May I add, get a Jerry can with some diesel in, put new filter into a bowl full of diesel to give it a good soak, after putting new filter into car fill the filter up, then do self priming, reason the zafira b uses a pressure controlled fuel system and if you don't take these measures you can find air pockets in system which will cause surging, idling problems, stalling, no starting, these problems will persist until filter is changed again properly next time, put remaining diesel into tank
Just did this today and seeing the comments about it needing bleeding and all that gave me loads of anxiety lol ive taken the car out, all seems ok, idling fine, will see when taking it out for a longer drive tomorrow! the only thing is theres a strong smell of diesel blasting through the cabin air vents but i suspect this is due to some diesel dripped down behind the pump and around it and its landed close to where the air comes in. at least i hope thats what it is. there are no leaks or anything 🤞
just to follow up. all is fine! the zafira b has an electric primer pump my mechanic said and all is well with it. driven around 500 miles since as well.

Only issue with doing it this way (not removing housing) is that you haven't drained the water out, you can do that with the drain valve on underside of housing but often easier to remove housing.
it doesnt need doing yearly if ever I've got astra h 1.3 cdti with over 100k on the clock. I have never touched the fuel filter i just change the oil filter and oil every year
I know this is old post but changing fuel filter takes strain off the high pressure pump as it has to pull harder to get same level of fuel due to filter becoming blocked, this can cause premature fuel pump failure

@@si4632 after further investigation it turned out to be my starter motor it was proper goosed. I don't even know how it managed to start it on the odd occasion. There was sparks flying out the back of it and when I got it off the bolts on the top of it had snapped. 😮 thanks for reply though 👍

Do not forget put fuel again in filter :D

It's replacing the fuel filter that cleans dirt out of your fuel. Needs doing annually as the filter gets dirty over time.

Is the filter any different to change on the 2008 model 1.9 cdti? I've bought a new filter with seal, old one is leaking fuel.

unlikey more than likely a glow plug issue only one needs to be faulty for it to struggle to start when cold
