Amazing video as always. Manchester United is the most popular Premier League in Ecuador (thanks to Antonio Valencia) for now, although Brighton and Hove Albion's popularity is rapidly rising thanks to Caicedo, Estupiñán and Sarmiento
@dansouthlondon9873 Brighton pretty much fill their stadium for every game, and have been since the Championship. They had more fans for their Wembley semi-final than Man City did for theirs. Man City who are likely to be Champions of England. They often had the highest average attendances of all the teams in the Championship.
Manchester United is so popular in India because when Premier league first started broadcasting in India, they were the most dominant team. But there is huge support for Liverpool, Chelsea and recently Manchester City as well

He makes the most interesting videos & definitely one of, if not the best football channels on here. The research he does is great and even the most dedicated football historian will learn something new from his videos!
Mitoma is so exciting to watch, and like Son in Korea, it’s no surprise Brighton has become so popular in Japan. After the World Cup I imagine more Japanese and Korean players will join top teams in Europe this summer.
Thanks for remembering Solano's legacy. As a peruvian, I still recognize him to be an standard to call for some countrymen. Sadly, we have not been able to raise a young Star :(
Brazil is crazy for PL. I think Liverpool and Chelsea are the most popular, but Arsenal and United are close. Is hard to split this 4 tbf. Here, the PL is amazingly covered by ESPN Brazil since 2003-04 if I no mistaken, here we can watch every single game via Star+, ESPN’s streaming and is now by far the most popular foreign league.
very weird since almost all of the brazilian greats like ronaldo, ronaldinho, romario and rivaldo never played in England but in Spain and Italy. Even Neymar didn't play in England.
@@footballchannel8430 That's because despite the PL being the most popular league in Brazil, it is still not as popular as the Champions League. Real Madrid and Barcelona are by far the most popular european clubs in Brazil.
@@ultrasonico5709 yeah and probably because all those legends I mentioned played 20/30 years ago, when Serie A was at it's best and La Liga was also really good. But in the last 15 years Brazil had no real all time great apart from neymar, and even he is debatable
I'm a Liverpool fan, but i think Chelsea is the most popular football club in Ghana. Chelsea's success in the 21st century coincided with the boom of premier League in Ghana. The PL viewership became significant in Ghana in the early 2000s when sports viewing centres in Ghana became a prominent business. This gave access to more people to watch PL football cos it was never broadcasted on local tv stations. This was the time Mourinho came to Chelsea and many people here loved his boastful character coupled with his love for African players. Signing Essien was the biggest point. Essien at that time was considered the best Ghanaian player at that time. Young people who were born in Ghana in the 90s and 2000s make up more than half of the PL fans population in Ghana. And most of these young people support Chelsea because of their first acquaintance with PL football coincided with these important events in Chelsea's history.
I lived in Ghana for a couple years (from the US and am a Liverpool fan as well!) and I agree. Chelsea is huge in Ghana and I'd say they're probably the biggest. I saw more Manchester United and Chelsea jerseys/stickers/notebooks than I did anything from other clubs, with Chelsea probably being the winner by a decent number.
When I worked in Addis Ababa for a year in 2014, I was the lone Manchester United supporter in the local bar I frequented to watch Premier League and took a lot of stick from the 70 or so Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal supporters, but they were always welcoming whenever I showed up. I once showed up 15 minutes late to a packed house, so the owner let me sit on the barrel behind the bar, knowing I would be the only patron who wouldn't be tempted to dip their hand in the till. The screen was a white bedsheet that rippled in the breeze.
All the fans I talked to supported one supported one premier league team and either Real Madrid or Barcelona. The national team never seemed to win anything unlike their long distance runners. One family had 3 world record holders and the local joke was that Mr Dibaba had been given a contract to sire the 2034 team.
@@finegoldstones well not football related but here's one. A new middle class family would build the family home as a single level dwelling, then as savings permitted they would build the second floor or even a third. Cement for the project would arrive by donkey train, with 8 donkeys fully loaded with 4 x 50kg bags. Once unloaded, the donkeys took off home leaving the owner to run to keep up. Donkeys always followed their original route and had good road sense and were the only regular users of the Zebra crossing. Dogs and the odd escaped sheep who wanted to cross the busy road would wait to cross with the donkeys.
Ecuador loves Brighton! They have both Stupiñan and Moises Caicedo, plus Sarmiento coming off the bench. First time a prem team has more than 2 ecuadorians!
Come support Arsenal as well... hopefully Brighton will be good enough to allow Caicedo to come in the summer, lets all stop this Man City domination 😋😊
As a Pole, I was initially surprised about Arsenal being the most popular, but I guess it's all due to Szczęsny, Fabiański and recently Kiwior being at the club. I thought Liverpool could have been a good shout, because of the 2005 CL final and Jerzy Dudek being a key player of this match.
As an Englishman who grew up in Australia, Liverpool is the most popular team here in my opinion (Arsenal fan). I believe this because of the amount of Liverpool fans I see/know and primarily because Harry Kewell was outstanding for them. Leeds is also relatively popular here for Viduka and Kewell.
I think he's right about Man United being the most popular here but it isn't by much. The older a person is the more likely they are to be a Liverpool fan, I'd say Millenials are Man United fans while Gen Xers tend to be Liverpool fans since those were the dominant teams when they were growing up.
@@poonoo87 I myself am from Gen Z (17) and thats why I think Liverpool is more popular here because a lot of the Liverpool fans I know are either supporting them now because of their success or supported them because their parents did as they where successful in the 70s and 80s
Yep, as a 50 year Aussie Spurs fan, I would definitely say Liverpool are a clear number 1 here. Don't forget there was a 95.000 + crowd here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground a few short years go.

