    hi is there any way to make this base thicker? Id like my lipstick to be a full coverage pigmented lipsticks any recommendations?

    • @TheCarolynsWorld
      @TheCarolynsWorld 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kay Smif If you're making dark colors, just add more pigment. For less dark ones, you can use a bit of liquid titanium dioxide to make it more pigmented. To get full pigmentation, this does lighten the shade significantly so it's just something you have to play around with and keep adding small amounts of it or the pigment until you get the desired shade. You can get everything on their website. Really a great company to work with!

    • @taymudge
      @taymudge 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carolyns World yh i have the titanium dioxide but Ive not used it in the liquid lipstick but when usin the mormal lipstick base i find its hard to get it to totally dissolve if thats the right term i see little specks of white unless its dispersed.

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, by adding more pigments if you like it more creamy add more of the liquid colors (d&c red colorant dispersion), if more dryness is needed add dry colors, also more mica colors they will add texture but may also dry out the lips if added at a high concentration. Take notes so you can recreate a shade!

    • @TheCarolynsWorld
      @TheCarolynsWorld 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kay Smif As long as you're using the liquid titanium dioxide, there definitely shouldn't be any white flecks. I use it in my own liquid lipsticks and have never had that problem

    • @kathryncastanares525
      @kathryncastanares525 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kay Smif you can Pre-disperse your Titanium dioxide to help with the clumping and to get a smoother mix. and make sure you have the oil dispersable. im sure you already know that though. also, what i do to help the fact of the to lightening my shades, i mix in the to first, then add my colorants to my liking. It works for me, im not sure about anyone else as I've not heard of anyone trying it that way. But its definitely worth a shot! it keeps me from having to go back and add more color, then add more to, and so on.lol oh and i pre grind all my powders when i get them, then i strain them thru a fine mesh sieve as i add to my bases. it almost eliminates the clumping entirely. its more work up front, but saves you a ton of work during your "creation" time.lol i hope this helps. and i apologize if ive given you info you already have. lll

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, you'd have to buy the "liquid to matte lipstick base", then the colors shown in the video, choose the small sample sizes for micas and d&c red colorants, then a couple spatulas, couple syringes, and Sala-lip gloss containers, we also have a double sided, so you can have two colors, and can blend on the lips :) We'll have a full kit soon too.

    Is it possible to use dry pigments with this base?

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can use dry red 6, 7, 40 etc but you'll need less of it and you will need to blend well. We do not recommend using dry iron oxide pigments, as they need to be dispersed first before adding to the base.

    • @caribbeanaffairstv4165

      Kimberly Gefferie are you referring to this lipstick base she is using in this video? Im sure you're not, but just incase i thought I'd let you know that this is a liquid lipstick that will not set up in a mold.lol again, im sure you're not, just letting you know just in case.lol

    • @kathryncastanares525
      @kathryncastanares525 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kimberly Gefferie also, if you are talking about regular lipstick, to help getting them out of your mold, you should add a mold release agent, or some regular olive oil to your mold before pouring in your lipstick. You can also put your molded lipstick into the freezer for 15-20 minutes before unmolding and that should help a ton. i make a lot of cosmetics and these methods are what help me. and hope they will be of some help to others:)

    Can I do it with synthetic mica pigments to create duochrome and multicrome colors?

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We recommend to use liquid D&C colors (www.makingcosmetics.com/Organic-Liquid-Colors_c_36.html) as primary coloring agents in lipstick products since they provide an intense coloring effect and are easy to formulate with since they are already pre-dispersed. Micas can be added to add some shimmer, but micas are generally not used as primary pigments in lipstick products since their coloring capability is rather weak.

    • @Makingcosmetics

      The reducer is best put on the rod/the applicator, push it all the way up to the silver or gold end. Then close the lip gloss container, screw it on tight and when you unscrew it again the little reducer will be left stuck in the vial ;)

    Please respond. What bottle size of the liquid lipstick base was used? 1.8 ($10) or 6.4 ($27) oz? And is anything else needed (softners, thickeners, etc) or can one just use the base and a colorant and thats it?

