Add USB ports to Cadillac CTS rear seats 2014-2019

Installation how-to for late model Cadillac CTS rear USB ports in your third generation Cadillac CTS, if not factory equipped.
Cadillac CTS models 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Standard, premium, V-Sport, or CTS-V, it covers all of them.
Requires sourcing a rear console panel from another vehicle or a new part. Check copart, e-bay, local salvage yards, craigslist, and facebook marketplace for parts. You're sure to find one at a great deal.
Preimum models have the fancy panel in the back for rear cliemate control and outboard seat position seat heaters. This is not something that can be retrofitted to a non-premium car to my knowledge, at least without replacing a huge amount of the wiring harness in the car which woudl require removal of major components like the center console and dashboard. This is not practical. At that point, buy a premium model if those features are that important to you.
As for the power plug to the newer style USB terminals, it is the same plug that you can find on many, many GM models so if you don't have the pigtail handy, you can get one from your local salvage yard pretty easily.

Good video Rich! To clarify, where did you get the male plug to go into the back of the USB ports?

Excellent question.
I was lucky that it came with the part that I purchased from an eBay parts breaker.
It is best to:
(1) see if your car’s harness has the updated plug already OR
(2) ensure the pigtail comes with the part.
If the above is not possible, one has to crimp terminals on the wire and connect them to the pins on the back of the usb port directly.
