  • Head to www.squarespace.com/nostalgia... to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code NOSTALGIANERD.... Last month, I had the opportunity to purchase a car from 1990, a Renault 19 TSE. It's a car model that has a lot of nostalgia for me, and indeed I've been was fascinated by them since the 80s. So it seemed the perfect opportunity to make a video about it. Little did I know that it would turn out to be almost an hour long.
This isn't just on a whim. I've been hankering to make a car video for ages, and now it's complete, I'm pleased I've done it. I have no idea how well it's going to go down with my subscriber base, but that's not the point. This was a labour of love, and I really enjoyed making it. It was nice to delve into something that isn't computers for a change. It was also nice to get outside and do some "proper" filming.
Anyway, even if it's not your thing, I hope you at least get something from it. Normal service to resume from the next video.
With thanks to my daughter for her excellent drone piloting skills.

This video took a tonne of time and effort, so I hope you enjoyed it. If you want more car content I suggest checking out Big Car (nnerd.es/BigCar). Also, I don't usually ask this, but if you happen to enjoy my content please consider subscribing and clicking the bell icon. The ‘not showing up’ is because even fully notified subs are being curated by YT now. Sometimes it’s just a delay in notification but it’s getting more common that the video doesn’t even show up in your subs tab! I frequently (every couple of minutes) refresh my subs tab when on TH-cam and I still suffer this issue. Platform seems irrelevant as for me it applies on PC, iPad and android. Kudos for the correct spelling of tonne and balls to TH-cams algorithm.

Honestly, both are technical and mechanical creations. They are the same consept, a solution for problem, but for two different purposes.
I find myself watching old two-stroke diesel generators and vintage equipment restorations way too often just because it is fascinating how people overcame problems before the current solutions came to be. A solution to problem, using the knowledge of it's time.

Ahh, so nice to see the Renault 19 given some love! My old 19 TS was the first car I ever bought with my own money. It had 60,000 miles on it when I got it, and I then drove it another 100,000 miles, all over the UK, from Cornwall to Scotland. I taught two of my friends to drive in it, and it helped me move house five times. It carried everything from mattresses to surfboards. In all that time, the only thing that ever went wrong was a broken fan belt. Sadly, eventually it was consumed by rust, otherwise I'm sure it would still be running today.

My first car was a 1991 Renault 19 GTR, 1.4l 58HP. I bought it when it was 8 years old and drove it for 5 years and I still regret having sold it. Loved the brownish-grey interior with the amber lighting of the dashboard. It was rugged, reliable, very fuel efficient and I always felt safe driving it. Au revoir, mon ami!

i've got my drivers' licence when i was 18, about one and a half year ago. i didn't exactly knew what i wanted as a car but i saw my neighbour driving one to go to his farm and he kept telling me how good it was. finally, i said i wanted one. a 4-door bordeaux red. that same neighbour found one just a hundred meters from his house, he just knocked at the door, and asked how much the guy would ask to sell his 19 (albeit it was supposed to be on sale at first). he told €1,200 and he called me to come and see it. immediately bought it. that one is in a clinical condition : it recently celebrated its 30th birthday but everything looks like my car has been produced a few years ago only! it had only made 110k km (or 68k miles) in 30 years. 1.4e motor, RL model. love it. gonna keep it for the rest of its life.

My father had one Renault 5 (which I don't remember), One 18 (the first car I've ever remembered), not one but two Renault 21 (GTS and GTX), and his last car a Renault 21 Nevada TXE (a pioneer at its time with a digital speedometer and futuristic dashboard). During my childhood, cars and Renault were synonyms. This has been a nostalgic video without a doubt.

Thanks for this lovely trip down memory lane. I also learned to drive in a Renault 19 that my Dad and I owned together. I thought I’d take a quick gander at eBay to see if I could acquire one again. There used to be so many for sale, but now just one at four and half grand! Wish I’d kept my old one now.

There's a connection between viewers who like old cars and those who like other old technology. So you are sure to get plenty of new subscribers from this, even if it feels off-topic to do.
(My channel is about old audio/video technology, but when I featured my Hillman Avenger as a New Year special, it earned a good number of subscribers.)
Very well done, slick and painstakingly produced. The effort really shows. It was interesting to someone who has never taken any notice of Renault cars before.

As a fellow nerd of both Computers, Gaming and tech just as much as Engineering, Cars and Bikes this video on your channel was an absolute treat. Definitely restore it, and please give us updates of its progress! 🙂 I hope that it gives you many years of enjoyable service, and I suspect a lot of your followers will be interested in seeing how your ownership experience goes! 🙂
When I was a child, my parents also had a Renault 19, a white 1.7 TXE, G458 XMH, so I too have a slight soft spot for the model, and find it sad how rare they've become. My parents have had 4 Renaults: an 11, the aforementioned 19, a 2001 Clio, and most recently, a 2009 Clio. I much, much prefer the older Renault models to the current 1s.

Loved the video. A car from my childhood too. When my parents sold the house, back in our home town here in Argentina in 1996, the buyers gave us a '94 Renault 19 RT 1.7 in dark grey as part of the payment. I always wanted us to have a car, so I enjoyed it very much... Although it didn't last much as a few years later my sister had an accident with it, she was ok but we never could fix the car and had to sell it for scraps. I now own a '93 Honda Civic LX but I still have the faint urge of getting another 19, a 16 valve if possible. Cheers!

My dad owned a used dark blue 19 TD phase 2 (facelift) in the early 2000s It was a mighty machine, and we'd roadtrip it often to York, Scarborough and Filey. Im not condoning speeding on public roads, but my dad was known to open it up a bit on the motorway, it was surprisingly quick.
I also remember that a small plastic tab connected the interior lightswitch broke off of the inside of the boot. My dad blu tacked a small piece of lego where the plastic tab would go and it fixed the problem. Genius.
I have some fond memories of that car. Shame most of them have been scrapped.

My first Renault bought in the late '80s, not long after I got married - I loved it. The 19 was my favourite, followed by a Megane (good), a Clio (okay - till the electrics went haywire) and then a Modus (junk). Never bought Renault since. Your video brought back a few good memories, thank you.

@@rdoetjes There were actually loads more manufacturers and models available. The last eastern car we had was a Dacia, and the Dacia dealership suddenly got all those Renaults... made sense, since both companies were linked for decades. But yes, it was a good step up, very reliable, very comfortable, and drove well into the 2000s until someone ran a red light and crashed into it :(

I have big love for these cars, and have driven in a lot of Renault 9's and 12's (they're still very widely used in Turkey) I will similarly to this car about VW polos mk2 - SO MANY OPTIONS IN THOSE MANUALS! Love it - thanks for the entertainment!

MY 2nd car was a 19 16v, in 1997 I think it was. When it went boy did it go, but it almost bankrupted me keeping it going. Not sure if it was just mine or if they were all like this, but when it rained and you were driving fast water would get through the bonnet scoop and drop onto the engine block. From there it would run into the deep centrally mounted spark plug chambers. Eventually this would cause electrical problems if you didn't spot it. I didn't spot the problem and it dumped so much unburned fuel into the exhaust that it gathered in the cat and set alight. I'll never forget pulling over and looking under the car to see the (very expensive) cat glowing red under the car. So for me personally the 19 offers a bitter sweet memory from my youth. I've never owned a Renault since. Great look at the 19, lots of hard work here! Top job.