      I believe the video shows the small 1.8oz jar. All you need are colors, and the vials for the finish lip stick. You can also buy the kit it has the base and colors, and vials please check here: www.makingcosmetics.com/Matte-Liquid-Color-Lipstick-Kit_p_1185.html. No other ingredients are needed.

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can heat the lipstick a bit to make it package easier, however you will still have to use a syringe, the tip needs to be clean, just wipe it before you fill, then the opening doesn't get clogged to much. Inject a bit then tap the vial, inject again and tap and so on until full.

    hello, can you mix brown and neutral colors with the dyes and micas from the kit?

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a good neutral base is adding a tiny (really tiny) bit of iron oxide dispersion. This gives a neutral base color. Then you add red micas such as the sugar blush, or bordeaux red to give it a reddish nude color. For stronger nuede shades combine the iron oxide brown dispersion, with d&c red 6 or 7 dispersion (again very small amounts as they are strong colorants, you can always increase later), this gives a stronger nude color. Then add micas for variation of shades. Pearlwhite mica will help making it more opaque or gives cream colors.

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Titanium dioxide does make the color lighter. In fact, it is widely used as whitener to lighten up colors. If you want to darken the colors you would have to a black pigment.

  • @mystieduphy6054
    @mystieduphy6054 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, I was wondering if you could use the white liquid lipstick color, and still mix in the Micas for the primary pigment?

    • @mystieduphy6054
      @mystieduphy6054 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or if I can use just Micas?

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use a white dispersion (that consists of titanium dioxide for example) and use this to make it opaque, then adding colored micas. The color will turn out very pale (due to the titanium dioxide) with a tint of color. Could work for some nude natural shades.

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you use color dispersions? They usually moisturize a bit too. To many dry colorants can make it dry. You can also add a few drops of an emollient, mineral oil or another plant oil and this may help as well. Opaque, and pastel you will get with added titanium dioxide, use the titanium dioxide makeup, it's a dispersion also for easy use.

    sorry if this is a dumb question but what are the micas for ? please answer xxx

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The micas give a bit of sheen and color variation, you can change hues to bronze with mica bronze or toward pink with carmine red and mix many more shades. They will not have intense coloring, so for intense shades, or a good base color use the d&c red colors, and other dispersion that we have.

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, use pigments already dispersed, usually they don't streak, or a combination of color dispersions and d&c red dry colors. Iron oxide dry colors are most difficult as they do need to pre-dispersed with an emollient, and blended with mortar and pestle before adding to the base, or they will streak.

      pau saki can I use propylene glycol or glycerin to disperse iron oxide? Which is better?

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are using our lipstick base we suggest using an ingredient already present in the formulation to "wet" the pigments, we also tested mineral oil and it blends well with the base. Iron oxide pigments disperse best in a carrier oil (emollient), we do not have them dispersed in glycerin or propylene glycol. Our Iron Oxide Brown Dispersion is a mixture of yellow, red and black iron oxides, already dispersed, and works well for a nude base color, use sparingly.

      pau saki you can use oils!! Great way to add essential oil to your formula. You do NOT have to wet Micah pigments. Just oxides

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes because this is already a component in the base so it should mix. Use d&c red colors and micas. If you have a dispersion, no need to pre-disperse. Even d&c red sin powder form did mix pretty well with the base, without pre-dispersing.

  • @pausaki4784

    how will i disperse iron oxide pigments?

    • @Makingcosmetics
      @Makingcosmetics  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need to disperse when buying our iron oxide dispersions, or one product that contains (black, yellow and red) called Iron Oxide Brown Dispersion. However, when wetting the pigments yourself please check the pigment wetting video. You will need an emollient (one that is already present in the base) to do that or you can also use mineral oil, use mortar and pestle.
