But ya I was mildly amused by that commercial showing, Dragon Ball characters, Tiny Toons, and Yoshi all together, didn't recognize who the dragon quest guy was supposed to be as I never played the series.
That sounds like one of those jokes with people walking into bars.

There are two game boys representing the dark blue, atomic purple and dark blue.
Pokémon gold and silver were the best selling games for the Gameboy Colour back in the days
Pokemon G/S are actually regular Game Boy games, they just have enhancements when played on GBC. Most of these GBC enhanced games are on black carts, and Japanese G/S actually are on black carts, but the international releases got an exemption from the color scheme because this was the heyday of Pokemania.
Crystal is a GBC game through and through, though. You can trick it into running on a GB, but the results are... not pretty.
The greatest addition in the gameboy color was actually an DMA unit.
On the original gameboy, to copy data around, you had to use the CPU and that was painfully slow way to do it, being around 30KB/s, give or take.
But on the GBC, you could copy stuff at 8MB/s, which allowed all those fancy things such as playing videos, games hitting the 60 FPS target a lot more often (but this one is also due the much better screen and improved battery life, as devs would use 30FPS or less to save on battery on the original GB), streamed audio..

I had this weird dream last night where there was a whole spin-off series specifically about talking Pokemon teaming up to go on missions in randomly generated dungeons!
Now that Detective Pikachu has finally introduced a Pokemon that speaks human language for the first time, maybe Nintendo will have the the confidence to make a real game like that.

EVERY time I've seen/heard a reference to Gunpei Yokoi, it's always that picture of him with his palms toward the camera and his fingers spread, as though he's explaining something rather compelling. There must not exist many public pictures of him.
Factcheck:
The Game Boy Light was NOT backlit and neither was the original model Game Boy Advance SP. They had a front-light instead.
The actual first Nintendo Handheld to be backlit was the Nintendo DS.
I cried because of the song: It's the theme of surface SR388 from Metroid 2. The first video game ever what I played.
That Super Mario Land 2 music was really nostalgic

Small correction to the episode: the Game Boy Color only launched in purple and transparent purple. The other colors didn't come along until several months later

Wait, what? I'm pretty certain that there were anime episodes dedicated to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games that featured talking Pokemon long before Detective Pikachu... right? I'm not hallucinating this?
Not to mention, Detective Pikachu only had two talking pokemon in the movie.
So then why just ignore Meowth from the anime?
And one of those 2 was Mewtwo, who has already talked in at least 2 other movies. Also Lapras talked to Ash in the anime too.

@@backlogbuddies I couldn't tell you why, but I interpreted "wanted Pokemon to talk" literally. As in, not a single Pokemon speaking, but two Pokemon talking to each other, which is why I used the Mystery Dungeon example.

adventureoflinkmk2 isn’t your human created time based age of earth based on orbit of the sun not times moving around the earth? Otherwise if I flew on on plane around the earth, you’re telling me I’d be older? Which isn’t true.
But what could be a more true statement is how the closer you are to a gravitational center, the Earth in our case, universal time moves faster. So you could techimically state that because the game was far away for long enough, it’s time moved slightly slower than on the earth, so it is actually younger.

Did you know? The default color palette used when playing DMG games on a Gameboy Color/Advance was chosen to make Metroid 2 match the first Metroid. This was to honor Gunpei Yokoi, not only for his work on the Gameboy, but also for his work on both Metroid games.

Playing Game Boy in space. Those are some vibes right there. Just imagine, you're flying a ship, you're in the cockpit, leaned back, chilling. Nothing important going on so you're just kinda drifting around waiting for something to happen. You pull out your Game Boy and start playing some Zelda.

1990. In a K-mart in Troy Michigan. My grand mother bought me a GameBoy to help me overcome my fear of heights for a flight home the following day. I ran those batteries bone dry and the second set half dead. Tetris came with the console and I played it until my fingers hurt. Barely noticed being on the plane.

You know, I had an idea for a Game Boy Classic Edition, and I think this Gameboy Classic Edition should have these features:
-Have the same saving features as the NES Classic Edition
-Have a backlit screen while still having the games in black-&-white with green coloring that the console is known for
-Have the model be shaped after the Gameboy Pocket with all different kinds of colors (or get a special original model Gameboy version which costs more, but is a great collectors item)
-Have wireless connectivity to other Gameboys for multiplayer & digital TVs to play the games on it with added color like it's a Super Gameboy
-Have a rechargeable battery that can charge through a USB cable
and these would be the games:

I would've thought so, but articles from various wikis I'm reading describe it as having an "electroluminescent backlight". The only source I can find is in Japanese though, so I can't say for sure. It's a really interesting and obscure piece of hardware either way!

Actually the first gameboy to be BACKLIT was the gameboy advance SP, but the first gameboy to have a light at all was the gameboy light
Well, as some people points out this was simple lifted most of the info from the old one. There were some misinfomation here that I noticed.
- The Game Boy Light didn't had backlit screen, but frontlit instead. Same with the first release of the GBA SP actually. It didn't had backlit screen either until the later release, modeled AGS-101 that had a backlit screen. (Nintendo even labeled this feature on the box)
- We have no concrete evidence that the dancing man cameo on the Game Boy Camera is Shigeru Miyamoto. That's just guessing at that part.

Did anyone notice the GameBoy showed in the beginning of the video (0:05) looked different than the usual GameBoy? The logo is off, saying just "GameBoy" while the Nintendo logo is at the bottom left.

Did you know? Nintendo's handhelds have always used low-resolution screens, with GB, GBC and GBA using 144p, and DS/DSi/3DS using 240p. PSP and Vita used 480p and 576p (Vita had OLED screen too).
Fact: Gunpei Yokoi was actually the father of Princess Daisy and Wario while he was alive.
A bit contractory to say that the Color was a modest upgrade and say it was twice as powerful right after. While it didn't get as popular as the Advance it was most definitely a whole new system.

Project Atlantis did not become the Gameboy Advance they were two separate handhelds. Project Atlantis was canceled and was replaced by the GBA.
