PhotoVision Video: Wedding Shoot Out, 10 Minute Challenge

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 5 พ.ย. 2015
  • In this segment, 5 wedding photographers are each given 10 minutes to strut their stuff with our bride and groom. The only guideline is that they must remain on the hilltop above the Biltmore Mansion, otherwise no rules, no limits! It's early AM and the natural light is marginal at best. Watch as each photographer approaches this challenging situation from a completely different perspective and produces completely different results with their own signature style.
    About PPA: Professional Photographers of America (PPA) is the world's largest non-profit photography association organized for professional photographers, by professional photographers…and with more than 28,000 creative members in more than 50 countries. this was amazing. the 2nd photographer was dope, using those leaves to add color to his shots, brilliant!

      ***** It was still in focus regardless.

      No way it's in focus. My screen works pretty good and the whole shot looks blurred out with soup green. Usually green foliage overhead is bad enough for white balance issues and color. Shooting through green can backfire. The 2nd shooter should have stepped back a few paces so the foliage had slight distinction and placed it lower toward their feet --- but not over their bodies.

      there's no right or wrong way, its called being creative.. the clean shot was in the can and he had time to spare, why not try something off the norm a little different. if you like normal or boring thats up to you, i know which photographer i'd chose.

    Why are people posting comments about this video or the instructors being bad? This is such an amazing look into how 4 accomplished and award winning photographers independently approach 10 minutes with a bride and groom. It's a very real world situation and I loved it. As with all tutorials, my advice to those who are open to new ideas and continual learning to better your craft is this; take what works for you and make it your own. Never bash someone for opening up the door into how they think and operate on a wedding day - the market decides that - not you. Thank you - ProVision! Well done!

      The Third sun glass fake was an award wining photographer??? F me.. Those were the worst posed and exposed pics I have seen on any webinar or photo shoot by any so called pro..
      What a phony.. Even his reasoning and bullshit reasons to the couple were an insult

    As a intermediate photographer, I really appreciate this video. It represents a great example of a real world test in a Wedding Portrait Session. In my opinion the female photographer did the best because of how she got the couple to relax and interact with each other. This is shown in her photos. She also use pretty good composition for the most part and the exposures where good. To the rest of the photographers, I think the pressure got to them and their fundamentals suffered as a result. Please do more videos like this. Terrific learning tool.

    That video at the end... man you have to really have to put some serious forethought into shooting those scenes. GREAT JOB. I would love to work with a crew like this. Hassleblad dude was a bit much but still some good shots. Parkery Pfeister was on point with his shots. I loved the 4x5 at the end. Wish they would have done a better closeup of it.You can tell Hanson Fong has done this a time or two. Love the first IR shot with the mansion in the back. Epic!! Especially for a 10 minute shoot. You're in a beautiful natural place, with beautiful light and what you do? You get them blind with a full flash light, all that gold light now is gone. For me, the example of what not to do in a shooting. The first photographer knows her job, simple and to the point catching and amazing light. The images are warm and beautiful. Well done lady, you rock that shooting, knowing what gear to use, and how you have to shoot in order to get awesome pictures.

    The first two photographers to me were the best. They both made the couple feel great and so their picture look way better. The other ones were rushing and almost pushing the couple to their poses. Thank guys for making this kind of videos. It helps us on what to do and what not to do.

      Eder Abogabir my exact observation.. they made the couple feel like they were really on a happy mood and not a modeling photo session

    • @Sashasuzuki
      @Sashasuzuki 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. And probably the models were getting tired as the shoots went on. Usually, those tired energies affect the sessions. It is interesting to see if she did that session the last.

  • @madnillz

    I do believe there is a lot to learn from this shoot. The first photographer is tops. She, hands down, knows what she is about, comfortable with her gear and as a result that comfort was transferred to her clients although she was under a ten minute time pressure. Herself and the second photographer understand lighting and composition and the resultant images were beautiful. As for the photographer who shot with the Hasslebald, the only thing impressive was the Hasselblad. The point of high speed sync is to use just the right amount of light to separate your subjects from the background and still capture the beauty of the ambient light and details available in the background. Instead, he shot with light that was harsh and the results were strong shadows extending from his subject who were themselves overexposed. As a husband, there is nothing about those ghastly images that I would finding pleasing. Note: Young photographers, the word photo in photography means light. A truly award-winning photographer manipulates light to create stunning photos. LEARN the ART of LIGHT and you won't ever have a need to be overly concerned with expensive gear. The images you take right out of camera will be gorgeous long before they get to post.

    • @adeelmohsin8574
      @adeelmohsin8574 7 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      the first photographer just used the bokeh in her favour but if u want that much bokeh you don't really need such a nice location you can do so in your backyard. whereas the second photographer used the location in his favour and gave out some really beautiful images.

    All interesting comments. The one element that I thought was emphasized by only one photographer was the location. A bride and groom typically spend a lot of thought, time and money on venue/location and thus as a photographer I need to make sure I show my clients in that location. I certainly like the first two photographers outcomes but given they did not attempt at showing off the venue within the 10 minute span I would have to say their shoots are almost failures (even though they had very pleasant images). All that said, it does not matter what I think, it's all about the client, their expectations and what they want from their day.

    Shooting in IR was totally a waste of minutes. That is such a niche audience and it seems to only look presentable with Japanese Cherry Blossoms, lol. I too was wondering why Mr. Hasselblad didnt take his shades off. We are quite enthused that they chose to add videographers to the mix. That was dope.

    I would say the second photographer captured the photograph much better than the rest of the photographers based on the overall session experience, the way he directed the couple without making them too posey. He was approachable & easy-going which helps to put the couple at ease, relax and be themselves without worries. The first photographer did a great job, too. But boy, a $6000 200mm f/1.8 lens????? Isn't it a little bit overkill? Certainly, they don't need that ultra wide aperture telephoto lens, even if its just for gathering more light or over-blur (bokeh) the background - a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens will do the job. One example of Master Photographer - Peter Lindbergh - a heavy user on Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 for framing the dramatic cinematography style still shot showed that sometimes you don't need to use the widest aperture or over-blur out the background to make a good shot. Blurring out too much, you remove the background elements, then there is no story to tell of what is going on behind the scene. Think of it like making a movie. The Hasselblad guy made himself quite a laughing stock. This guy tried to make a big noise to show off his $10k camera & called himself a professional. I can sense that he has somewhat bit of an arrogant attitude. Just look at 0:47 - the photographer in his orange t-shirt, notice his body language the way he sat compared to the rest of the photographers, if you see what I mean. And 21:03 - I will not wear that sunglasses as I find it a little bit rude because it's important to have a sincere connection with the couple so they can look right into your eyes when you give them posing direction. He also forcibly hold the bride's arm when fixing the pose. He was fiddling too much with his camera and his lighting in between shots. There was no constant working connection between the photographer & the couple. He treated the couple like a model, not the actual person.

    I would re-marry my wife so miss Woods can shoot our wedding this time. That is the style I love. The IR guy nailed the first shot too.

    Interesante propuesta de cada fotógrafo mostrando lo que saben poniendo esa finura en cada imagen, muy buena la locación, que mejor parajes cerca a la naturaleza para la sesión de fotos, felicitaciones a la pareja de esposos que salieron mas que satisfechos y felices por partida doble, las imágenes retratan el amor y la felicidad a flor de piel,,,que continúen los éxitos para cada una de las personas que realizaron ese trabajo
