    I love the fact that they're showing the old movies from the 70s like Jaws & Star Wars & older ones as well.Something I want to take my kids(& grand kids) to see,not just for the movies but just for the experience like I had!

      @Amy Sternheim I can understand.Back then,they showed the big movie 1st,then the 2nd movie,then they showed the 1st movie again,so you could arrive later to watch the 2nd movie 1st,then watch the main movie 2nd.For late nighters if you could stay up.

    I saw "Planet of the Apes" in 1968 at a drive in theater..and it was next to a corn field!!! It scared the ( bleep) out of me when the apes were hunting the humans!!! And the close up of that ape on the horse with that rifle...classic!!!!!

      I had the same frightening experience seeing "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" at the drive-in. We wore our pj's and brough our pillows with us.

    We kids wore PJs to the drive-in so we'd be ready for bed after the show.

      2960s- We owned a station wagon so we would put our pajamas on, unzip and lay our sleeping bags down in layers for cushioning and our mom would make a big brown paper bag of popcorn, we would take bowls, and napkins plus Kool-Aid to drink. Many times we fell asleep before the second movie but it was very exciting for us four kids.

    I still remember seeing Cheech and Chongs "up in smoke" as the second feature. Dad laughed so hard i thuoght i was going to lose him. Mom and little sis fell asleep in the back seat, probably for the best. I must have been 13. Good family times.

    I've only started to go to Drive-ins last year and honestly it's now my favorite way to see a movie ... I did go to a pop up one as well ( which was fine ) but I like the real ones much better and would rather support them .

    The State Line Drive-In in Elizabethton, Tennessee has been operating for over 50 years. This summer they have shown Smokey and the Bandit, Grease, Days of Thunder, Jaws, and a lot of other old films. Concerts, too. Just wanted to give them a shout out. To all you doubters out there in Comment Land, don't knock it til you try it!

    I grew up going 2 the drive-ins as a child. 🎥 I ❤d it❗I wish they still had one in my area.

  • @andrewgrant2990
    @andrewgrant2990 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thank you for doing this! I never understood fully why drive-ins weren't more popular. As a parent you can take a child & they have more wiggle room & can be loud. The price is much better than box theaters as $10 adult near me gets you 2 or 3 shows & kids are cheaper. You have your own space & don't need to worry about others messing it up for you. I am so thrilled drive-ins whether veterans, like Bengie's (near me), or pop-ups are getting the love!

      I've been to Bengie's 3 times this summer alone! I live midway between them and the one in Stephens City, VA. Bengie's is the REAL DEAL!

    Rancho Drive In, Euclid Avenue San Diego, right by the 94 highway...was the 1st and last time I remember going to see a movie (4years old I think) station wagon, Mom, Dad and 3 other siblings...Jungle Book was the movie and the most I can remember is the cartoons for the characters for the snacks...☺ but I do remember moving around our big station wagon my Dad in the driver seat, getting the speaker to sit on the window and getting turning on the sound! I was so happy! It was magical...💖
    I think it is the best place to go see a movie with small children, when I was little there was a small play ground with swings and children can just be themselves and parents can start teaching them to watch the movie and settle down little by little...

    We still have our drive in theater in Lakeport, California. It does well but closed in the winter cause it is next to Clearlake, and floods. Used the drive in as a drive thru covid shot for the community and it did great.

    The first film I remember seeing at a drive-in was the Richard Pryor movie “Greased Lightning”. Other notable films I can remember seeing at a drive-in are E.T., Porkys II, and American Werewolf in London. Last year was the first time since the 1980s what I went to a drive-in. There’s a drive-in in Lake Elmo, MN that I saw the live action “Lion King” movie on. Good stuff.

    I've been doing the Drive-In since I have found they had one 60 miles from my house. Nothing new to me. As a lover of film, I try to catch a movie any way, any chance I can. I hope people learn to appreciate this medium as we are so quick to dismiss things. If you haven't been to a REAL Drive-In, give it a try. I appreciate the urban areas trying their best to create spaces for people to be outside, relaxing, and taking in a movie.
