Bounced it on both my landings in my first solo. Thanks for making this video. I'm going to practice a bunch in the sim before going up again.

I bounced my first two as well, went around on the first landing though since I think it would have turned into a porpoise.

Very good training video. Problem I had with the 172 trainers I had was the yoke would get real sticky during the flair which led to some landing issues, fortunately none serious but still disconcerting. After I won my PPL, I could rent a beautiful 'new' SP with a GPS screen and fuel injection. Landings mostly improved with the yoke smooth as silk all the way to touch.

Great teaching tutorial. I wish I had such great teaching and video graphic explanations when I was first learning.

So geat !! You do help me a lot.. my CFI just told me what I do wrong, but not tell me how to recover, wrong recovery method, and the timing to go-around ! I'll try all of them in FSX !

Doug, thanks so much for the comments - its great to hear from fans in the aviation community as that's one of our main motivators for this production. Stay tuned for more and make sure you fly safe! Take Care.

Another important factor in a bounced landing, how long is the runway? Am I going to run out of runway if I recover after the first bounce on a landing?
It is surprising how quickly the end of the runway comes up if you float on a little or use some power to smooth it out.
If in doubt at any time, go around.

Great video! I am currently doing my ATPL hours and hoping to do my first solo soon... it was helpful to see the faulty approaches from another perspective!

We old time commercial pilots from the 60s wonder why today's emphasis is usually "control inputs" and "control applications"?? Some of us weren't taught that way. My instructor was 3 times national airbatics champion.
Proper control PRESSURES are the answer. If trimmed correctly and thinking in terms of control FEEL of the amount of pressure needed to move the controls (like holding 5# of backpressure on approach), NOT the amount of movement or input, then over correction is negated even in gusty conditions. When control feedback pressures decrease, release some pressure, etc. We called it a "Feel of the air".When pilots learn to this level their flying becomes more precise and SMOOTH and the airplane stops flopping around like a fish. Many pilots with thousands of hours never learn it.Good luck

FYI. In WWII people that never ever were in an airplane before soloed Cubs in 5-6 hrs..... because they were taught FEEL, not movement.

Would this be 'flying by the seat of your pants' Or 'winging it" ? I'm not being sarcastic, but genuinely interested.
BTW thanks for the vid link: 'The Star Spangled Banner'

yes, feel it like a bird, be one with the plane, the controls become an extension of yourself, its not just science - its art -
there's a good title for a new video - the art of landing !

I couldn't agree more. I was 18 driving a 42 ton forklift and did the same thing. You learn how far to push the levers and i remember the back pressure. On the forklift the pressure even changed with how far you moved. it. You cannot look down when you have a boat 4 stories in the air. You need to know where the controls are and the FEEL.