I thought Arsenal might be Japan’s most popular team due to the Wenger and Tomiyasu connection but I guess that was wishful thinking. Roma did a tour of Japan last year during the World Cup that seemed to attract a lot of fans, so I’d be curious to see where they factor in the overall popularity rankings for that country.
@@GrahamMilkdrop No not wishful thinking, Wenger coached Nagoya Grampus, who he led to an Emperor's Cup victory in 1995, He came to Arsenal after, I know he bought a player from there and several others, and we now have a player from the national team of Japan, in our squad at present, young Tomi, injured at present.
Man united reins supreme in Portugal, due not only to Ronaldo, but also to players like Nani, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and a lot of players that came from Portuguese clubs that are not portuguese, like Victor Lindelof for example. Wolverhampto Wanderers was really popular for a while, due to them having basically a "Portuguese takeover", but it has faded a bit in the last couple of seasons
Most crazy stat in this video is that the premier league is broadcasted in 188 of the world's 93 countries, I thought there was way more and somehow they broadcast it to more than double the amount of countries!
its hard to imagine man utd been the most popular team in greece , since with liverpool had two greek players the last 2 decades while utd had 0 and also what liverpool represent as a club , hard working class , the fact that many greeks when to live in liverpool and then return after few years , in general i believe that like me that i am a bif fun of liverpool since 2005 where it crash olympiakos and went to win the champions league the way it did against milan i feel most around my age feels this way
No way Man Utd are the biggest English club in Greece... Liverpool have had a massive tradition in the country, fed by the over-exposure of the team in the 80s by the State Television. As a result, this helped generate a legion of sports journalists overwhelmingly favoured towards Liverpool, to the extent of propagandising in their favor. Liverpool are extremely mainstream there, well beyond United, who only took off there in the 00s. PS: I'm a Liverpool fan too.
2:15 “there’s only so many times you can mention Liverpool and Manchester United before you lose the will to live.” Is brilliant, had me laughing out loud.
Would love a follow-up that is not limited to the EPL clubs :). I suppose you already have that data lined up after doing research for this one. Tifo recently made a video where they were "surprised" that Bayern are selling the most football kits of any club and I would not be surprised if they are very popular in some countries as well because of their extensive expansion in recent years. And I am, of course, still hoping for that Austrian Wunderteam video 😇✌.
This is very recent but Manchester City is becoming increasingly popular in Argentina because of Julián Álvarez, especially since his incredible performance in the last world cup. Argentinians rarely support foreign teams tho, they'll watch their internationals play oversea but will just care about their performance and not necessarily the team's performance.
Manchester City tuvo grandes jugadores argentinos y representativos de cuatro de los cinco clubes grandes: Agüero (Independiente), Tévez (Boca Juniors), Álvarez (River) y Zabaleta (San Lorenzo).
It would’ve been fun to discover that some lesser known teams were popular in various countries, but probably not that realistic. You have a really good sense of humour! This was a very ambitious project to set for yourself and congratulations on sticking with it and making the video. I’m sure many people would have given up partway through researching it. I thoroughly enjoyed this video - thank you very much for making it! (Edit: clarity)
There was a small boom for Leicester in Italy the year that Ranieri won the league, many people were following the league title of the foxes, then the next year after how players and board treated Ranieri and sack him the interest for Leicester disappear.
Maybe now there's more streaming and on-demand people will get to know some of the less known teams. Until pretty recently, there were only 4- 6 games shown per weekend, and they usually picked the games for the 'Big Six' teams.
Great video as always! In the Czech Republic, I get the sense that Arsenal are almost as popular as Chelsea among people 35 or under, thanks to Tomáš Rosický. For older generations, Manchester United and Liverpool might be more popular, thanks to players like Poborský and Berger. West Ham also have a lot of support, I guess we love seeing our players play in the Prem!
Ohhhhh!! Ahem.....I've lived in South Korea for 15 years and while Spurs are the most supported with teenagers and people in their 20s, the 30s and above are all still Man United fans due to Park Ji Seong and continue to support them for that reason. Younger Koreans are also pretty fairweather and will change who they support from year to year and you'll find few who supported Leverkusen when Son played there. Also, saying it's only because of Son Heung Min, is missing the fact the Lee Yeong Pyo played left back for Spurs for 70 games. So Koreans got a taste for Spurs back then.

