    I’ll certainly not forget your furry buddy’s name. My wife and I once rescued two elderly ladies whose Austin America’s radiator head tank had melted. We stuffed Zeta and Ernestine in our Austin Healey 3000 Mk III with us. Zeta was about 6’ tall and it was a cozy ride taking them home to get their other car. Your Zeta (sp?) is really growing! What a beautify lady!

      That's a cool story. I named her Zeda. It means cop car in some language I guess, hahahaha. I just looked up names for dogs and there was a list from 2017 or so and zeta came up. Sounded neat, I think it is some letter or number in the greek alphabet as well. But then I started calling her it, and enunciating the "T" was too difficult, so I just switched it to a D.

    I know the feeling of wanting to push further, but realizing the next 10 yards could cost a lot of time and money. I bet a tow service would charge a pretty penny to come all the way out there. Utah looks so beautiful, one day I'll make it out there.

      This was actually not that far from moab. About 40 minutes at the most I'd say. But yeah, it would probably be 200-300 I'm guessing. Going up that wash was pretty unnerving. I felt like I was going to sink at any moment. But surprisingly, the surface was pretty hard despite looking like it was comprised of soft sand.

    You’re a brave man! Great video but I got so nervous at times. Hope to have a Northern Lite one day myself. I’m still in the process of educating myself about trucks and truck campers, so I was wondering if you ever use chains in the snow or is the 4 wheel drive enough? Thanks, and safe travels and heaps of adventures in 2022!

    • @downbytheriver501
      @downbytheriver501  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never used chains on this rig. The 4x4 works okay, but I experience axle wrap if I find myself in deep snow/mud, so I try to avoid putting myself into those situations. Probably should get a set of chains, though, to get out of tricky situations I may find myself in.

    • @downbytheriver501

      Yep, definitely. These 1 ton and larger trucks need to have at least a couple thousand lbs in the back or else they ride like they have wood blocks for suspension. And definitely yes in regards to if this rig sinks and gets stuck. Makes it a total nightmare for anything to get it out.

    Anyone that adventures solo knows that feeling when you’re like geez, I’m wayyyy out here... alone...maybe getting snowed in or way stuck would be a real bummer lol. I’m curious if you ever think a dually with some aggressive rubber might handle the trails better...even despite maybe not fitting the narrow trail very well. Particularly off camber...? I’m getting pretty close on pulling the trigger on a NLite and was debating trading my 3500 S/B SRW in for the big dog dually. I’m guessing you’ll have a opinion based on actual experience hahaha...and diggin your co-pilot there.

    • @downbytheriver501
      @downbytheriver501  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as off-roading goes, I’ve been told that duallies are not as good on the sketchy stuff. But a guy I know, trail mater(TH-cam channel), has a dually tow truck and takes that thing through some really crazy stuff. So I guess I don’t know what to think in regards to that. I would say that taking a 5500 and super singling it with some 41” MPTs or similar would be vastly superior to both a dually and my setup, however. Also, with the S/B, your departure angle will be much worse….although the jacks are what are the biggest concern off-roading and I think those hang down the same distance on the 8-11 as the 9-6.
      So I’m conclusion, I’d say yep. Upgrade to the dually. The extra safety you get from them is worth the minor inconveniences you may experience occasionally. Cheers!

      @@downbytheriver501 People think a dually would get twice the traction. The fact is, they get about half the traction. Weight helps with anything, to a point. I agree the 5500 with the super singles would be the cat's ass. Flatbed, front winch, and lots of tool boxes filled with all manner of salvation. 5500 works for me!

    Honestly enjoyed watching your video over LTVL lol.

    • @downbytheriver501
      @downbytheriver501  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? Why? I think personally the only thing I dont like about his movies is they're very long. That being said, if I could figure out how to get my videos to go past the 15 minute mark, I would. TH-cam doesn't allow me to go past that for some reason because I'm "not verified" even though I did everything they asked me to do to become verified.

    • @JoleyTube
      @JoleyTube 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I perfer watching people like vancity vanlife. It's just more personal. The LTVL cinematic shots are cool and all but I like when people do commentary more than cinematics. And have more carisma. Man i cant wait till I get my van so I can do this stuff!

    • @downbytheriver501
      @downbytheriver501  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JoleyTube oh well thanks buddy I appreciate that. Always nice to hear feedback. I love doing cinematic shots. but frankly, it just takes so long and usually I'm far too busy in life to really dive into the art if it.
      The vanlife/fulltiming thing is really fun. Though It certainly isnt as easy or glamorized as often perceived in videos like mine or others. There are a lot if sacrifices involved and if you have the right mindset and personality for them, it is a great experience.
      Growing a channel has proven to be incredibly difficult, I've found. I think part if it's because I'm a guy and the "market" is saturated. Another issue is I'm no looker, lol. Handsome fellas like mav have a clear advantage in that department. Other factors are my videos arent that interesting to a lot of people, I dont have a van(this one is surprising to me personally), my inconsistency with dropping videos, along with many, many other issues.
      I think if I would have started this channel a year earlier during the pandemic when many people were trapped in their houses, I probably would have been massive by now as well.
      Lastly, even though i make it sound like i really, really care about growing my channel and getting more followers, that's not really my intention. My real intention is I like meeting fellow youtubers. I like to learn how they live their life, break bread, BS, how they make their videos, absorb knowledge, etc.... And, understandably, many of the youtubers I follow and want to meet such as Talon Sei, LTVL, Mav, etc. probably don't want to risk their own personal safety with some random weirdo off the internets, Hahaha. So that's the only reason why I care to grow my channel, really. Well, I mean a couple sponsors would be nice too to help offset how expensive producing these videos and the maintenance required on my vehicle would be nice as well.
      Anyways, I'm rambling because I really dont want to go to work.
      Cheers buddy and let me know when you start your channel, I'll be your first sub!
