- 1.5"? 2.5"? Does it make a difference? Let's compare them on a 1/8" Rowmark LaserMax Acrylic on my Thunder Laser BOLT engraving machine. I will also share my cut settings for the 1/8" Rowmark acrylic. Hope it is helpful. Cheers!

The beam width of a 2.5" lens vs a 1.5" lens is why you loose detail, its like using a thicker lead pencil vs a thin lead pencil. Its not just focal depth, but also beam width. If you used a 4" lens you would loose even more detail.
Good day - thanks very much for the additional explanation - I didn't realize that but it makes sense to me. Thanks for taking the time to share it for me and others. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing Gord. It's really awesome what all those machines are capable of doing if the person operating it does their homework like you are doing. I'll just watch you from here if you don't mind. Stay safe and keep up the great videos . Fred.
Have a nice week Fred. All the best!
Very interesting Gord. And a great subject! 😄👍
Morning Ed! Thanks for tuning in!
Hey! Thanks Gord, wonderful example of the differences in lasers. I really appreciate the explanation! And I'm glad the larger file helped. :)
It did - thanks Ross. Was a good learning for me. Still lots more to learn but getting better. Have a great weekend!
Great video. Easy to follow. Keep up the great content!
Cheers and thanks Mack!
Thank you for all you do my friend!
Have a great weekend!
Interesting, I have a Boss laser with a 2” lens. Have not tried different lens yet, happy with the quality that the 2” produces.
Great video…I am getting laser rich and money poor but HAVE to add a Thunder Bolt Pro 32 to my shop…might be an early Christmas present to me!
LOL! Merry Christmas!
Referencing the trace, I'm not an expert, but try doing multiple traces and then layer them together to trace that logo. I would isolate the ROTL and trace it and then add it to the original picture. Some traces may give you good detail in one spot and not the other.

Hey good day and thanks very much. I will give that a try on a future project. Sounds like it would work well. Thanks again!
Nice job Gord, nice job. I did notice the loss of the exhaust and tire definition. I hope the 2-1/2" can be adjusted to bring oin the finer detail because the white is definitely whiter. But darn it sure looks good.
Morning Jerome. Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoy your Sunday!
@@LaserNUG Definitely will. The pastor is a barbeque expert and once a month we have Barbeque Sunday. Today beef brisket and pulled pork, baked beens, green beans, mac & cheese, Ceasar salad, two different pasta salads, 5 different pies and cakes, and gluten free corn casserole. It was deliciious.
Looks great Gord!
Thanks Zee!
VERY Impressive! Great job! How does the BOLT do with 1/4" acrylic and wood?
I have not tried the 1/4" acrylic yet but it cuts the 1/4" Baltic Birch just fine - check out my video #021 "Stucki and Jarvis". Cheers!
@@LaserNUG Perfect...thank you! Any chance you want to move to Colorado and be my neighbor? LOL!
@@1-Nice-Guy LOL. That's very kind. I have a good friend that moved there - he says it is a beautiful place. Cheers!
I just got my 2.5” lens in and can’t believe how much cleaner my engraves are on leatherette -no cleanup at all now!
I have also been using 1/8” rowmark and find that the left side of my cut lines are a bit distorted. I believe this is due to the angle of the air assist on the bolt. Have you had similar issues? Do you cut with full air or have you dialed yours down? Thanks for the videos!
Good morning and thanks for tuning in. Yes, for sure, I almost always have kind of like it looks lifted a bit or perhaps distorted is the best way to say it but it is so minute that I don't see it unless I look closely and at an angle. If yours are more prominent, so to speak, perhaps try a much lower power setting and make two passes. I would agree that the air is blowing the heat sideways through the cut. I always use almost full air for my cuts ( i back off the thumb screw just a little from full position). Hope that is helpful. Have a great week!
Did you have to change your focus setting for cutting with the 1.5 inch lens.
Hey George. No, I just used the Auto-focus. The BOLT Lenses are all calibrated based on the autofocus distance. Cheers!
I am awaiting the delivery of my bolt and I also purchased the 2.5” and 4” lenses. For your test, did you adjust the focal distance for your 2.5” lens? That will play a key factor in the detail you are able to get out of that lens.
Hey Dan - Congrats on the new laser! I had a training lesson - they said there is no need to adjust it from the Auto-Focus distance. However, I am learning that with all lenses and lasers, some folks will drop or increase the Z axis distance manually to manipulate a different result than normal. But in short, the autofocus distance does not need to be adjusted in any way, any more than the other two lenses. Enjoy your new laser and thanks for watching!
where get 1/8" rowmark acrylic sheet ? do they have 1/4" thick ?
I get it here in Canada from Cesco - Canadian Engraving Supply. Some of their products do. Good luck!
In the US search for Johnson Plastics..they also have several branch locations where you can pickup
Do you have a link to the Rowmark Acrylic you used on this video? I looked on their site and they have A LOT of options...I want to make sure I get the same as yours.
Hey good afternoon. sorry but I don't. I just have a paper brochure that I order from. It is called LaserMAX and the three colour is called LaserMax Tri-Layer. Hope that helps. All the best!
@@LaserNUG thank you! Found it.
