Great Vid! Whats your opinnion on Kickstart 2? I use it to Sidechain the Kick and 808 (Also on Melodys sometimes)
Thanks 🙏 it’s cool and fast and if I remember correctly, version 2 has an option to filter frequencies. By far it’s the “healthiest” way to duck bass. As I said in the video tho - if you’re looking for the pumping sound, there’s nothing wrong with that
@Zdrewe thank you man. I also used the envolope follower technique, but for me personally I like the sound from Kickstart 2 more. Maybe it's because my 808's have already a "kick" in it and thats because I like the "ducking" effect more.
@Pature sure thing, if you use 808 with a lot of attack, ducking method is a go to majority of times. We could go into details like layering those two kicks, aligning phase and bla bla bla but just like I said in this video between the lines - whatever works for you!
The secret is to gain match everything, then listen. Do whatever you want, then just choose the version that sounds good.
That's not even good advice, never mind a secret! 😅I get my mixes sounding great by sending them to a mix engineer to mix.. that's the real secret 😉

I did for the last 9 months a deeply focus on certain things to improve quality. I decided to take a time apart from making music and concentrating on quality. Now I’ll return to making music, learnt enough and I‘ll be really excited too see how it‘ll be now with way more deep understanding
Don't expect those 9 months of deep focus to have improved your ears much unless the 9 months deep focus was spent listening to music. I'm saying that whilst making assumptions about what "concentrating on quality" equates to but also as someone who once said similar things and looked in all the wrong places for all the answers to the wrong questions
When I started I used to send almost everything to aux reberb track but now I don’t. I want only specific sounds to have reverb on and tailored to them. So instead I use effect on the sound, but most of the time as an effect chain on 100% wet and dry chain. Helps me to edit and listen to sound and effect separatelly if need to.
I feel that it also depends on a genre. For more “classical” sounding ones like pop, rock or even trap, auxes work great and can glue the mix. Speaking of EDM, there are no rules honestly
It can just be an artistic choice though, I once bussed my violins to a reverb aux panned to the opposite side of the original signal and used automation to make it sound like the swells were being catapulted from the left to the right. It sounding incredible.
Normal listners don't even care if your mix is literally perfect or not. they just want good song with decent mix. prime example of this is imanbek remix that won grammary
The best mixed songs hardly have much going on in them.

Would you mind elaborating on why it's a good idea mixing into a limiter? I don't really get it :D
As short as possible, mixing into it helps to level things correctly (if you’re not great at leveling) plus you can spot any conflicts like kick and bass early on. Then you can decide on either re-leveling or applying sidechain/frequency ducking. I linked my video where I explained it during the process

@@scole402 It's not a particularly good idea. It's not inherently a bad idea either.
I like what I've seen of this guys channel so far. He's right about a lot of the youtube crap that gets thrown around and adopted unconditionally by noobs, but the same applies here. You shouldn't come away from watching a youtube video saying "ok I'm gonna do that from now on".
Everything is subjective, situation dependant and genre dependant. Sometimes I only have saturation on the master. Sometimes I have nothing on the master at all.
There's only one bit of advice in music production that is universal great advice and would benefit almost anyone if upon hearing it they said "OK I'm gonna do that from now on" and that is... reference more
@bitemyshite honestly I can’t agree more. I think the problem lies in how people interpret all of those mixing, mastering and producing videos (my ones as well). From all the comments you left here already I’m pretty sure we’re on the same page in therms of adopting knowledge and probably even the experience we have. It’s not that everything you see online will instantly apply to your music with great results. Best example is how people (including myself) tried to use the advice from early TH-cam tutorials into their music - except those videos mainly focused on live recordings while we tried to use tips on our programmed drums (for example). It’s really hard to put some people on the right path even if you disclose everything before delivering the advice

These are the kinds of music production channels youtube needs but not the one's it often gets because how do you monetise good advice that steers people away from products and snake oil? lol no one is gonna sponsor the guy who says "oh btw you can make radio ready songs with ableton live 7 and free plugins". It leads to these weird anomalies where the best channels with the best advice are way less successful than the worst channels with crap advice and an affiliate link to a plugin that's gonna fix all your problems. People want to believe there's a trick or they want to buy a fix, instead of listening to the real advice and putting the work in. They get lost in these useless echo chambers on youtube instead of listening to the guy who wins grammys with stock plugins