Most of the Liverpool fans that I know in Southeast Asia probably grew up in the 80s when TV become widely available to the public and they watch Liverpool dominate the English game. And for Man Utd's fans that I know, mostly grew up in the 90s and the 00s.
I'd love to chip in here and explain why Arsenal are New Zealand's most popular club, rather than Liverpool... but I can only agree - which is part of the reason I was drawn to Arsenal in the mid 80's when most others here supported LFC or (even worse), ManU. Hopefully an EPL title will help us lift our numbers in the Arsenal NZ Supporters Club (I'm only partly serious). Another interesting video - thanks Alfie!
Also for Liverpool in the United States, Lebron James is a part owner and the main owners are also Americans. That second point still might explain United and Arsenal (and also FIFA video games having Arsenal listed first in team selections).
I guess it might be due to those clubs being the first introduced to America early on, but I’d imagine Leeds and Chelsea taking spots (even though for the latter Pulisic is likely to leave)

I can tell you for certain that Chelsea is the most popular club in Nigeria, even more popular than Madrid and Barcelona, thanks to John Mikel Obi. It is considered as the club of the 'street' in contrast to Man United and Arsenal that are club of the elites which is the reason the internet search pattern favor those clubs more. Liverpool is the club supported by older people that were privileged to witness English football in the 1980s

