I'm from Co. Limerick living in the USA, my beautiful wife Bridget hailed from Co. Mayo and gave me two great son's,.the dark orb of night cancer took that beautiful lady from me after forty years of joy, I could search the world over and never find another woman with such beauty inside and out. What A LADY! thank you Bridget for allowing me the privilege of being in your life for half a lifetime, God Bless Those Beautiful Mayo Women.
I am from England but my grandparents bought a cottage in the 1960s next to derryhick lake co-mayo in between pontoon and castlebar so I spent a lot of my youth over at my grandparents home. It brings back soo many memories ie Goin to castlebar playing bingo and helping the local farmers bring in the turf from the bog on donkeys, me with my tayto crisps and bottle of cidona and maybe a chocolate starbar or Texan bar. My grandparents lay to rest in turlough now god rest there souls, definitely Goin back to mayo next year it’s been 30years since I was last there.
My parents both from Mayo, Dad very fond of his hometown Newport, and the loving family split up all over the world. A fine Irishman. We all miss them. RIP.
Great song and a fine singing voice. Also touches the chord of family history: great-grandmother came from Ballyhaunis in a time of great poverty there. Her descendants have done well and prospered to be sure- but we know that those dreams fulfilled have been watered by many tears. This song is a great reminder of what was lost, and what we've gained.
Just found out my great grandfather was from Ballinrobe, Mayo, Ireland. O’Connor I’m crying because I can finally do some research about our families past, because my mother passed when I was young ❤️
So heartfelt! Recently had a lovely tour of Ireland and heard this song A Capella from a patron in a pub. What a beautiful experience in a beautiful land. We in North America have a great admiration for Ireland's people. UP County Mayo. UP Ireland.
I'm 6th generation Irish and have roots in County Mayo. My 3rd Great-Grandmother Bridget Dempsey moved to Preston Lancashire and is living there by 1841. In 1851 she's living with lots of Irish who have links to Foxford and the townland of Toomore: Barrett, Boyle, Byrne, Dogherty, Flanagan, Flynn, Foy, Gallagher, Gaughan, Hasty, Hughes, Kelly, Kneafsey, Loftus, McGowan, McHale, McManus, McNulty, McKeon, Moran, Murphy, Murray, Paddam, Quinn, Reed, Roach, Scott, Tunny and Walsh.
That's fantastic, I'm originally from Foxford now in London but moving back in the next couple of years as my parents and siblings are there. I have a video of foxford on my channel you might like. ☘️
My great-great-grandparents emigrated from Count Mayo in 1848. I visited there and found the old homestead in 1999. Part of my heart is in Ireland. Were I not American, County Mayo would be my home. BTW, Grace O'Malley hailed from the County Mayo as well!!
Found this video while looking for video of Ballyvary. My Grandfather who's a Costello is from Ballyvary. Looking for any good videos of Ballyvary? I would really love to see the area were my family lived.

my grandfather from co mayo foxford with his famer country men were lined before BLACK & Tans in Ireland to be executed all because they did not tell them what they wanted to hear. God bless the British comander that stopped the executing of Irish civilians.
I am from Scotland. But my great grandparents were from mayo. And in their later lives went back home to mayo. As they said it for them is heaven on earth. also when my Dad passed on. his friends played the song take me home to Mayo. on their flutes. it was a sad but very fitting tribute to my beloved dad. and one day me my wife and the rest of the family will take his ashes across the Irish sea to Mayo. so at long last he can lie beneath an Irish sky..RIEP DAD. I PROMISE U TO GIVE YOU YOUR WISH. TO LIE BENEATH AN IRISH SKY.....
