I agree. I'm French, and i think that British food is a lot better than what it is usually said. Beef Wellington, pies, hotpots, crumbles, triffles... of course fish and chips. Problem is the British themselves seem not to care much. And it is very difficult to find a traditional british restaurant in Great Britain.

Spot on! This is exactly my point! It is such a shame because certain dishes if properly made are incredible!

My wife is French so we often have friends from France visit us in the UK. As a foodie I always enjoy shocking them all that British food can be good, especially some of our cheeses.

@@andyh7777 Yeah, i like to eat a good Cheddar (a real one, not in slices), a Stilton, a Red Leicester or a Wensleydale, a Cheshire or a Double Gloucester. But all these are quite hard to find.
But let's be honest, nothing compares to french cheeses 😁

@@andyh7777 I 100% believe you! You really need to be a foodie and know what you're doing but the potential of British cuisine is real!

The problem with british food is a lot of it is based around pubs, and tourists dont know which pubs are known for food or not. Many pubs are chains owned by breweries and even some of the prettiest, rustic pubs will still be the same frozen menu that pub chain serves in all their pubs. Its the equivalent of tourist trap restaurants when you go to a city like Rome. I knew some americans who said they didnt rate the pub food they had when visiting and turns out they went to three different whetherspoons without realising

@@andyh7777 yes this is exactly what I've been experiencing by living here for the past 6 years and working in a pub! They get microwaved stuff and it is such a shame! Let's talk about Sunday roast for example.. 9 out of 10 is dry and flavourless.. But when you find the right place it is incredible! It's really hard to find the right place.

It's not pubs where you'll get the best food. It's round your mum's or nan's house. That's the issue. It's not stuff you'll ever find in a pub. Even the best pubs have abysmal portion sizes in an attempt to market to people who go to high class restaraunts. The best British food is wholesome and hearty working class meals you'll only find from your mother's oven.

Travelling around the world, British food is just, well food. Nothing special, definitely not cheap. Head on to Asia, south America..etc. you want your food made fresh be it from traditional cuisines or even street food/hawkers. Mercados in France/Spain, Balkan fare...etc

Why do people think they know British food because they went to London. Our capital is the least British place on the whole island...