We had travelled miles up the Kinabatangan River (Fresh water crocodiles, Monkeys, Pigmy elephants, Hornbills,Orangutans,Sun Bears etc) to a place called Abai Jungle lodge where we spent 2 nights. On the 2nd night having come back from a boat trip watching all the wildlife that lives within the Jungle the people working at the lodge went off for a couple of hours. At 11pm Malaysian time they all came back into the lodge wearing Liverpool shirts. Set up a TV and we all sat and watched Liverpool v Man City. It was a bizzare experience, hours from anywhere, in a Jungle late at night and watching Liverpool v Man City.............
I’m Kenyan( and an Arsenal fan) and while Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are all popular here, I can assure you that Man United are definitely the most supported…Chelsea might even be third after Arsenal…
Have to say i disagree on you saying Manchester United are the most popular team in Australia as Liverpool are massive in Australia in large part in thanks to Harry Kewell and managing to attract a massive crowd of 95,000 fans for our game against melbourne though that was over 10 years ago.
Idk it feels like Liverpool is the most loved Club here. A lot of people I know have Liverpool as their English team, I rarely seen any Chelsea fans though, but idk
I was also very surprised by this. I thought it would be Liverpool because of Klopp. Also I am under the impressionmost Germans see Chelsea as a club which just became big because of Abramovic and normally German football fans really don't like clubs which were made big thanks to investors.
in New Zealand, Burnley have had lots of support over the last few years due to Chris Wood. West Ham are also quite well supported due to a lot of expats from East London moving here.
Great video, as usual. Here in Colombia, I get the impression that Manchester United has more following than Chelsea, and in more recent years Liverpool are also becoming very popular thanks to Luis Díaz. Chelsea have a good amount of fans here, as well as Arsenal, but I would say ManUnited are slightly bigger than those other three. Also, an honorable mention to Newcastle and Aston Villa, thanks to Asprilla and Juan Pablo Angel
Not sure how you counted your Australian fans Alfie, but Liverpool jammed 95,000 into the MCG against Melbourne victory. United only managed 75k against the same team.
When I was on holiday in Montenegro I was shocked by how celebrated FC Barcelona we’re with merch just about everywhere. I didn’t really get the link, but sounds like if a country has nothing local, Barcelona really is one of the most likely defaults
Whenever there aren’t any local connections, some Eastern Europeans like rooting for a player “from the neighborhood”. Barca signed two prominent Balkan players in the 90s - Stoichkov, who was the best player on the dream team - and later, Hagi. The most prominent Montenegro player ever is Dejan Savićević who played for AC Milan and won a UCL. However he was generally under appreciated by the Italian club so I’m not surprised that the locals don’t remember Milan fondly.
Not even, those who respect Radebe are older generations. Younger generations tend to support the traditional big 4. Simply because of how the league was marketed in the 2000s/10s

Real Madrid & Barcelona have remained consistent for decades in terms of winning the league, whereas in England big teams can go decades without a league title. Liverpool went 30 years, Arsenal 19 years and Man United 10 years which effects their appeal. Man City will probably overtake most of them in the next few years
I think Liverpool's popularity have grown past Chelsea's in Colombia, mainly because of Luis Diaz being the main man of the National Team at the moment
For Australia it’s Leeds. In the 2000’s they had Kewell and Viduka and therefore there is a huge Leeds fanbase in Australia. But that’s outside of the A-League teams

I may be wrong here but in Malta i think that title would go to Manchester United. Malta was a British colony for a long while but the cultural and geographic ties to Italy (Malta is just south of Sicily) means alot of Italian clubs have decent fanbases too, with the El classico clubs and the likes of Bayern also having a decently large community of supporters. However i think it's united who take the crown due to the long ties between the two. To start although Utd have never had a Maltese player, Malta does lay host to the oldest ever Manchester United supporters club (yes even including supporter clubs in the UK), On top of this, Man Utd recently signed a sponsorship deal with Malta's tourism authority (which is why you see visit Malta ads at old trafford), that coupled with the fact that it's not the first time Man Utd legends have had a very warm welcome in Malta makes me think Utd may be the most supported club of all in the country (although several Italian teams like Juve, Inter and Milan and even prem clubs like Liverpool) may also challenge that statment. Despite that and the fact Maltese clubs almost never make it into European competitions, Many Maltese clubs maintain decent supporter bases in the country, this doesn't mean the most supported club in Malta is Maltese but that local clubs give some competition, It is also a common Phenomenon in Malta that people have a local and foreign club they hold close to their heart. In conclusion, i think Manchester United is the most supported prem club here in Malta if not possibly the most supported club of all, although i may also be wrong. (If you read to this point, thank you for taking the time to)

