I was in Armagh on a number of occasions and often heard this song, though I was on the cold outside when such renderings came from places of entertainment. I lost three dear friends in the county, however I still look back with affection for all the people I met there, this song brings back fond memories of them all, many with hearts of solid Irish gold!
Heard two young girls sing this outside Croker on Sept 22, 2002 I just knew we'd win Sam after that... Brings a tear to the eye, a tear of utter joy. Ard Mhacha Abu
Thanks for explaining. I love your Irish music and your (sad) history. The typical sound and intonation in your songs. But most of all the pridness in all your songs warms my heart.
Hi Renger. The pics of London/Boston in this video, coincide with the part of the song where the writer is talking about when he left Ireland. Listen to the words closely and you will understand.
I worked in Boston with a Portadown man, a good carpenter and a real character. He used to sing this on the job, and I'd sing a verse of "de Banks" Great Days, 👍 😁 🔨 🌲 🇮🇪
Ireland is one country wether or not it’s divided! It could be such a better country if we just all united together, forget catholic or Protestant! One people, one nation!
My Nanna came from County Armagh to Perth. Armagh is Irish and always will be one day Ireland will be free she married Nicholas Boland projection is the answer, people have to be free we hope one day my Pop and Nanna share the dream in heaven
This is a song of lementing Irish Immigrants, in particular those native to the county Armagh. London and Boston were cities that were very popullar with people emmigrating from Ireland, hence their featuring at the point where wondering to "cities near or far" is mentioned in the song.
No matter what anyone says, Ireland is an island, how can you put a border on an island?! The people that claim to be from ‘northern Ireland’ are the people that were planted by the English monarchy, they’re an invasive species!
@@seansouth6380 It's still in the noethern part of Ireland, regardless of the political status. Anyway, plenty of islands are split between countries, so that's a pretty empty argument!
