person"? (Han shooting first arguably the earliest example of this motif). And on top of all that there's the jedi who embrace the belief that some individuals are indeed inherently evil - which begs the question whether the phenomenon of "falling to the dark side" is not a direct product of this very belief that one must be either one of The Good or one of The Evil, a self-fulfilling prophecy if you will. Star Wars is about struggling with the dilemma and testing the upsides, downsides and risks of the possible answers, not about kicking evil's ass.