Wolverhampton Wanderers have a huge following in China because of owners Fosun Corporation. There's a huge number of supporters in Mexico as well because of Raul Jimenez and South Korea because of Hwang Hee-chan. They are also popular in Portugal because they have had and currently have a number of Portuguese players within their ranks.

Having spent time in Sweden, and before having watched in full (so not sure if it got mentioned) I got the feeling that Liverpool was the most popular club there
I have been getting a sense that support for Liverpool has been growing quite a lot in South Africa of late but when thinking about United's popularity it makes sense, Satellite television was only really launched around 1995 in South Africa which coincided with the best years of United, so many people getting in to international football at the time would've seen and followed the success of United alongside it. Thought Liverpool would've edged it because of the strong South African connection (The Kop, first International manager, and Grobelaar being born in South Africa) but I think the timing of television had a much bigger say
Supersport really made the support for United grow. Similarly in my country especially for us 90s babies going forward, quite a large number were United and perhaps Arsenal as well. Liverpool are a team for the old heads who read about Liverpool in the news when they used to dominate in 80s.

Essien 😊

Older poles will remember Liverpool winning 1 UCL final - and losing another one - to Boniek’s Juventus teams. What an underrated player he was!

Don't forget Craig Johnston when Liverpool dominated the 1970's 80's
I think he's right about Man United being the most popular here but it isn't by much. The older a person is the more likely they are to be a Liverpool fan, I'd say Millenials are Man United fans while Gen Xers tend to be Liverpool fans since those were the dominant teams when they were growing up.
@@poonoo87 I myself am from Gen Z (17) and thats why I think Liverpool is more popular here because a lot of the Liverpool fans I know are either supporting them now because of their success or supported them because their parents did as they where successful in the 70s and 80s

Nothing to do with Carlos tevez or Sergio "kun" augero???

Also for Liverpool in the United States, Lebron James is a part owner and the main owners are also Americans. That second point still might explain United and Arsenal (and also FIFA video games having Arsenal listed first in team selections).

Didn't Man U have a S African keeper for a while?
@@rogink no but they had a South African midfielder in Quinton Fortune
Supersport really made the support for United grow. Similarly in my country especially for us 90s babies going forward, quite a large number were United and perhaps Arsenal as well. Liverpool are a team for the old heads who read about Liverpool in the news when they used to dominate in 80s.
@@rogink yeah, Gary Bailey was not the best but he was a strong connection at the time
Literally every South African I've seen on social media or met in real life is a United fan
In Austria the most popular foreign club is Real Madrid due to David Alaba followed by Bayern Munich. No Idea which Premier League Team is the most popular but I suppose its Chelsea or Manchester United.
Do one for most popular international team across the world.
In Denmark, brentford seems to be pretty popular, understandably. Although not at the level of Liverpool or united
I'm surprised that Man U is the most supported team here in the Netherlands. I really expected Arsenal, as I hear that one far more frequently than Man U
Man Utd mainly due to RVP and RVN plus Man Utd have a Dutch manager rn so that explain why
@@BigSmokeMUFC That's true. I was just surprised, as I hear Arsenal as a common second team here, far more than United. And Arsenal also has some Dutch heritage with RVP, Overmars, and Bergkamp
@@lthecatt9667 very true
In a couple of years Wrexham is going to be the most popular club in the US😂
Should do a video of all clubs and popularity around the world. You'd be amazed the amount of Celtic and rangers fans round the world and how many visit. And that's without glory humters
Video request - the forever spoken about but never actioned plans to amalgamate 2 or more of the following leagues: Scotland, Ireland, N.Ireland and Wales.
