【Kudo】Hard sparring on a certain day

  • In my dojo, we don't usually engage in intense sparring while wearing the head protector. However, on this particular day, due to the gathering of individuals who wished for it, intense sparring took place.
Nevertheless, even if it is intense, it is strictly sparring, in other words, practice. It's not competition. Both parties must strive to control their emotions and techniques, ensuring that no one gets injured.

I started training kyokushin back in the late 80s, when sosai Mas Oyama was still alive and all was different (even back then we had annual seminars with great kyokushin masters from around the globe) and in my dojo (one of if not the biggest in the country) nobody knew what a protector was. Every thursday we had sparrings (bare knuckle, bare shins!) WAY harder than what they show in the video and we have considered that just a normal sparring. Nobody complained or took it personally. Bruises and blue legs were common and broken ribs were not that rare, but the street fighters were affraid of us (and for a good reason!). I remember a guy from Angola (brown belt), who was a student and was training with us, was badly KO-ed with a pretty hard ushiro geri (spinning back kick) and after that he could not spar for 6 months (never stopped training though!).So, calling this video hard sparring is a bit of a stretch for me. Other than that Takashi Azuma was always an idol of mine and I have always admired his open mind. Kudo is the next step from kyokushin and was WAY ahead of its time. It beatifully combines the power of kyokushin (unmatched diversity of KO grade kicks), the speed and foot work of boxing and last, but not least the strngth and agility of judo. Unfortunately, boxing in Japan is not that well developed (Naoya Inoue is great, but he is more of an exception) and we can clearly see this in the video. With all the respect, these guys can't box for shit - no guard/bad defence, telegraphed and unfocused punches, plus their foot work is way below where it should be for kudo black belts! Currently, the majority of the best kudo fighters are in Russian federation (my personal opinion, even though I strongly do not support what they are doning in Ukraine), which is pretty normal, because they have the great Soviet boxing legacy (proven many times in the past and present), thremendous kyokushin community and traditionally great judo/sambo dojos.

@@KaoruWatanabe-nz2wl Start learning boxing! That is what vastly improved my footwork, agility and punching power. I also learned a lot about distance control and how to punch without telegraphing. Karate will not help you there. Good luck!

@@sethplate7176and then you woke up and the bed was mysteriously wet 😂😂 Dude why are you writing 3 pages of something thats not even logical? Kushin is usually no punching to the head so clearly they dont use protex they just punch to the stomatch! Kudo is head punching too! Didnt you get the Art or what is the issue? Btw Kyokushin is also huge BS kickboxing wannabe Karate. For ex watching 100 men fraud Judd training vids they train 100% like Muay Thai using Thai Kick techs and boxing pads with gloves. Then they put on Gis and punching eachother under the head. Also that 100 men video are mostly opponents from a way lower level that are doing some real seeming Choreo. The inventors of Kushin even send themselves teachers to Hollywood and Co to reach high society thats why it is so popular cuz rich kids can practice some Muay Thai without getting punched on the nose. Kudo at least does the full range with throws and all if its for Kyokushin just do MT.

Ngl those headgear looks uncomfortable as fuck. Just imagine the fog from breathing so hard and the smudges from your opponents sweaty hands.

Lol sorry but this is not intense
I love that you pressure test safely, but it’s important to know the difference between popping shots off and trying you land hard hits.
    This is just light sparring
